June is celebrated worldwide as Pride Month, a time dedicated to honoring the LGBTQ+ community's resilience, history, and ongoing struggle for equality.
Pride Month traces its origins back to the Stonewall Riots, a series of spontaneous, violent demonstrations by members of the LGBTQ+ community against a police raid that took place at the Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village, New York City, in June 1969.
