The City of Camrose Recreation and Culture department was thinking outside the box when they came up with a fun, free and exciting event remi niscent of the days of the drive-in movies to celebrate Alberta Family Day. On Saturday, Septem ber 3 the City will be host ing a “Movie Under the Stars” event on the grounds of the Camrose and Dis trict Centennial Muse um, featuring the Alberta filmed movie Ghostbusters: Afterlife Gates open at 7:30 p.m. and the movie will begin at 8:30 p.m.

The third chapter of the Ghostbusters saga has a huge connection to Alberta, with shooting beginning in Calgary in July 2019. Filming stops included Turner Valley, Drumhell er and Fort Macleod, and Ghostbusters features rec ognizable locales like the historic Lougheed House in Calgary, Horsethief Can yon, Turner Valley Gas Plant, downtown Drum heller, the Empress The atre in Fort Macleod and the Bleriot Ferry, which crosses the Red Deer River and links two sections of the North Dinosaur Trail. “We should all recog nize iconic Alberta loca tions which will add to the screening of the film. Hav ing everyone gather under the stars at the Centennial Museum will be a great way to wind up the summer and connect with family and friends before the busy fall season begins.”

City hosts a night ‘out’ at the movies

In reference to this ini tiative a spokesperson of the Alberta Government explained. “Since Alberta became a province on Sep tember 1, 1905, it has been defined by the innovation, bravery and community spirit of its people. Alberta Day is a chance to celebrate who we are as Albertans, and what we can achieve together. The City of Cam rose has been supported by the provincial government to host a fun, free, family friendly event.”

“We were thrilled to have been chosen as an Alberta municipal ity to host an Alberta Day Event,”remarked City of Camrose Recreation and Culture manager Tanya Pattullo. “We specifically chose Ghostbusters: After life for our movie choice as it was filmed in Alberta”

It is bound to be a night of excitement and old fash ioned“Befun.sure to come early to pick your perfect viewing spot and enjoy some food truck delights, some free popcorn and movie snacks and take a stroll through the Alberta Day Art Walk, as well” said Pattullo. Still fairly new to Cam rose, the couple inquired with a few friends about the feasibility of creating a community choir. “We started this group and called it a chamber choir with about 18 members. “Organizing a choir is a bit like putting together the pieces of a jigsaw puz zle–finding voices that will blend, with enough of one voice to balance with the others, and then choosing music that will be both fun and Inengaging.”addition to singing in English, the Choir some times sings in other lan guages, but always takes the time to break apart how the pronunciation works and how the song translates. “Most concerts have a theme, and songs are chosen that inspire and sometimes challenge us as singers and as people,” explained JoyAnne. “Rehearsing a song over and over again is a sure way to focus in on the concepts in the music, or the meaning of the text, or the impact of a famous song from history, or all three of theseThequalities.choircontinued to enjoy performing and on the 10th anniversary cel ebrated with an event that hosted an orchestra and guest choir.

By Lori Larsen The pandemic played havoc on so many wonder ful organizations and ac tivities that were enjoyed by all walks of life. Restric tions imposed to ensure ev eryone’s health and well be ing, saw the cancellation of many events including the complete shut down of any choir activity for an entire year and much of the sec ond.Unfortunately, despite the easing of restrictions, the impact was hard and choirs, including the Cam rose Camerata, are having to pick up the pieces and startTheanew.Camrose Camer ata, a chamber choir that has been based in Camrose since 2003, has been an incredible outlet for many residents of Camrose. For those wishing to come to gether with like-minded people who share a passion for song and a willingness to share their talents for the enjoyment of others, the Camrose Camerata is an important part of their lives.“Over the years, the choir has ranged in size from 18 to 24 members,” said choir director JoyAnne Murphy, adding that the choir sings a wide range of music and arrangements. “We have done every thing from renaissance to contemporary and arrange ments of pop songs,” said Murphy. She added that in putting on local concerts the choir has worked with a wide range of vocal and instrumental soloists and groups, and choir members have been fortunate to par ticipate in a few competi tive festivals where they won acclaim for community groups of their size. “We hosted other choirs, presented orchestral/choral works, and worked with percussionists, local brass quintet Simply Brass, per cussionists, trumpet, oboe, cello and more. “We always look for ward to creating new mem ories each time a concert is in preparation, and will enjoy pulling out old favou rites and “greatest hits” when we have a chance.”

