Dear WISEONE Dear WiseOne, The weather is finally starting to get nice and I want to explore the city. TTC and Uber can get expensive. Biking seems like a great way to get around; but, I’m terrified of riding in Toronto traffic! What can I do to get over my fear? Sincerely, I Like Bike Dear I Like Bike, Biking is a great way to get around; but, it can be scary without training and experience. The City of Toronto has Big City Cycling programs for adults, some of which are free to attend. Find more information on courses here. Once you’ve taken some courses, I would start small. Rent a bike on Toronto Island. Practice on the Beltline in Midtown. Once you’ve have some experience under your belt, graduate to road. Trust your gut and be safe!

Dear WiseONE, I just started an internship with a company that I have dreamed of working for. The first few days were amazing! Everyone was helpful. The work was interesting and challenging.

But, it started to go downhill. One of full time staff members’ kindness turned creepy. They stop by my work station everyday and make sure to touch my shoulder or hair. They comment on my outfit or my body. Others have seen it this behavior and not said anything. Am I being paranoid? I don’t want to jeopardize my position here. Sincerely, Creeped Out City Dear Creeped Out City, Dealing with unwanted behavior in your workplace is difficult. Talk to your direct supervisor and explain the situation. If you direct supervisor is causing the issue, talk to HR. Hopefully, your company has procedures in place for investigation and follow-up. It is natural to feel there might be repercussions for reporting unwanted behavior. However, retaliation is considered a form of illegal harassment in itself. If you find yourself in need of legal assistance, Legal Aid Ontario can help you locate a nearby community legal clinic. Any questions for the wise one? Click Here

Updates & Reminders Laundry Room Construction Starting May 1st, the Laundry Room will be under construction to bring it up to full operation. The project will executed in 3 stages (preparation, installation, testing/completion). We do expect there to be noise associated with the project and we apologize in advance. Though it is unavoidable, we are committed to limiting the disruption. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the Laundry Room construction should be completed by late June. During this time, the Laundry Room will be closed during the day and open at night from 5 pm – 7 am. Laundry will remain free until the start of the 2018/19 Lease Year. All questions and concerns can be directed to the Management Office on the 2nd floor in person, via email (campusone@studenthousing.com), or via phone (647-288-0827).

Meal Plan Reminders Current Meal Plan dollars will expire on May 31st, 2018. You can check your balance with the cashiers at the Dining Hall. You can’t sell or gift your meal plan dollars with another person (resident or non-resident); unless, you are transferring the entire remaining balance to your subtenant. You will have the option to buy into the meal plan for the summer months. The cost to buy-in is $650.00 per month fully taxable for June, July & August. The summer meal plan is optional for all residents.

Shoulder Season Shoulder season refers to the transition seasons like Fall and Spring, when the outside temperature often varies significantly on a day to day basis! Our building operates on a two-pipe system, meaning that either the heat or the air conditioning is running. Because of the variation in temperature, the system is switched over closer to the end of the season. The air conditioning will be serviced and start-up will be performed towards the end of May. In meantime, turn your system off completely if you find it warm!
