Move-out guide

It has been our honour to have been part of your academic journey, as you prepare to depart your Parkside home, we would like to wish you all success in your future endeavors. This guide is intended to help identify the steps and requirements to complete your stay and plan your move-out.

Plan in advance for your move-out, do not leave it to the last day. Please be advised that the move-out process is expected to be completed no later than forty-eight (48) hours after your final examination/assignment or by 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Friday, April 28, 2023 - whichever is the earlier date.

1.PREPARE YOUR BEDROOM AND UNIT:

Your bedroom and unit must be completely empty, cleaned out and cleared of all personal belongings. Garbage must be disposed of appropriately using the garbage chute and oversize refuse items must be noted on a work order for removal by our team. We recommend using a magic eraser to remove scuff marks on walls.

Don’t forget your bike! If you have a bike in our bike storage, please ensure to remove the bike and the lock. Parkside is not responsible for personal items left behind after move-out. Not removed personal items will be disposed of.

2.UNIT INSPECTION:

Management will inspect your unit with you at the time of move-out. Be sure to remove all garbage, personal furniture and belongings. To avoid charges your room must be clean and without damages. Please see page 2 for applicable charges.

3.KEYS + CARDS RETURN:

As you are ready to depart you must return your keys. These include the Access Card, Unit Fob, Bedroom Key, Mailbox Key, Laundry card and Lunch to Go Card. Keys and cards not returned at move-out will be assumed lost and a replacement charge will be required to be paid upon departure. Lost key payments will not be refunded if keys are returned at a later date.

MAIL AND PARCELS:

Upon departure, please ensure to collect all mail and parcel packages. Please make sure to change your mailing address with all of your contacts (family, friends, employers, banks, Amazon etc.) prior to your move out date. You can change your mailing address or redirect your mail online with Canada Post at: www.canadapost.ca

Please note Parkside will not redirect or forward mail or parcel packages for any resident.

EXPECTED MOVE-OUT ROOM CONDITION CHECKLIST

• All personal items removed

• Drawers / desk cleared and cleaned out

• All items removed from walls

• All surfaces wiped down shower stall, bath, and toilet cleaned

• Bathroom sink and counters wiped and clean

• All garbage disposed of

• Remember not to overload the garbage chute and cause blockage.

• Bedroom vacuumed / swept

• Common areas vacuumed / swept

Resident Notice of Charge and Damage Prices:

The following information is provided to assist you in your move-out and expedite your inspection process and prevent additional charges that can be incurred upon moving out.

Please review your Resident Handbook regarding possible charges for policy violations, should any violations be found at move-out.

1. All belongings/possessions must be removed from the unit and it should be cleaned prior to Check-Out.

2. Be sure your full balance - all rent, meal plan and other charges - are paid prior to your move out.

3. Turn in your key card, unit fob, bedroom key, mail key, Lunch to go and laundry card upon move-out to the front office or assigned check out station.

4. You are required to provide a Forwarding Address to Parkside Student Residence.

Above is a list of ESTIMATED CHARGES that may be applied should cleaning/repairs/ replacements be required to prepare the unit/ bedroom for future occupany. These charges are ESTIMATES AND AVERAGES, and may not include specialized labour or parts. If any items are MISSING OR DAMAGED to the point that they must be replaced, when you move out, you will be charged for the current cost of the item, plus labour and service charges. If ownership incurs a higher cost for replacing an item, you will be responsible for paying the higher cost. There may be additional charges for damages, such as paint, deodorizer, etc,. Any upholstery repair or cleaning of furniture may be charged to the resident(s). Shared Common areas will be charged and equally split to all unit residents. All the charges below are subject to HST.
