It will highlight how to deal with accident/incident investigations as a team; provide information about communication during an accident/incident investigation; and give examples of lessons learned, including both successful and unsuccessful handling of issues during an accident/incident investigation.

The session will include a simulated accident/incident investigation, to prepare ANSP senior management for critical situations.

Tuesday 6 December - Continued 11:30 – 12:30 Measuring Environmental Performance Aviation capacity demand is expected to grow rapidly in the coming decades and will have a direct impact on the environmental performance of the aviation industry. Air navigation service providers (ANSPs) play a vital part in the implementation of policies and practices that limit and reduce aviation’s environmental footprint. This session will investigate how ANSPs can effectively manage environmental performance.

12:30 – 13:30 CANSO ATFM Data Exchange Network for the Americas Air traffic flow management (ATFM) is an enabler of air traffic management efficiency and effectiveness. This session will focus on the recently established CANSO ATFM Data Exchange Network for the Americas (CADENA), and its role in defining and implementing regional ATFM capabilities. The session will review the effectiveness of existing and planned ATFM systems in the Latin America and Caribbean region; make specific recommendations regarding ATFM; and identify an appropriate mechanism for the ongoing review of such systems.

15:00 – 16:15 Runway Safety Safety is the aviation industry’s number one priority and as air traffic in the region increases, so should our understanding and development of safety processes and procedures. This session will open with a discussion on safety culture and its importance for improving runway safety. The panel will then discuss safety performance indicators, operational problems and methods and equipment to protect runways. Safety enhancement initiatives such as stakeholder advisory councils and Runway Safety Action Teams will also be highlighted.

(SEANS-Safety) Workshop FOR CANSO ANSP MEMBERS ONLY

The CANSO Standard of Excellence in Air Navigation Services - Safety (SEANS-Safety) is an approach to assess and demonstrate the safety management system (SMS) maturity levels of air navigation service providers (ANSPs). SEANS-Safety will provide CANSO Members with an impartial, standardised means of assuring and demonstrating ANSP safety management capabilities both internally and externally to regulators and ICAO. This SEANS-Safety workshop will provide training for assessing and evaluating the SMS maturity levels of ANSPs and recommended steps for reaching the next level. It is for CANSO ANSP Members (safety professionals) only.

As a follow-up to the CANSO-IATA-ICAO meeting in Fort Lauderdale in April 2016, the respective organisations are finalising a new performance-based navigation (PBN) route structure for implementation. This workshop will review the advances and benefits of the eight agreed routes that will harmonise an efficient PBN route structure; and begin the implementation process of the second phase of the project.
