Welcome to the 15th Annual Rock Church Marriage Getaway! First of all, we’d like to commend you on investing in your marriage! It is our sincere prayer that our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, will meet you and your spouse right where you are; and that ultimately, He would lead you to where you need to be. Secondly, this weekend could be the best weekend ever, but the reality is, that’s up to the both of you! The reason we say that, is because you’re going to be taught how to “Believe the Best” in each other, with a very simple yet challenging skill, that could greatly reduce drama and confrontation; as well as help you maximize your love for one another! Lastly, it doesn’t matter what is or has gone on, we want you to trust the Lord with all your heart, and not assume the worst about one another. Know that we have covered you all in prayer and will continue to do so. All we ask is that you begin by praying for the Lord to give you a heart to hear and receive His teachings! “Jesus, please allow this precious couple, whom you love so deeply, to see each other the way you see them. May they love one another daily with patience, kindness and a forgiving heart. Please help them to always ‘Keep Calm’ and ‘Believe the Best’ about each other. We pray all these things in your mighty name, Amen!
Pastor Darren Carrington Mrs. Vickie Carrington The LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.” Genesis 2:18

“Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowances for each other’s faults because of your love.” EPHESIANS 4:2
MEET THE TEAM PASTOR MILES MCPHERSON Whether at home, on the football field, or speaking in front of thousands, God has used Pastor Miles to be a very significant mouthpiece in declaring the Gospel and calling many people to Him, at Rock Church and around the globe. He and Debbie will be celebrating 32 years of marriage on September 11. They are blessed with two daughters and one son along with a son-in-law and daughter-in-law as well as their first grandson. The Marriage Getaway is one of Pastor Miles’ favorite events at the Rock and he couldn’t pass on the opportunity to speak and connect with married couples.
PASTOR DARREN CARRINGTON In 1989 Darren realized that even though he had achieved his childhood dream of making it to the NFL, his life was still incomplete. In 1992 he was taught that life was about more than just making money and partying, and surrendered his life to Jesus Christ. He took the passion he’d once used to live for the world and redirected it. Now he lives to let people know that living for Jesus is a much better way of life. The Lord’s assignment began in youth ministry and he has since been called to a marriage and family pastor role. He has accepted the challenge to help build healthy marriages, which will result in healthy families. He married his college sweetheart and they just celebrated 23 amazing years of marriage on April 10. They have three incredible children: Di’Arra-26; Darren II-21, Di’Jonai’-18 and their new grand daughter that arrived on March 22, Serenity.
GUEST SPEAKERS WEYMAN & SUSAN HOWARD Weyman and Susan Howard are the creators of the inspiring LoveWorks Seminar and the very powerful discipleship course called InnerRevelation> OuterRevolution. This was developed as a result of finding Christ’s love in the midst of their impending divorce and incredibly broken and pain-filled lives; miraculous life came not through magic but through the practice of receiving and giving God’s unfailing love. Like many, Weyman and Susan were raised in church but were never discipled to receive God’s love or clearly taught how to give it away to others. This basic neglect of Christianity’s premier goal: To love God and to love others, led to a religious, busy life with good intentions but ultimately could not give them the power they needed to overcome life’s great troubles or even sin. The Father, who loves his children, met them in their despairing lives and challenged them to follow Him. Obedience to Love, empowered them to confront their broken and sinful lives, and discover the miraculous power of Christ to heal and restore them. Love gave them the courage to face adultery, betrayal, sexual abuse, pornography, murder, and even the rejection of the church. When no one stood beside them with a word of hope, the Father tenderly met them and called them to Himself. Their story, of miraculous life, is an invitation from the Father to anyone who will dare to follow Him into radical life. Weyman and Susan have four amazing and beautiful children. They presently live in San Diego, California. They minister the healing power of Christ’s love across the nations.
MIKE CLARK BAND The Mike Clark Band originated in San Diego, California in 2007. The Alternative band leads the listener to a place of stillness and surrender, reviving the heart with a crescendo of violin, drums, and heart-tugging live vocals. The band’s clean sound and insightful lyrics come out of a place of gratitude and reverence for all that God has done and rescued them from . . . an eternity without God. Lead – Mike Clark // Electric Guitar – Dan Elliott // Drums – Nathan Menard Drums - Kenaniah Caron // Bass – Nathan Menard // Lead Vocal - Hilary Osterberg

M I N O R ADJ U STM E NTS , MA J O R I M P ROVE M E NTS In whatever you do, don’t let selfishness or pride be your guide. Be humble, and honor others more than yourselves. Don’t be interested only in your own life, but care about the lives of others too. Philippians 2:3-4 For 20 plus years I have gone to the same acupuncturist, and even though I’ve seen him work hundreds of times, It always amazes me how, with a few simple adjustments to my body, I feel completely different and so much better. A lot of times married couples think in order to see great improvement or any at all, radical changes need to be made. Now sometimes they do, but in most cases great results come from a few minor adjustments. One area of adjustment that couples neglect is expectations. If they would spend a little more time in this area, the results would be amazing. So with that said I want to start you off with a few general adjustments and encourage you to add 1 or 2 more of your own. .

K E E P CALM AN D B E LI E VE TH E B E ST Always be humble and gentle. Be patient and accept each other with love. Philippians 4:2 In every marriage you can be certain two things will exist, expectations and behavior. As long as the behavior meets the requirements of the expectations, all is good. You, being married, know it doesn’t always work like that. So whenever these two don’t meet, you control what happens next. Either you will “assume the worst” or “keep calm and believe the best” about your spouse. What will help you be able to accomplish the latter is your connection with Jesus, so be sure you are spending quality time in his word and in prayer. Keeping calm and Believing the best does 3 things: *Prevents you from saying or doing something you will regret *Helps you to remember ya’ll are on the same team *Allows you to respond in a Godly way
TO DAY ’ S C H A L L E N G E Discuss 1 scenario that makes it difficult to believe the best about each other. Pray over it, talk through it and practice what you can say to believe the best (perfect practice makes perfect).
NOTES
P R AY E R TI P S + Long prayers are not necessarily better than short prayers. + Don’t be a prayer corrector. + Don’t take shots at each other during prayers. (Lord, please make my wife/husband do…) + Ask each other what prayers are most needed personally and pray for that. + Pray for your goals and desires. + Pray for physical and mental health. + Stay attuned as to how best to love your spouse and pray for that. + Seek to grow closer to Jesus daily. + Ask God to protect you and your spouse physically, spiritually and emotionally. + Ask God to grant you more wisdom and discernment. + Pray daily Together for your children.

WHATCH U LOO K I N G FO R ? “If you search for good, you will find favor; but if you search for evil, it will find you” Proverbs 11:27 After a great meal, incredible dessert, while conversating, often times people grab a toothpick, looking for one thing the food stuck in between their teeth. In marriage it’s very normal to look for certain things in our spouse. The big question is “what are we looking for?” You can be assured of this, whatever it is you are looking for you will find. So let’s make sure we are looking for good things and fight against the culture and sinful nature to pick the bad. Make the next 3 questions part of your everyday conversation. Be on the look out for good and when giving correction start with what you appreciate or something good.
TO DAY ’ S C H A L L E N G E *Tell your spouse one thing you love about them *One thing you appreciate most about them *Ask your spouse one thing you can do to make their life easier and less stressful