Upside Down Academy A preschool to kinder garten program for three to five year olds will be offered to build confidence, motor, academic and social skills as they explore through play. What sets Upside Down Academy apart is that half is in the classroom and half is a gymnastics lesson, de veloping physical abilities and gymnastics skills. “This is our second year. A lot of gymnastic clubs have a preschool program and our focus is learning through play,” said Gail Battle, an early learning and child care leader. She is also a Gymnastics Founda tions, active start trampo line Level 1 and 2 certified coach.

Gymnastics offers new building, education

“The students or parents come to me and ask if they can do it. Then we assess them if they can go to the competitive events. It is not an open thing, the students have to want to move to the competitive side.”

Gymnastics take sev eral years of practice to be come very good. Camrose will be hosting competitions this season on November 13 and January 22, 2023. “We will host a few small events. If we want to host a major event, we would move to the Camrose Regional Exhibition. We would need more space to include public and parents. In gymnastics we have Lev el 1 to 10. In this building we could host up to Level 5. The Challenge event in November will be low key, if students reach a certain level they receive a gold and so on. Later in the season in January, it is more competi tive where you have one gold medal and one silver etc.

The club has about 350 gymnasts, of which 45 com pete in competitions across the province.Theacademy has sev eral programs to cater to all age groups and levels. Facility owners and coaches Yves Hauglustaine and Nancy Luttrell lead the team of coaches in both Wetaskiwin and Camrose. “We have two locations. When we came back from Fort McMurray, we wanted to start our own business and coach the way we want ed to coach. This area need ed a program at the time so we started one. I worked in Wetaskiwin, so it was a good fit for the main location. We wanted to coach full time, so we added Camrose. Now that we have this beautiful new facility, Camrose will be our main location,” ex plained Yves. “I was a professional coach in Europe. After coaching since 2003 at four not for-profit clubs we de cided to start our own busi ness. We wanted to develop our vision of coaching, not someone else’s vision.”

This event will be for Level 1 and 2 gymnasts,” continued Yves. “We will stream the events so parents can watch it without being here.”

By Murray Green The Academy of Gym nastics Camrose will be celebrating the fall with its first full season in the brand new facility.

“When we open here, a city with a university, it is easier to find students to help coach. We wanted a new building with more space and a better location. Our goal is to coach full time in the sport we love,” said“WeYves.want to improve by about 15 per cent and reach 400 students. With a new building we want to expand to keep the building busy and pay for it.” Yves wants to have good development for children and youth on the recreation al side of gymnastics. “The number one goal is to have fun. With competitive gym nastics, we not only want to make it fun but we want to teach them to perform. Not just have one move, but to be able to do it better than anybody else,” shared Yves. “If I ask someone to do a handstand on the recreation side they do it, and they are proud of it, but it might not be perfect with a leg a little bent out of place. On the competitive side, I say okay you did it, but put your legs together or something to make it better.” He said gymnasts are never pushed to go from recreational to competitive.

