After my recent visit to the PGA Education center, we focused on something called transfer practice and I had an Aha moment and realized that good and bad habits refer to practice routines and not technique. For example, look at all the different swings, grips, stances, swing planes, etc on tour today and yet they all play and score well, so what is it that pros do well? They all have efficient practice habits. 1) Practice with a plan ~ Practice putting from your avg first distance putt and 3 footers vs simply dropping balls on the green randomly. Decide before going to the range how many balls you want to hit per club and what types of shots you plan to practice and write it all down. Keep stats so you have feedback to help you modify your practice routine, etc. 2) Change clubs after each shot on the range ~ The only time you hit the same club twice in a row is when you hit a ball out of bounds, otherwise, you are constantly switching clubs between shots on the course, so don’t hit a whole basket with one club on the range, because you can’t find that groove on the course. Instead, hit a shot, walk to your car, sit down, get out the car and then hit your next shot. Now this would be a good habit, because it simulates what you do on the course and actually following this advice is a good habit! 3) Master your pre-shot routine ~ All great players have a thorough pre-shot routine and commit to it every single time they swing. This includes visualization, checking ball position, alignment, grip, practice swings, rhythm, balance, and a lot more. Every shot counts and every swing matters and that is why having a routine that covers all the basics is essential. 4) After-shot routine ~ After every shot, hold your finish, check your balance, tension levels and analyze the result of your ball flight. This is the best time to analyze your result and address any issues that may need to be corrected. From far away, I can guess people’s handicaps based on their body language after they hit a shot, if nothing else, at least try to look good on the course. 5) Know your carry distance ~ A lot of shots are squandered by selecting a club based on total distance, but in order to stay clear of hazards you need to know and play to your carry distance. 6) Consistent rhythm ~ Ever felt like swing hard with a driver after a bad hole, hoping that if it goes far, you might make a birdie and catch up? This is a bad habit. Play golf one shot a time, give every swing the same concentration and dedication and commit to your plan to swing easy, every single time. The consistency in this area will improve your ball striking immediately. 7) Know who you are! ~ Perhaps the most important good habit of all is to understand that your personality is not tied to your golf game, meaning that if you had a bad score you are a bad person and if you had a good round, well then you’re a good person, this is utter nonsense. For the sake of everyone around you, please understand that golf is a game, a hobby for the majority of the people and that the worst day on the course beats the best day in the office, so keep your expectations in check and enjoy the challenge and the few memorable shots per round and accept that as long as you can say you gave every shot your best effort, that whatever the result may be, it is the best you could do on that day and you should be proud of it. 8) Bonus habit ~ Take regular lessons and focus on your areas of weakness. Most of the top golfers all have coaches to learn from and not all lessons involve major swing changes, as a matter of fact, I have now helped several people lower their scores by 10 shots simply by changing their pre-shot routine and practice plan, with minimal technical changes, because that was what was holding them back and making them frustrated. Remember, practicing good habits leads to good results!

Gridiron Challenge, 2015

The MWR Commercial Sponsorship & The Camp Zama Community Club Staff would like to thank our sponsors for supporting this major event for our community.

Sponsorship does not imply endorsement by the U.S. Government.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS The “Gridiron Challenge” is a Camp Zama Community Club program. A very high percentage of the military community is “football-oriented” and this challenge will provide football fans the opportunity to show their knowledge of the game by picking the weekly game winners. There is no cost to play the “Gridiron Challenge”. There are five parts to the Challenge-- here is some information you should know. 1. 17 WEEKS – REGULAR SEASON For 17 weeks, from 8 Sept to 29 Dec 2016, you can pick up an entry form at Football Frenzy held every Thursday from 1700-1900 in the Sports Bar showcasing the games scheduled for the forthcoming week. Entry forms must be turned in before 1900 to the staff at Football Frenzy. When you receive your first entry form you will receive information explaining the “tie-breaker”. Only one entry per week. Each week the person with the most wins will receive a prize. A photo will be taken of all winners and displayed in the CZCC. All weekly winners’ names (17) will be placed in a drawing and the winner will receive VIP seating and a steak breakfast for him / her and 9 friends at Zama’s Super Bowl Party on 06 February 2017. 2. CUMULATIVE PRIZE The total wins that each participant picks each week will be kept on file at the CZCC. This sheet will be available for all to view on the Gridiron Challenge Board. The Top 3 players with the most wins after week 17 will receive a prize of $300.00 (1st Place), $200.00 (2nd Place) and $100.00 (3rd Place). 3. PLAYOFF CONTEST There are two parts to the Play-off Contest. Play-Off Picks: On Week 14 pick the 12 teams that you think will make the playoffs. Once the playoff teams are determined the participant with the correct teams will win $100.00. There will be a tie-breaker for the Play-off Picks also. Play-Off Games: Once the playoff teams are determined you must pick which teams will win each

game. The format will be the same as during the regular season. Any wins from the regular season do not count in the playoff contest. The conference playoff games are the last games for the playoff challenge. The person with the most wins during the playoffs will receive a $100.00 prize. 4. “COLLEGE GAMES CHALLENGE” Each week we will select 20 games from the NCAA Football Schedule. Select the teams that you think will win and the person with the most wins during that week will receive a prize. The total wins that each participant picks each week will be kept on file at the CZCC. This sheet will be available for all to view on the Gridiron Challenge Board. The Top 2 players with the most wins at the end of the season will receive a prize of $200.00 (1st Place) and $100.00 (2nd Place). 5. “COLLEGE BOWL CHALLENGE” Once the Bowl bids are determined you will select which teams will win their respective Bowl Game. 24 College Bowl games will be included in this Challenge. The player who has the most wins after the National Championship Bowl game in January 2017 will receive a prize of $150.00. The National Championship Game will be the tie-breaker for this challenge. The winner will receive his / her prizes in the Sports Bar each Thursday at 1800 in conjunction with the “Football Frenzy”. Special evening door prizes will be given at the Frenzy and all in attendance are eligible. Sheets for the upcoming week must be turned in at this event also. All sheets for the next week must be received by 1900 to be eligible for the weekly prizes.

Here’s a Tip

If you ever have a whim to clean your windows all of a sudden and you don’t have an actual window cleaner, Oolong Tea works pretty good. For example, if you are a smoker, you know your windows will have the typical cigarette smoke residue which tends to cloud them up. The natural ingredients in Oolong Tea actually helps break down the tar for easy cleaning. You can buy a bottle of Oolong Tea at any convenience store. It doesn’t leave streaks and you can drink what you don’t use. CLEAN CAR HAPPY DRIVER

If there are more than one teams in the 9-15 divisions, youth must attend a skills assessment meeting. Each sport season will end with an End of the Season Party which includes food & drinks, and a participation award. Volunteer coaches and officials are always needed. Volunteers are the backbone of all YSF sports programs. All sport fees will be waived for the Head Coach. Assistant coaches receive one child free and subsequent children multiple discount. Anyone interested, please contact the Youth Sports Office, DSN 263-5437. Volunteers should register at ArmyOneSource to be a volunteer coach. This site is the official site for volunteers to keep hours of volunteer time.
