The members of the Round Hill and District Agricultural Society and volunteers demonstrated the old-fashioned way of threshing during harvest at the Round Hill Harvest Show and Shine on September 4. Threshing, or thrashing, is the process of loosening the edible part of grain from the straw to which it is attached. It is the step in grain preparation after reaping (bottom right). These operations are carried out in the field with the help of animals and machines. Threshing demonstration brought back memories for retired farmers and was a learning experience for young people.