Ways has had a year with the Taking Action program to engage with the community and discover the needs of our vulnerable, low-resourced seniors. We were unsure what to expect a year ago, with no community history in elder abuse case man agement. The 211 informa tion line provided us with only two reported cases over the prior year. Part nering with the AEAAC and the CCRs has given our program an opportu nity to network, train, and develop a standardized approach to case manage ment and standardized el der abuse data collection. We also work directly with local agencies, like Service Options for Seniors, the Camrose Mental Health Hub, Seniors Coalition, Camrose and District Sup port Services, the Rural Community Resource Cen tre and the Family Vio lence Response Council. Our community partners have quickly increased awareness about the pro gram and determine re sources needed to address elder abuse. The program has also discovered over the last year that mental health concerns and addic tions are the most signifi cant contributing factors to perpetrator abuse, so our mental health part ners have become essential to the program to connect the client to the right re sources.Kari, the older adult support worker and ad vocate, can unravel the complexities of emotional well-being and abuse with seniors and their families. She navigates systems, provides resources, and co ordinates food security and housing support services. She assesses risk and needs and provides information, support and client advocacy while as sisting them to achieve safety. She must use best practices, follow ethical guidelines, use a traumainformed lens and respect the clients’ uniqueness and right to self-determination while keeping in mind an individual’s right to be pro tected.Any senior can become a victim of elder abuse, regardless of gender, sex ual identity, race, ethnic ity, income or education. By Camrose Seniors Coalition Elder abuse is a seri ous issue—it’s estimated that nearly one in 10 Al berta seniors may be vic tims of some form of elder abuse. Earlier this sum mer, the government of Al berta launched a five-year strategy to prevent and address elder abuse. The strategy updates Alberta’s definition of elder abuse and includes goals and ac tions to make Alberta safer for seniors. It outlines five new approaches for recog nizing and responding to abuse. The five goals are: increasing awareness of elder abuse, improving service provider training, enhancing data collection and program inglaws/policiesstrengtheningdevelopment,protectiveandsupportcommunityresponses.

That final goal of sup porting community re sponses encompasses coordinated community responses (CCR’s). Across the province, there are over a dozen CCRs, one of which is located in Cam rose. Camrose is host to the Taking Action Against Elder Abuse project and is staffed by an older adult support worker and advo cate, Kari Cameron. Tak ing Action against Elder abuse is hosted through Changing Ways (formerly the Family Violence Ac tion Society: Camrose and District) with funds from the Alberta Elder Abuse Awareness Council (AEAAC), Camrose and District Support Services and the Battle River Com munity Foundation. To gether with her provincial counterparts, Kari has been working on the front lines to help our commu nity receive coordinated supports that prevent and respond to elder abuse, in cluding effective interven tionChangingresources.

SUPER NOVA Murray Green, Camrose Booster Rick Schiere doesn’t mind driving his 1972 Chevrolet Nova in the summer for errands. It has a 383 stroker engine and can go places in a short period of time. He improved the handling to make it comfortable around corners. I have a BMN ratchet shift er in it and the transmis sion has a stage three shift kit in it. You actually have to shift it, it won’t go down to first gear unless you shift it there,” explained Rick.

By Murray Green Rick (and Nicole) Schiere of Camrose own a 1972 Chevrolet Nova. “I purchased this car about a year and a half ago down in Lethbridge. I always wanted a Nova be cause it is my ideal classic car,” said Rick last fall. The Chevrolet Chevy II/Nova is a small automo bile manufactured by Chev rolet, and produced in five generations for the 1962 through 1979, and 1985 through 1988 model years. “When I was younger I went down to Washington to visit my cousin. He had a Nova SS with all of the options and was hopped up with everything. I decided I wanted one of those,” said Rick. The Chevy II name plate was dropped after 1968, with Nova becoming the nameplate for all of the 1969 through 1979 models. “I’ve put in a new transmission (350 turbo), rear differential (was 411 gears, now 307), steering box, new tires, everything else is pretty much the way I bought it. The car has a 383 stroker engine with a rocker-roller thumper cam with a 670 Holley (carbure tor) on it. The car has lots of power when you need it,” shared Rick.

