Letter from the Editor
February has arrived!
This month was packed with activities and events. Our biggest program was 'Hi How Are You' and its focus on mental and physical health. We thank everyone who took the opportunity to write a kind note to someone and send them a candy. You also got to participate in Bell Let's Talk Day. Remember if you ever need to talk to someone our staff is here for you.
Our Residence Council also threw their big event, the Mask'd Affair. Make sure to look out for what they do next.
February can be a tough month and in Canada, it can be one of the coldest months as well. So take care of yourself and make sure to stay warm.
Feel free to reach out and remember to bring your key with you when you leave your room!

By. Res CouncilBeing single is the best opportunity that sets the path for you to grow as an individual. It's a chance for you to learn about yourself, and deeply understand your wants and needs. One of the most important things to remember is that you have the freedom to make your own choices and to do what makes you happy without worrying about upsetting anyone. This can be an incredibly liberating feeling and can allow you to explore your passions and interests in a way that might not have been possible in a relationship.
Another important aspect of being single is that it teaches you to be self-sufficient. It's easy to rely on a partner for emotional support and responsibilities, but when you're single, you must learn to take care of yourself.
This can be daunting at first, but it's also empowering. Being self-sufficient makes you strong, resilient, and responsible. It also allows you to build and maintain healthy relationships with friends and family. When you're single, you have more time to spend and strengthen those relationships with loved ones that are usually neglected. You can understand that you are enough and that you don't need to rely on a romantic relationship to be complete.
Take some time to reflect on your strengths and accomplishments. Remember that you deserve to be happy and successful. You are valid, and you have the ability to create anything that you put your mind to. It's important to surround yourself with people who support and encourage you and to surround yourself with positivity. When you start to doubt yourself, remind yourself of all the things you have accomplished, and all the things you are yet to achieve. You have the power to create your own reality, so don't let anyone or anything hold you back. Believe in
"I know hardly anyone in a relationship would say this, but Valentine’s Day really isn’t a big deal. It’s a Hallmark holiday; if you ’ re single, you have plenty of friends and family who love you and care about you regardless, and you can spend some time with them if you really want to avoid the manufactured feeling of loneliness. And if you are dating someone, are you really going to treat them any differently than every other day of the year because it’s the “romance-themed” holiday? Even if you are alone come the 14th, all people need solitude and company in equal parts, so don’t let it stress you out. Throw on a movie, grab a snack and enjoy a relaxing evening spoiling the one person that should matter the most; yourself."

Skinamarink
(Directed by Kyle Edward Ball)This film’s gotten a really polarizing reception, which really brings to mind the reactions the original Blair Witch Project got at the end of the 90’s; both are really, really slow and meticulously paced Skinamarink is a movie that will test your patience as a filmgoer; if you’re the type of person who watches arthouse, Canne film festival, Criterion Collection type films already, you’ll have no problem with this, but the average horror filmgoer that dives in expecting pure carnage and campiness will be given an absolute system shocker This is a film that absolutely will not work unless you turn off all the lights, put your phone away and really try to get invested in it
Your patience will absolutely be rewarded, however; I don’t scare that easily, but Skinamarink was easily the most unsettling thing I’ve ever watched, mostly because the insanely slow, creeping dread really starts to wear on you as you’re endlessly submerged into this fuzzy nightmare world. It really feels like you stuck a camera inside a child’s head during a bad dream; the low-quality video makes you start seeing things in the dark and wondering if something’s there you just can’t see, just like a kid waking up in the middle of the night.
Nostalgia is really the baseline of Skinamarink; the director has confirmed the film is based on his own childhood night terrors but also invites viewers to reach their own conclusions about the possible themes or why this is all happening, especially considering the film gives little answers of its own. The tension is already incredible but seeing your own personal fears and discomforts in the shadowy nothingness the film plunges you into can honestly be a bit much to bear
After all, if you stare too long into the abyss, it stares back into you.
As of writing this, Skinamarink is playing at the Fox Theatre on Queen Street and the Revue on Roncesvalles Avenue. It’s also available on Shudder
