The above mugshot of rock icon David Bowie was taken on March 21, 1976 after police arrested him and three associates in a downtown Rochester, New York hotel room at 2:25 a.m. The charge? “Fifth-degree criminal possession of marijuana,” according to the Democrat and Chronicle, Rochester’s daily paper. “Police said they confiscated what they described as about half a pound of marijuana. The charge is a Class C felony, carrying a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.” Bowie performed at the Rochester Veterans War Memorial as part of his 65-show Isolar Tour.