Schiere brings back memories with Nova

FUN FACTS After 1971, other GM divisions began re-badging the Nova as their new entry-level vehicle, such as the Pontiac Ventura II (once a trim option for full-size Pontiacs to 1970), Oldsmobile Omega and the Buick Apollo. This was considered to build brand loyalty with respective GM divisions, although the company later fused their badge engineering with platform shar ing to cut expenditures. The initials of the four model names spelled out the acronym NOVA (Nova, Omega, Ventura, Apollo). The 1973 introduction of the Omega and Apollo coincided with the subsequent oil crisis. The 1972 Nova received only minor trim changes. The Rally package option with special suspension re turned and was a rather popular choice, with 33,319 sold. SuperSport equipment went on 12,309 coupes. Nova production moved to Norwood, Ohio, where it would be assembled alongside the Camaro. At midyear, a sunroof option called the Sky Roof became available on two-door models. Also, the optional Strato bucket seats available on coupes switched from the previous low-back design with adjustable headrests to the high back units with built-in headrests introduced the previous year on Camaros and Vegas. Despite the lack of change, Nova had its best sales season in years, with the production of the 1972 models.

“I really like the speed and how this car goes. I like the colour of the car as well.

“I really like the looks and thumbs up you get when I drive this car down the street or road,” added Rick.“I want to add tilt steer ing and a new gauge cluster into the car. I want to get rid of the big tachometer on the steering column. I want to put that all into the dash. It would be nice to have it a little more neat looking. Having a tach on the column is going back to the ‘70s. I want to get some thing modern that is nice looking in the dash, but still looks like the same time pe riod,” suggested Rick. “Eventually, I would like to paint the car silver with black stripes. The car was orange at one time, now it’s red. I can’t seem to match the colour, so I may go different and go with the silver. The aged paint is hard to match. I may mix a few colours together for now just to cover up some rock chips until I can paint it,” said Rick. The two-speed Pow erglide was still the only fully-automatic transmis sion available with most engines, as the more de sirable three-speed TurboHydramatic was only avail able with the largest V8 engines.“Iput a stabilizer and sway bar in the back end to make it handle way bet ter. Before when you went into corners you could feel it wander in the back end. Now with the stabilizer it is nice and straight around the corners.”

We want the new comers to get a sampling of rural Alberta hospitality,” addedArmenaOlson.Athletic Asso ciation chair, Ernie Lange explained the partnership between the organizations. “We wanted to cre ate an event that involves the community and bring people together in a social setting. The market has been going for more than 12 years. We also wanted to help Ukraine families who have come into this area. We want to help support them because they had to leave and didn’t bring a lot of things. They need help to restore their lives,” shared Ernie.“I feel we have been the lucky ones over the last three years, when you see what is happening around the world. Even local peo ple, young and the old, have been deprived of social in teraction. Now we have an opportunity to support peo ple from Ukraine,” added Ernie.“We have a community market and it was meant to be a way to get the people of the community to get to gether. This year we want to create awareness and support for the Camrose Refugee Centre. We have people that want to sup port it in some way. The money we raise or collect from donations will be go ing directly to the Refugee Centre,” added AAA vicechair, Clark Banack. “They will set up a booth and we will have some people from Ukraine at the market. Our goal is to have every one come out and enjoy the day.”

Live music entertainment, as well as children’s games and crafts will be planned. “Every Labour Day Monday (except during CO VID-19 restrictions), Ar mena has had a tradition of running a market where people can set up tables and sell locally made goods and food. It’s a very popu lar opportunity to social ize and support local small business. (I’m particularly fond of the homemade pies). Makes me think. All that my grandparents, par ents and my generation experienced in the 20th cen tury probably has no meaning for today’s public school and post-secondary students. This reminds me of an other Great Divide – those who have never experienced Life Before Digital and those of us who have had to adapt to Digital.

