DFW

THE CORRIDOR WELCOME

FEBRUARY 2019

February is already upon us and it seems like we were just ringing in the new year. So much is happening with The Christie Cannon Team and The Corridor DFW. To start, Christie Cannon has been showing her expertise on multiple fronts. If you haven’t heard her segments with our very own cover featured personality, Mike Fisher of 105.3 The Fan, you might have seen her discussing real estate on the American Dream Network. If not, be sure to tune in Thursday mornings to WFAA, as Christie will now be the featured Real Estate Expert on Good Morning Texas! It was so exciting to put this issue together. A huge thanks to Mike Fisher, most known as the Cowboys and Mavericks insider with 105.3 the Fan, for being such a facilitator of beneficial relationships and all-around advocate of The Christie Cannon Team. We are honored to have him, along with his wonderful wife Marcia Fisher, pictured on our cover. Like usual, we also want to bring you some visual inspiration through one of IBB Design’s talented designers, Lauren Macnak. Then, if you have a tough time in the kitchen, we bring you a simple, 3-course meal recipe for two that anyone could make for their special someone this Valentine’s Day. If you want a little insight to the giver of exclusive exclusives, check out the Fish feature which includes photos with Jaylon Smith and Charlotte Jones Anderson. Further, The Christie Cannon Team’s very own in-house designer Melissa Abati gives us some need to know staging tips for you sellers out there. Like to ride? Check out all the Shawnee Trail Cycling Club is doing for health and cycling safety and education. This month our issue focuses on bathrooms, so enjoy these lovely en-suite images taken from several of our incredible listings. Yes, these beautiful homes are available for purchase! We highlight The Tribute in The Colony as our featured community and, let me tell you, there is no other place in DFW like this place. It really does have it all. This month we changed things up a little and featured our spotlight and luxury listings like usual, but added a land listing, as well. This scenic plot on Lake Lewisville is the perfect place to build your dream home. Finally, don’t forget that we are still accepting donations for Frisco FastPacs at The Cannon Team Office and this will continue throughout the school year. The normalizing of the real estate market began in Dallas and it’s feeling a lot less one sided for buyers now. It is still a great time to buy and sell homes in this current economy. Remember that all the homes featured in this magazine are for sale. You can look up each of the listings online or call us at The Christie Cannon Team for more information. As always, please enjoy this free issue of The Corridor DFW. Don’t forget to like the Corridor DFW’s Facebook page! : @thecorridorDFW All the best,

She now takes inspiration from the world around her – from an interesting and unique textile to a sculpture or the architecture of a building. It’s important for Lauren that her clients’ homes be a blend of function and style that reflects their personalities. Paying attention to their individual needs is most important to her. Treat your special someone to a healthy, yet indulgent Valentine's dinner.

Parmesan Crusted Stuffed Chicken Breasts Serves: 2

Ingredients: 2 chicken breasts 1 cup fresh spinach 1 cup freshly shredded parmesan, plus more for garnishing 1 bulb freshly chopped garlic 1 chopped red onion sea salt. garlic powder. Directions: Rinse the chicken breasts with warm water. Cut a slit in the sides of each breast forming a pocket inside each breast. Stuff with a handful of the fresh spinach, red onion, a couple of pinches of the fresh garlic, and a handful of the fresh parmesan. Rub a little olive oil across the top of the chicken breasts. Sprinkle with a couple of pinches of sea salt. Place each breast onto a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.

Prosciutto Wrapped Asparagus

Serves: 2

Ingredients: 12 Fresh Asparagus Stems 12 Thin Slices Prosciutto 4-5 Cloves Chopped Fresh Garlic First Cold Pressed Olive Oil Directions: Snap off the hard ends of the asparagus. Individually wrap each asparagus with a slice of the prosciutto. Coat a stovetop griddle with two tablespoons of olive oil and sautĂŠ the chopped fresh garlic for 2-3 minutes at between medium and medium high heat. Then place the prosciutto wrapped asparagus onto the griddle. Brown on both sides and then cover with a lid and reduce the heat to just below medium. Cook (turning occasionally) until asparagus is done to your tastes (still crispy or soft).

Generously cover the chicken breasts with freshly grated parmesan cheese. Bake uncovered in the oven for 30-35 minutes at 350 degrees. For more well done chicken, add 5-10 minutes. Cut in half and serve! Enjoy!

Drizzle the crust with about a quarter cup of honey. Bake for 15 minutes at 350. Remove from oven and let cool completely. Gently add the vanilla yogurt, smoothing it out lightly into the crust with a spoon. Top with your favorite fruits, chill uncovered in the refrigerator, then cut & serve like a pie.

Your loved ones will feel extra special this Valentine's Day with these simple and delicious recipes that are sure to impress!

