October Tour Highlights Get out & see Japan!
Parcabout
Parcabout is a new type of activity that just opened in July. There are only three in Europe and it is the first one in Asia, so it will probably be a first time experience for most people. This marvelous maze activity originated from a small island in France, where fishermen would put fish nets in the trees for fun, run, jump and play soccer/ volleyball/badminton on the nets. Sliders made by nets are also set on the huge facility. Enjoy two hours on the family friendly playground in the air!
Mt. Fuji Ochudo Hiking Did you miss an opportunity to climb Mt. Fuji this summer or were too apprehensive to challenge the mountain? No worry! Join us for hiking on the Ochudo Trail on Mt. Fuji. Ochudo used to be the holy trail circle around 5th stations, only allowed for people who had climbed Mt. Fuji more than three times. Now it is open for everyone. We will hike from the Subaru line 5th station through Oniwa area to Osawa downfall, which still collapses 275 tons of mountain surface every day. After Osawa downfall, we will head back into Oniwa area for a beautiful hidden spot called Okuniwa. Enjoy viewing KOYO (leaves turning red, yellow & orange) and tasty autumn foods at the mountain hut.
Jindai Botanical Garden & Jindaiji Temple Area Stroll Jindai Botanical Garden is located in Tokyo. They offer indoor and outdoor gardens where you can enjoy colors and scents from different types of flowers. Afterwards, we will visit the Jindaiji Temple area. Enjoy strolling a short path which leads to the temple where you’ll find souvenirs, confections (skewered rice cake, soy sauce flavored rice crackers, etc.) as well as delicious soba (buckwheat noodles) restaurants.
Shinjuku & Shin-Okubo TABEARUKI Let’s walk around Shin-Okubo to enjoy “Tabearuki”, munching delicious local foods while strolling. We’ll first start walking from Shinjuku station, the entrance to one of the most exciting cities in Japan. Then, we’ll stop by the Ninja house to have a Ninja experience such as throwing Ninja stars, sword handling and looking for the tricks of the Ninja house. After, we’ll head to Shin-Okubo for Tabearuki, also known as Korean Town. This is where you’ll find Korean foods, snacks, sweets, affordable cosmetics, general goods and Korean aesthetics.

Candidates!
Race Origin
The race was introduced in 1985 by fitness officials from the Army Headquarters Staff in the Pentagon. It continued to grow and is currently the 2nd largest ten-miler race in the United States, hosting as much as 30,000 runners from all over the world. The Army TenMiler is sponsored by the U.S. Army Military District of Washington and is held every October in Arlington, VA and Washington, DC.
Your Family & MWR Supporting Our Soldiers Each year, Camp Zama and Okinawa, Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation, conducts qualifying runs to determine which eight Soldiers will make up the U.S. Army, Japan Team competing in the Active Duty-Mixed Division. Family & MWR provides funding for running uniforms, transportation and lodging; sending eight Soldiers on a 5-day TDY to Washington, DC to compete against other Army installation teams. While on TDY, runners are lodged at the Crystal Gateway Marriott and attend a Race Expo at the DC Armory before competing against more than 500 teams in 18 divisions.

EVER BEEN TO KURE HARBOR? Camp Kure (Akizuki) Recreation/Lodging
During WWII, the Kure Naval District was Japan’s single largest naval base and arsenal, housing most of the city’s industry and workforce employed in the service of naval installations, munitions factories and other support functions. It is this strategic significance that drew a heavy and sustained Allied bombardment culminating in the Bombing of Kure in June and July 1945. Today, Kure continues to be a major maritime center hosting the dockyards of numerous shore based facilities of the JMSDF, gaining fame as a tourism center featuring artifacts and mementos from the JMSDF museum of naval history. Come and visit Camp Kure and immerse yourself in the beauty and history of Kure Harbor. Our facilities offer dining & bar services, a package store, gym, commissary, clean and convenient lodging at affordable rates. September 1941