In loving memory of Joseph (Joe) Cramer 1931 ~ 2012 We thought of you today But that is nothing new We thought about you yesterday And days before that too We think of you in silence We often speak your name Now all we have are memories And a picture in a frame Your memory is our keepsake, With which we’ll never part God has you in his keeping, We have you in our hearts Always loved, never forgotten Forever missed by Paula and Family School Daze Back to school is in the air. That bittersweet mix— tinges of regret that sum mer is ending; excitement and maybe some appre hension as a new school year begins; maybe looking forward to seeing friends again; wondering what the teachers will be like… For many years, the rhythm of the school year was the rhythm of my life. There were of course the student years—Grades 1 to 12 and some university years after that. During the seven years I was a public school teacher, the rhythms of the school year dominated. A few years later, for a brief but intense time I experienced being a public school board trustee—quite a different rhythm.

The 50s and 60s were busy years. Harold farmed and worked as a carpenter. Together they raised the family. During this time Hazel also decorated wedding cakes, bred Siamese kittens, and was actively involved in a variety of community pursuits, as well as activities with the Camrose United Church (particularly those involving youth). Always a trailblazer, Hazel was the first woman member of the Camrose chapter of Toastmasters. Using her first initials to register (they were the same as her husband’s), they only realized she was a woman after she had joined.

Done One thing different about school compared to every other job I’ve ever had—you actually do finish. Wheth er you’re a student, a teacher or an administrator, once a year you’re done. The school year is complete. For better or worse, done well or not, you are done, done, done. It is finished.

Hazel and Harold settled happily into married life. After a brief stint in Edmonton, they moved to the Camrose area and started their family. In 1950, they moved onto their farm just outside Camrose and it was still Hazel’s home until she passed.

Hazel was an unforgettable presence. With sharp intelligence and interest in a wide variety of pursuits, she was a renaissance woman in many ways. Her flare for the dramatic was evident in her personal style, (who could forget all her hats, glasses and jewelry), her love of entertaining and her enjoyment for performing. Whether it was public speaking, dramatic readings or recitations to her grandchildren, Hazel embraced the thespian part of herself. She often mused if a life on stage may have existed had she been born in a different time or place. Hazel’s strong personality and determination afforded her a full and interesting life. Relying on her beloved CBC radio and the Globe and Mail, she stayed informed and current about Canadian politics, social issues, and the events of our world. “A woman before her time”, Hazel was never shy about sharing her opinions. A feminist in her own way, she was pro woman’s rights, pro gay rights and a great friend to those who knew her. A celebration of Hazel’s life will be held at the Camrose United Church on September 17, 2022, at 2:00 pm with a reception to follow. Hazel requested any donations on her behalf go to support CBC radio at: friends.ca (formally: friend’s of CBC).

In 1965 her various community and church activities cumulated in the perfect job for Hazel, when she was hired by the Alberta government to be a social worker. She loved her work, which involved responsibility for an extensive caseload covering a large rural territory. She remained in that role until her retirement in 1987. Her job as a social worker allowed Hazel and Harold to update their old farmhouse and provide them the opportunity to travel. They enjoyed trips to Hawaii, Australia, Europe, Sweden, as well as travel throughout the US and Canada. But above all, Hazel’s favourite spot was Venice, Italy. She travelled there several times, her last trip in 2012 at the age of 86.

First day Remember the first day of school? Remember enjoying the new supplies, wondering what the new school year would bring? “Fresh beginning” and “any thing is possible” is the mood I remember. Flashback to my first day of Grade 1. My dad drove me to school and, as it turned out, took me to the wrong school. There was some confusion as I was shuffled around to the correct school later that day. In both locations, as a not-quite-six-year-old, I had never before been in a room with so many other children, or even in a room with desks. Lots to take in. A different memory a generation later: First Day of Grade 1 for my firstborn child—releasing him into an environment dominated by adults and children be yond my control. How would my child do in that envi ronment? Would he be safe? Would he make friends? Would he have fun? Noticing other parents having the same experience… and later, with both my children, dealing with the fact that The teacher was now often a more important adult than I was in the life of my child. Before the beginning Like everything in life, the first day is never really the first day. It’s a marker but it began earlier…

Students and parents have been gathering sup plies and arranging whatever else will be needed. A while ago, my now-middle-aged daughter reminded me of her excitement the day her grandma took her shop ping for a First Day of Grade 1 outfit. For young adults leaving home to go away to school, many more aspects need to be arranged. Meanwhile, behind the scenes, others are taking care of administrative things—staffing, facilities, sup plies, funds. For teachers and administrators, the of ficial First Day of School when students arrive is not the first day. I live near a school and several weeks ago noticed the parking lot began to fill with vehicles of adults preparing for the day the students arrive.

