June just arrived, and in case you did not notice, we have 3 months left of Summer. Make sure to seize each day, go out to take some sun, discover the patios and squeeze some rest in the agenda.

Have you checked out the Residence Life Programs? This past month we hosted, Make your own Guacamole, Build your Bento Box, Mario Kart Tournament, Pizza Making, Mandala and Ping Pongs Afternoon. Check the upcoming events!

If you're looking to go out and explore, these are my personal suggestions: Toronto Island, High Park, Woodbine Beach and Distillery District.

Before I leave you to enjoy this issue that the Community Assistants put together for you, don't forget that we all continue working for you!

If you need any type of help, you can find Management in business hours at the 2nd floor office and the Dons every night at the Don on Duty Emergency Number.

Continue enjoying the Summer.

What's it like to come from abroad?

Unfortunately, my experience was cut short as I moved here just three months before Covid hit. Even after the world stopped, living abroad was great. Personally, I think that living in a new country where you don't know anyone is a great opportunity to get out of your comfort zone. It helps develop character and makes you grow as a person. Living in a student residence is a perfect place to make friends and develop meaningful and lasting relationships for the rest of your life.

What's one thing on your bucket list that you hope to accomplish?

What's a skill or hobby you have that people might not know about?

I play football. I don't look like someone who does, but it's amazing game that I love.

PRIDE PRIDE MONTH! MONTH!

Pride Month is a significant and empowering celebration that takes place every June, dedicated to the LGBTQ+ community and its ongoing fight for equality and acceptance. This month-long observance serves as a reminder of the progress made, the struggles endured, and the vibrant diversity that exists within the community.

Pride Month traces its roots back to the Stonewall riots of 1969, a turning point in LGBTQ+ history when individuals fought back against discrimination and police brutality. Since then, it has evolved into a global movement that promotes visibility, selfaffirmation, and solidarity among LGBTQ+ people and their allies.

During Pride Month, cities around the world come alive with colorful parades, festivals, and events that celebrate the LGBTQ+ community. It is a time for individuals to express their authentic selves, embrace their sexual orientation or gender identity, and feel a sense of belonging in a supportive and inclusive environment.

EVENTS SUMMER

TDSalsa On St. Clair

TD Salsa on St. Clair is a Latino-themed summer festival. It stretches across St. Clair Avenue West, transforming the street into a massive dance party. This free festival celebrates Latin American culture, food, music, and art. It offers dance classes, workshops, and a Salsa for Seniors program. This is the ideal location for learning basic salsa moves!

DoWest Fest

Have you ever seen a dragon boat race? Toronto's Dragon Boat Race Festival is the perfect place to witness such an event! This festival was established in 1989 to promote Asian-Canadian cultural relations. Nearly 5,000 athletes have participated in the race so far, and the event attracts around 65,000 visitors each year. The festivities also feature performances by local artists alongside the dragon race. If you want to watch an adrenaline-filled race from the stands, this summer festival is perfect for you.

The Toronto Caribbean Carnival will celebrate its 56th anniversary in 2023. It is organized by the Caribbean community in Toronto as a gift to Canada (originally to celebrate its centenary in 1967). The key event is the Grand Parada, a colourful street party with music and dancers. The festival also hosts a junior king and queen showcase. A junior parade for children is also organized.

The Do West Fest (formerly known as Dundas West Fest) is a combination of art, music, dance, food, and shopping. In 2022, the festival featured performances by Jimmy James, Jay Douglas, Ramon Chicharron, Adis Rodriguez & Havana 1950s, and many more. The event also hosts local food trucks and interactive projects. If you want to visit local businesses and also experience a fun day out, this festival is a great choice.
