It’s Prime Time at the CZCC! USDA Prime Steaks are the most tender, juiciest and flavorful steaks you’ve ever tried. Depending on where you shop, your grocery store may not carry the top prime designation; rather, it tends to be purchased by high-end restaurants and hotels. Camp Zama Community Club now offers these special cuts for our community. For year 2021, come stop by the CZCC, we invite you to treat yourself and your special someone to the best steaks in mainland Japan!

The word “prime” is a quality grade assigned by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to describe the highest quality beef and other meats. Currently, less than 2% of all beef produced in the United States earn this top prime designation.

It’s a New Year, let’s have some fun! Help us hunt down “New Year Oxes” (similar to image on left), throughout the pages of this month’s Bugle. The first two correct answers will each win one USDA Prime Steak Meal of your choice from our new CZCC Dinner Menu. Keep an eye out for the Camp Zama MWR Facebook contest announcement on January 1st! Oh by the way, the first ox image on this page doesn’t count, Good Luck!

EVER BEEN TO KURE HARBOR? KURE RECREATION CENTER

During WWII, the Kure Naval District was Japan’s single largest naval base and arsenal, housing most of the city’s industry and workforce employed in the service of naval installations, munitions factories and other support functions. It is this strategic significance that drew a heavy and sustained Allied bombardment culminating in the Bombing of Kure in June and July 1945. Today, Kure continues to be a major maritime center hosting the dockyards of numerous shore based facilities of the JMSDF, gaining fame as a tourism center featuring artifacts and mementos from the JMSDF museum of naval history. Come and visit Kure Recreation Center and immerse yourself in the beauty and history of Kure Harbor. Our facilities offer dining & bar services, a package store, gym, commissary, clean and convenient lodging at affordable rates.

Tips to Get Motivated to Go to the Gym It’s a brand new year and starting the year usually comes with new resolutions of getting into the best shape of your life. For most, getting to the gym is half the battle; and if you’re one of those who feel like dragging your feet for a workout, here’s a couple of tips that might help: • Ease your way back into it ~ Return to your workout program in a progressive manner. Doing so will ensure you avoid injury and increase your likelihood of sticking with it long-term. When your body starts to improve, you can now increase your level of activity. Flexibility and cardio-based workouts are a good step towards getting back into the gym. • Set yourself a goal ~ Just getting there and showing up at the gym is a good start, but showing up knowing what you hope to accomplish is even better. Set a goal. Make sure that it’s measurable, realistic, and resultoriented. Goal-setting can translate into motivation and might be the strategy you need to get back to the gym. • Go to the gym with a friend ~ Going to the gym with a friend, or meeting a friend at the gym is a good way to get yourself back into the swing of things. There’s research supporting the notion that when you’re working out in groups or with others, it increases exercise adherence. Working out with a crowd or friends, carries many benefits that include enhancing consistency, duration, motivation, conversation, and inspiration. • Join a fitness class ~ Find a class you’re interested in, and go! From spin to Zumba to boot camp, there’s something for everyone. Group fitness classes are a fun, high energy way to workout in an hour or less. Attending a group fitness class is a good way to get yourself back to the gym, and the motivation from instructors and fellow participants may be enough to get you back into your routine altogether. Group fitness classes are offered on a regular basis at a variety of times, so it’s likely that you can find at least one or two that’ll work with your schedule, and when you do, you might just find yourself back in the gym regularly.
