T

he Canadian Sport Horse Association (CSHA) aims to capitalize on the gathering of horse fanatics during the ‘Masters’ tournament by offering an exciting event immediately following it. The CSHA Select Sale features 16 horses that were carefully chosen by committee at an inspection and selection in June.

ABOUT CSHA SELECT SALE

There is a team of veterinarians associated with the sale including Dr. Dan French, Dr. Candice Crosby, Dr. Chris Berezowski and Dr. Herb Herbers. Reports will be available on each horse including radiographs, flexions and insurance exams. X-rays are already available on each horse. Flexions and insurance exams will be performed at the auction venue on September 3, 2013. Registered bidders may have X-rays of CSHA Select Sale horses e-mailed to their personal veterinarian. The CSHA promotes Canadian breeders and Canadian-bred horses in sport. The Select Sale is truly a showcase of the best of breeding in Western Canada.

The selection committee, which included well known industry members Bob Henselwood, Connie Dorsch, and Alan Wedge, selected horses that will be competitive in the sport disciplines of hunter, jumper, dressage or eventing. Cerebral Palsy Kids & Families The Angus Watt Advisory Group at National Bank Financial in Edmonton is sponsoring the CSHA Select Sale’s 2013 charitable item

“Geoffrey’’ benefiting the Cerebral Palsy Kids and Families The motor abilities of many children with cerebral palsy are severely affected due to brain damage. Customized adaptations including special seats, side wheels, raised foot plates and specialized handlebars can help keep a special needs child balanced and in control of a bike. Adapted bicycles can be very expensive, ranging from $1200 to several thousand dollars. Key benefits include: • Improved coordination, endurance, and cardiovascular fitness, & strength • Improved communication between the two hemispheres of the brain • A greater level of self-confidence and a greater sense of independence • Allows children to have fun! The full CCPA Adaptive Bike Program requires approximately $70,000 to support the 50+ children who apply for adaptive bike funding annually. For most of our member families, the financial cost of one of these bikes makes them unattainable. There is no government funding available to families for recreation equipment like bicycles, as there is for wheelchairs and other essential daily living devices. It is the goal of the CCPA to fund the full cost of the adapted bicycles for our members. The CCPA’s Adaptive Bike Clinic success is evident in the delighted look of pride when children with cerebral palsy are able to take part in neighborhood bike parades or just keep up with the other kids on the street. Within the Calgary community, people are realizing that with specialized equipment, even severely disabled children can have the joy and benefits of riding a bicycle.

The CSHA Select Sale is proud to include a Henri de Groot original portrait with this year’s charitable item. ‘Geoffrey’ will be sold as Bridle #1 with a stunning portrait generously donated by one of Alberta’s well known artists. Henri is best known for creating highly refined Portraits of the West. Using both oil and graphite, he produces beautifully detailed images of people, horses, and for the CSHA Select Sale, donkeys!
