Casino Night
Happy February CampusOne! Thank you for participating in a fun-filled January, we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did! Our resident team did a fantastic job competing at the Tower of Power event held at our property. It was great to see the enthusiasm and the energy that we all brought out to the competition. Huge shout out to Residence Council for making sure that we were supported, it is my hope that we continue to bring the residence spirit and cheer to the next competition at Centennial Place. An exciting event on the horizon for February is our Annual Casino Night Renewal and Leasing event. We will have an amazing night in the Sky Lounge playing casino games, with the added benefit of having the opportunity to renew your lease. There will also be some fantastic prizes you can win! It may seem a bit early, but we want to make sure that since you have enjoyed a year full of great experiences, that you are able to lock in your space for next year. This event is open to all residents, and you are more than welcome to bring a friend who is interested in living with us next year as well. As always should you need any support with Life at CampusOne please feel free to speak to your Residence Life Don, or any of the managers in the office. Dear Residents, First and foremost, thank you for choosing CampusOne as your residence this year. The CampusOne team is committed to making your experience the best that it can be, and providing a live-learn environment where you can truly feel at home. In November 2019 we asked for your feedback through the 2019 Feedback YAK survey. We thank all the residents who took the time to complete the survey. This year’s feedback and comments told us that we are providing an excellent residence experience, with a few areas of improvement. It is through direct feedback that we can understand what we need to improve. Through the feedback, the Laundry Room, Elevators, and Cafeteria Hours were identified as top issues that we need to focus on for improvement. We are certain that in the following days and weeks you will all see improvements including: •
The University of Toronto Dining staff will be announcing increased hours based directly on the feedback we received from you.

Our Laundry room will have a small make over and increased cleaning schedule.
•
Our Elevators have not been operating to the basic required expectations. We can share with you that we have engaged External Consultants to support CampusOne and to work with Schindler, our Elevator services provider, to get to the core of the shutdown issues. For this I wish to offer our sincere apologies for the inconveniences.
As a gesture of thanks, CampusOne will provide FREE LAUDRY from February 3, 2020 to February 28, 2020. As a CampusOne resident, you are part of the family and we want you to feel at home. Canada is cold and huge. We're sorry about that. That's why most of us live close to the U.S. Please don't make fun of us for it. Canadians are weird. For any of you coming from afar – Saudi Arabia, China, Russia, France or anywhere else – you may find the levels of politeness and apologies too much to handle. We are a strange folk. I sometimes think our niceties hide our insecurities. We neighbour the most powerful country in the world and yes, we are the little brother that pretends to be different to prove our worth. But we also find it hard to explain what a Canadian is to others. Some of us play hockey, some of us (most of us) visit Tim Hortons weekly, and all of us say "sorry" to someone for something every day. We say sorry to avoid having to say real sentences aloud in public –to strangers. Try it. Because we are weird, we developed our own brand of English, which is really just American English minus the "y'alls" and pronunciation of the letter "Z." We say "Zed" and not "Zee." The following list is Canadian slang, some of which you will never hear a Canadian say. Try these out in real life, instead of learning to say sorry, and you may pass for a Canadian in minutes: Loonie – A loon is a Canadian bird that is also the symbol on our dollar coin. But beware if someone says you should go to the "Loonie Bin." That type of loonie is different. Think of the film The Joker. Double-Double – This one gets regular usage. Go to Tim Hortons and order a double-double and you will find yourself with two creams and two sugars in piping hot coffee. It's the stuff that fuels the nation. Toque – The word toque looks French and it is, sort of. Its roots are in Ancient Arabic, although you would never need one in any Arabic-speaking country. Consider it a warm hat that protects you from winter. Maybe a Canadian grandmother can knit you one (ask nicely). Keener – If you are studious and like to put up your paw in class, other students may accuse you of being a keener. It's the Canadian version of geek, someone we also call a "brown-noser." It's not a bad thing at university. It is a bad thing if you are playing Trivial Pursuit (A Canadian trivia game) with 7 year-olds. Or 80 year-olds. Stealing the spotlight is very un-Canadian. Time to fetch my loonies for that double-double, eh! 16 | CAMPUSCONNECT

The flu and a cold can have similar symptoms. The difference is how intense they feel and how common they are. In general, symptoms of the flu appear quickly, while symptoms of a cold happen slowly.