The millennials Something else occurs to me. Nearly all students in Grades 1 to 12 were born in the 21st century. The majority of students going to college, university, trade school or some other post-secondary education were also born in the 21st century.

And once a year, ready or not, you begin with a fresh start. There’s something therapeutic about a rhythm where you can mark completions and new be ginnings–with a break in ***between. I’d love to hear from you. If you have comments about this column or suggestions for future top ics, send an email to Bonnie@BonnieHutchinson.com. I’ll happily reply within one business day.

In the early 1990s, Hazel and Harold purchased a home in Qualicum Beach, BC. From then on Hazel spent the warm months in Alberta and enjoyed her winters on Vancouver Island. She loved having the best of both worlds, summer on the prairies and mild winters on the beautiful West Coast. Only in the last few years did health conditions prevent Hazel’s yearly trek between provinces.

Hazel Alberteen Naslund passed peacefully on April 12, 2022 while in the care of the Eagle Park Nursing Home in Qualicum Beach, BC. She was 96 years old. Hazel was predeceased by her husband Harold Naslund and will be forever remembered by her children: Colin (Jo-Anne), Nathan (Catherine) and Valerie (Ian) as well as her grandchildren, John (Yulin), Eric (Olena), Tom and Hannah. Hazel Alberteen Grahn was born November 16, 1925 in Kingman Alberta. The daughter of Thor and Mabel Grahn, younger sister to Lloyd and older sister to June. Hazel grew up in central Alberta in the communities of Kingman and later Armena. For a large part of her childhood her parents ran a general store where Hazel eagerly helped out once she was old enough. Despite strong family and community ties, life during the Great Depression was hard. The values laid down during that period were evident throughout Hazel’s life. She also held dear the traditions of her Swedish heritage. Family and friends enjoyed her specialty baking and celebrations right up to the end of her life. At the age of 17, in 1942, (the height of World War II), Hazel moved to Vancouver to work in the war effort. She lived in a rooming house and worked in a ship building factory. Weekends were spent waitressing at a jazz club in Chinatown. You can only imagine what a spunky young woman living in Vancouver could get up to. Hazel had rich stories regarding this tense and exciting time in our nation’s history. When the war ended and all the jobs for women dried up, Hazel returned to Alberta. After reconnecting with Harold Naslund, they were married in November 1945.

To be remembered for the woman she was:

