Tough hill to climb in rainy Gippsland

More than 70 drivers braved the cold and torrential rain to take part in the second round of the 2020 Motorsport Australia Victorian Hill Climb Championship at Bryant Park. Hosted by the Gippsland Car Club, competitors were restricted with the amount of runs they got on the popular hill climb course, with some only getting just one go. For the top three though, it was all they needed as Bruce Minahan was the only driver to break the 50 second barrier with an event winning time of 49.39 seconds on his first go. Despite jumping on track once more later in the day, Minahan’s time remained comfortably unbeaten. In second place, almost two seconds behind Minahan was Derek Foster, while round one winner Mike Barker secured a podium finish with a time just six tenths of a second faster than the fourth placed Peter Minahan.

Rounding out the top five a further four seconds behind was Wim Janssen, with the Radical driver one of few to have more than five runs on the hill climb. While some decided to do as many runs as they could, most drivers, including the top 10 posted their best times on their first run and were unable to replicate it due to the condition of the course.
