Kamikochi Hiking Kamikochi is surrounded by the Japan Alps and is considered one of the most beautiful scenic areas in Japan. We are going to take you to a place that is hard to visit on your own due to the conservation of its nature (private car regulation). Do not miss this opportunity to see Japan’s beautiful nature! Starting our hike at Taishoike Pond, we will walk slowly on the promenade along Azusa River, where you can see many Alpine plants, Kappabashi Bridge, and a mystery pond. Hot springs (birthday-suit style) are available in the area.

To the class of 2018, As I think about the graduating class of 2018, I realize that you have some life behind you and so much more of it ahead. You know some things about yourself, and you have a surprising amount to discover about who you are and what you want. As a class, you have relationships of varying lengths and times. You have social commitments and responsibilities. You have great freedom to make choices. You have the joy of shared laughter and the sorrow of separation. You have the longing to be accepted and the need for some alone time. And like those who came before, you have from this captured moment on to shape your life. It will not always be easy, but if you open yourself to healthy risk-taking, selfless acts, kindness and love, you will find the path you hope for. And if you are also humble about your successes and honest about your need to improve, then you will have the life you want. I wish you all the very best. Please take care. Making the Most of Japan

Written by Samantha Lymburn-Law My stay in Japan has gone by so quickly, and I cannot believe that it is soon coming to end. If I had to sum up our tour here in three words, it would be enjoyable, productive and enlightening. During our stay, my husband and I were able to learn more about Japan’s culture, and at the same time had the opportunity to visit other countries. We completely fell in love with the Japanese culture. From the delicious food to the polite and considerate people, it’s no wonder why so many people want to stay or extend their time here. I wanted to write an article explaining some of the things I wish I knew when we first moved to Camp Zama. I hope this information will help others also enjoy their time here in the Land of the Rising Sun.

MWR (Morale, Welfare and Recreation) Trips – MWR trips were able to help us see places that we would have never gone to by ourselves. The great thing about these trips are you basically get on the bus and go. Having to drive or getting lost won’t be a concern. The tour guides and bus drivers always took great care of us. If you are nervous about traveling in a foreign country, then MWR trips are the way to go! ITT (International Tours) Office – We’ve utilized the ITT office for several of our traveling excursions.

Having them plan our itineraries has helped lessen the stress of traveling, making our trips more enjoyable. From the flights, hotels, activities and transportation, ITT covers it all. We’ve had nothing but great experiences from them and highly recommend turning to ITT for traveling assistance.

Make Friends with Locals – Making friends with locals gives you a better understanding of the area. Because of my friend (Mai Mai), I was able to appreciate the food and culture, making our tour in Japan more enjoyable.

7 Eleven/Lawsons/Family Mart – I quickly became a fan of convenience stores when I discovered the great

quality of food they had at such affordable prices. If you are looking for a tasty and affordable meal, convenience stores are the way to go.

Getting the right information – I’ve learned that there are differences between being stationed stateside and

being stationed overseas. This can cause confusion and uncertainty when dealing with information that can affect the service member and their family. The best way to avoid any misunderstanding is getting information from the right people. For example, going directly to Finance, Housing Office or MPD (Military Personnel Division) for questions in regards to your tour overseas. Asking questions earlier could potentially save time, money and headaches down the road. Having the opportunity to be stationed in such a beautiful country has made me appreciate the military lifestyle more. Living far away from home can be challenging, but I am grateful that my husband and I were given the chance to live in Japan. This experience has pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped me grow and improve as a person. My advice for people who are stationed overseas is to enjoy your time here. Embrace the culture, travel, and try as much of the food as you can. The military is paying you to be here, so why not make the most of it? https://zama.armymwr.com 24

We then return the license plates, base decal paperwork and guarantee you’ll receive all Yen from the junk yard handed to the Auto Skills Center employee. Unfortunately we do not go to LTO for you, sorry. *Please Note: The Yen received from the junkyard is determined by the cost of steel at that time, therefore we cannot advertise a figure.

Camp Zama Child & Youth Services (CYS) just completed their annual Army Higher Headquarter Inspection (AHHI). CYS scored an amazing 99% during the unannounced inspection which reviews compliance in several areas such as; fire and safety, health and sanitation, nutrition, personnel management and program oversight. This achievement would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of the CYS staff and management team. The entire USAG Japan community would like to say thank you for your efforts in making Camp Zama’s CYS one of the best Child & Youth Programs in the Army.