Beautiful Tart Serves: 6 Ingredients: One bag of Purely Elizabeth Cranberry Pecan or Blueberry Hemp Granola 1/2 cup melted Kerrygold Unsalted butter One quart low fat vanilla yogurt Your favorite fresh fruits to decorate the tarts (strawberries, kiwi, blueberries, blackberries) 1/4 cup local honey Directions: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, with your hands break apart the larger chunks of granola until all the granola is approximately the same size (not too crumbly, but small chunks). Mix in half the melted butter and stir thoroughly so the granola begins to stick together. Use the remaining butter to grease a pie pan - making sure to thoroughly cover the bottom & sides. COVERING THE CO “EXCLUSIVE - EXCLUSIVES” WITH MIKE FISHER

M

arcia and Mike Fisher can recall the exact time, a few that was a young man coving the Denver Broncos (for his years ago, when they decided to buy their home in the hometown newspaper in Greeley, Colorado) and the San Frisco area. Francisco 49ers.

"As soon as Jerry Jones determined where he was going to set up shop,'' Mike says, laughing, "we were able to determine where we could set up shop.'' Mike - "The Fish'' to Dallas Cowboys fans who have followed his coverage of "America's Team'' for over 30 years -- now resides just a few miles away from The Star in Frisco, the home base for Jones' Cowboys team headquarters. Mike offices there as part of his work with Cowboys flagship radio station 105.3 The Fan and with 247Sports, where in both spots he's recognized for his "Exclusive-Exclusives'' on the Cowboys. Fisher, has been covering the Cowboys, the Dallas Mavericks and professional sports in Dallas/Fort Worth since 1990, and before

Says Mike: “When I covered the Broncos, they went to two Super Bowls, and I went with them. Then I got hired to cover the 49ers, and they went to two Super Bowls. By the time I’d covered the Cowboys and their three Super Bowls in four years, I started thinking maybe I was a lucky rabbit’s foot.’’ Whether the Cowboys are up or down has little impact on Fish’s popularity with DFW fans. An award-winning journalist, TV analyst and radio talk-show personality with deep connections with Jones and his organization and with Mark Cuban and his organization, he is Dallas’ most “embedded’’ reporter, and has one of the highest audience recognizability ratings of any media figure in North Texas. (He travels on the Cowboys team plane and stays at the team hotel on their road trips.)

That popularity has resulted in two popular books written about the Cowboys (with forwards from Jerry Jones and Troy Aikman) and it makes him a natural spokesman for businesses like "Next 2 Natural'' and our own "The Cannon Team,'' a connection that feeds his interests not only in sports and journalism, but also in real estate, design, investing and the overall healthy growth of North Texas. "I've raised my family here, and except for the fact that I never ever want to retire -- because I'd get bored! -- North Texas is where I'd want to retire,'' he says. "The old saying about Dallas is that Mondays are always better when the Cowboys win, and it's true. But for me, with the opportunities I've been blessed with here, really, North Texas has for me been fantastic the other six days of the week, too!''

Staging Success in

M

BY: MELISSA ABATI

arketing your home to sell is completely different than living in your home.

You’ve de-cluttered, made the necessary repairs and deep cleaned your home. Now, there’s only one final task to complete in order to place it above the competition and get it sold quickly, and that’s staging it. Properly staged homes have proven to spend less time on the market and are awarded higher offer prices per square foot than those not staged, according to the National Association of Realtors. So, here are some quick and easy tips to help get your home staged right and sold in a hurry:

GENERAL STAGING TIPS: • • • • • •

Make your home look and smell as clean, fresh, bright and welcoming as possible Ensure all light bulbs are working and bright Clear walkways of furniture Remove dark drapery and open all window treatments to allow as much light as possible into the home Put away religious and political items Reduce excess furniture in rooms as this can make spaces appear smaller

Center artwork on walls and ensure the center of each piece is about 5-1/2’ above the floor Add several real or high-quality faux white flowers, like hydrangeas or orchids, or small pieces of greenery, such as succulents, to help bring life into spaces like bathrooms and kitchens Add accessories such as accent pillows, books, and light-colored candles in groupings of odd numbers and varying heights as needed to help catch viewer’s eye

2401SADDLEHORN.COM

Check out the helpful staging tips below, focused on 5 key areas to get your home looking its best for potential buyers!

1. KITCHEN AND DINING AREAS

Counter tops should be clear of clutter and pantries should be organized. Clean all appliances and remove magnets from refrigerator. Grout on tile floors should be cleaned, and items from above cabinets removed. Dishes should be washed and put away, and sponges and paper towels placed inside cabinets. Floors should be free from small rugs and trash cans should be hidden. Adding a bowl of fresh, brightly colored fruit to an island, table or countertop provides a nice pop of color to catch the viewer's attention. Lemons, apples or pears make good choices. Rotate round dining tables and chairs to sit at a 45-degree angle instead of straight forward to soften the space. Remove leaves in tables and reduce chairs to a minimum to allow more clearance and make the spaces appear larger.

2. LIVING AREAS

Hide any clutter and place items that must stay on the floor into nice baskets. Minimize personal photos, replacing images with nature shots where needed. Arrange furniture so that the focus of the room is on the best-selling feature of the space, like a fireplace, instead of on the television. Furniture surfaces should be relatively clear of nick-knacks. Rooms with a mantle can instantly look grander with the addition of a mirror resting above it.