A loving and treasured mother, daughter, sister, aunt, grandmother, mentor and friend; An accomplished and sensitive teacher, social worker, counsellor, children’s advocate, business woman and executive director; An enthusiastic and talented seamstress, artist, gourmet cook, bridge player and volunteer; A vibrant, gentle humoured, brilliant woman of fierce intellect and immeasurable courage who lived her life fully, with dignity and grace. She will be deeply missed. With heartfelt gratitude, the family thanks the staff of Pine Cottage at Bethany Meadows Care Centre in Camrose, for the loving and compassionate care Mom received these last few years. Evalene Marie (Pederson)Bowie April 28, 1926 ~ August 20, 2022 Evalene Bowie (nee-Pederson) was born to parents Carl and Ella Pederson at Bawlf, Alberta, and was the elder of twoEvalenechildren.married Lloyd Bowie on July 6, 1946 and they spent the next 70 years together building a successful farm and raising four sons. Mom and Dad started life together on a quarter section just north of the George Bowie farm. Life was tough but Mom and Dad grew up during the 30s and WWII so they were accustomed to not having much, working hard and being frugal. Mom was as good as any hired help whether doing field work, haying, milking cows, or feeding calves; she did it all. She much preferred being involved outside. Evalene was a very social person. She belonged to the UCW, the Royal Purple, and volunteered at many community functions. She loved to visit with friends and play cards; the coffee pot was always on. As well, she was always available to babysit her grandchildren. As Harvey and Bill became more involved on the farm, Mom “hit the road” to do more volunteering with the Bethany Group, sitting with clients in hospital and in palliative care. She put lots of miles (speedy miles) on that Oldsmobile. Mom is survived by her four sons: Doug (Cathy), Harvey, Bill (Cindy), and Brent (Dawn); nine grandchildren; thirteen greatgrandchildren and countless friends. Evalene was predeceased by her husband Lloyd, parents Carl and Ella, sister Mildred and brother-in-law Hubert Twitchell. Mom, you travelled a long, hard journey. We love you – rest in peace. “The choir took a hia tus, although some of us did get together a couple times this spring/summer at the Rotary Pavilion in Stoney Creek to sing,” smiled JoyAnne remarking on how beautiful a location it was, so conducive to tapping into their creative talents and abilities.Joy-Anne said that choirs, like any team ac tivity, develop their own special community relying on each other as integral parts of the whole, moving towards a goal together.

Continued from page 12 “We managed to make it work and were planning a concert in April 2020 then COVID Joy-Annehit.” explained that of the two or three things around the world that were named as super spreaders of COVID, choirs was one and until more in formation surfaced about how the virus spread, choirs were put on hold completely for the first full year. In the second year some members of the choir had moved on, for one reason or another, and Camera ta’s membership dropped to around 12. Then after one or two rehearsals some other members, some that worked in health care and a few that had vulnerable family members, decided the risk of exposure was too great.

“With everything from Bach to the Beatles, we find a way to use our voices to cre ate beauty through music, bringing interest and exposure to things for our community. Once again, ready to gear up for the fall, JoyAnne said the Camrose Camerata invites anyone to come out and audition for the choir and join a group of others who love to sing and are excited to bring joy to the community through their“Cameratamusic. is looking for singers in all voice parts (soprano, alto, tenor and bass) to round out our core group.“The choir has been au dition-based, but really that means the director wants to hear what a singer’s range is, whether the colour of your voice will blend with the others in your section of the choir, and whether you can either read music a bit (and to what level) or are an “ear” learner (also to what level).”Regular rehearsals will start on Monday, Sep tember 12 from 7 until 9 p.m., at Camrose United Church (4829-50th Street).

“Camerata members look forward to being able to bring live performances of choral music back to Camrose, and are excited to see who might come along to join us.” If you are interested in becoming a member of Camrose Camerata, con tact Joy-Anne Murphy at 780-672-3372 or visit website or email at sing@ camrosesings.ca.

“We have this added gift of working with lan guage. Choirs are process ing the words in a really different way than if you had just read them or spoke them once. We are combin ing whatever that composer has decided to do as a mu sical setting and all the nu ances that can be brought to what is happening. Something becomes much more inspiring when you add music to it.

Steer Clear of Abbreviations Okay, so you want to include all the important basics. Don’t use strange abbreviations because our ads are designed to spell all the important details. Besides, you are not paying by the line, but by the word, so there is really no need to abbreviate. Be Honest Exaggerating your item’s finer points may bring in a lot of responses, but a buyer who’s misled won’t appreciate it and will take his business somewhere else. State Your Price The cost of an item is one of the most important concerns of want ad readers. Ads showing prices are ones which get results. Giving a price also serves to “weed out” those buyers not in your price range. Be Accessible Including a telephone number or address puts you in touch with potential buyers. Be sure to state the hours you can be reached: a caller who can’t get through the first time often won’t call again. Don’t hesitate to call us with any questions or problems you may have regarding advertising. Our professionally trained sales staff know the ropes, and would be happy to pass their know-how on to you. That’s why we’re here to help you get the results you deserve.