1801VANLANDINGHAM.COM

3. BEDROOMS

Beds should be anchored on the wall opposite the bedroom door, neatly made, with any items underneath the beds hidden from sight. Bedding and window treatments are best if kept light and neutral colored, with accessories placed properly for pops of color. Furniture surfaces should be decluttered, and personal items should be put away. Remove rugs that sit on carpeted floors. Remove additional artwork if more than 2-3 pieces are displayed. Closets should be neat and empty enough so that buyers can see the storage space offered.

4. BATHROOMS

Countertops and showers need to be cleared of personal items. Rugs, trash cans and cleaning items should be hidden, and toilet room doors kept shut. Solid, light colored shower curtains and towels are best in these spaces. Bath towels and hand towels should be displayed on every towel bar and ring. It is imperative that bathrooms be thoroughly cleaned to look their best.

5. EXTERIOR

1662NATURALBRIDGE.COM

Both front and back yards should be mowed, with bushes trimmed and weeds or dead plants removed. Brightly colored, attractive flowers should be planted near the door for an inviting feeling. Doors should be polished, including hardware, with a clean doormat added at your feet. Remove any clutter from yard and power wash walkways or driveways to ensure access to the home is clear

Shawnee Trail Cycling Club

D

Did you know that one of the largest and best cycling clubs in the U.S. is based right here in North Texas? Shawnee Trail Cycling Club (STCC) is rooted in Frisco, Texas, and was recently recognized as the National Bicycle Club of the Year by the League of American Bicyclists in 2018. A large, diverse club, still with the small club experience, its 700+ members come from all walks of life, and all parts of the world. Members gather from throughout North Texas to participate in both the weekly rides and events offered by the club, as well as to support its advocacy efforts.

Road is the site of the original cattle trail path through the area, and the creek running through Starwood Park was one of the favorite watering holes and overnight stops for the herds. Keeping the cattle safely in motion from pickup to market was the primary goal of the trail drivers and their trips promoted the eventual development of the railroad system and helped build many communities along the way. This encouraged new and varied forms of transportation, including the bicycle, for all kinds of uses.

STCC offers regularly scheduled rides, year-round and in most types of weather. All Formed in 2009, STCC is a 501(c)3 non-profit rides are no-drop, meaning they ensure no one gets left behind just because they couldn’t organization with a mission to educate and keep up with the group with which they promote cycling in all aspects of life. After much research and group Sunday morning and Thursday night discussion, they settled on “Shawnee Trail”, rides to the current 40 groups, with rides a name taken from one of the old trails that available as often as 6 days, 5 nights, and was used to drive cattle from south Texas to twice on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday. both paved and gravel. On bad weather days, you can even catch a group ride on the virtual ride platform Zwift, just to keep things rolling. The heart of the STCC ride success sprouts from our Ride Leaders. STCC Ride Leaders are club volunteers that give of their time and expertise to better the safety and enjoyment of those who ride. There is a certification program for our Ride Leaders that contributes to the consistency of how our rides are run, from fastest to slowest groups. These Ride Leaders also serve as Ride Marshals for large local events, including the Emmitt Smith Gran Fondo, giving their time to assist participants who have mechanical or medical difficulties along the way. But this club is so much more than just the weekly rides. Our true focus is on education and the promotion of the bicycle through our work with communities and cycling advocates. Education is a key part of what we do to increase awareness and safety for all. We offer monthly classes during the summer to work with those who are new to group riding or taking their bikes on the road. We also offer periodic Traffic Skills classes with certified instructors.

We provide additional educational opportunities to our members too, such as CPR classes, bike skills sessions and admission to the annual Trail Building School offered by IMBA. STCC even holds Bike Valet at community events and Bike Rodeos for local schools on request. This club is busy all the time. STCC has an annual donation program which gives bike racks and repair stands to local communities and points of interest for use by the general public. This is one method we use to encourage and assist cyclists in community areas and along well traveled paths. These are installed across North Texas, including at all Frisco Fire Departments, the Hollyhock neighborhood, downtown McKinney, along the Shoreline Trails in The Colony and the Lakeshore Trail in Little Elm. You can find bike racks in front of the Frisco Library and even at Mom’s in Aubrey. Another location that we are especially proud of is the Salvation Army Dormitory in Dallas. This facility now has bike racks and a repair stand used by our veterans who are housed there, with the bicycle serving as their only mode of transportation. Another way this club helps the community is by adopting streets in Frisco, including Main Street, from DNT to the railroad tracks, and Lebanon, stretching from Boyd to the golf courses. We frequent these very visible locations and felt a duty to show our appreciation for the support we get from businesses and residents in these areas. With STCC support, members of the club have played key roles in the development of the Frisco MTB Trail, submission and attainment of Bicycle Friendly Community Bronze status by Frisco, and Honorable Mention by The Colony. We serve on Bicycle Advisory Committees in several communities, as well. The club is a member of the Chamber of Commerce in Frisco and The Colony, with flyers included in new resident packages for those new to the area. Using the club domain www.new2ntx.com, new residents are provided with general cycling information and links to guide them through local and statewide cycling routes, laws, trails and cycling maintenance.
