CIAD5011 Project 03/ CIAD5012 Project 04 0.1 T hematic over vie w
Designers, we exist in a science fiction, we imagine a world where our dreams on paper are technically achieved. But what might the future feel like? Taste like? Often the future is post-apocalyptic, manically sublime or mono-aesthetically sterile, but where will the robots sleep, and could there be thatch on Mars? We are ever more motivated by the myth of technological connection, but how do we relate to tactile experience in this glassy world? How do we keep technology natural? Can we save the bees? Students are encouraged to progress and examine primary research through speculation and connection and go for a walk in an alien world. This is a year of transformation and change, adaption to new presents and new futures, ideas of inheritance and mutation. The first project follows themes of bringing the inside into the outside. What activites can you think of that would be better outside? Firstly, the project entails a live, team, build on the quad to create an outside feeling enclusure that cna contain activies you might normally expect to do inside. Your second project follows the same ideas of environmental change, mutation and unknown futures, but through ideas of radical reprogramming of a heritage environment, bringing the outside into the building. Whilst our local built environment and science-fiction may seem like worlds apart, they have the common theme of adaption to a new present and an unknown future of infinite possibility, the layering of our vernacular with our future selves.

This year you will develop skills which are specific to the agenda of Interior Architecture and Design. You will be engaging with ideas of light touch, transience, temporary, interactive, installation, transformable, adaptive and notional, ecology and sustainable practice. You will be thinking about ways to work with different media and different methods of defining space, ideas you as interior architects can explore in greater depth with the particular specialisms and freedoms of the discipline. This year you can engage with an experimental platform of methods and skills which will hopefully stand you in good stead for your final honours year. 0.5 Assessment & Feedback
The full unit will be assessed in a final portfolio submission in the form of a completed project output. Portfolios should demonstrate exemplar ordering and presentation of your individual work. They will be based upon completion of all components and all phases outlined in this and all subsequent briefs. Assessment will be based upon criteria that are mapped to the learning outcomes itemised overleaf. It is worth noting that the learning outcomes also include the 1:1 live build, so perfomance during this period is also very important. Formative feedback will be provided at the completion of each phase or stage. Written feedback should only be seen as a summary. Students are expected to lead in recording more detailed feedback during crit panels. Feedback types for each crit are identified in the overall course programme.

RESIT BOARD OF EXAMINERS???
UCA Canterbury School of Architecture // BA Interior Architecture & Design // Stage 2 // 2017-2018
0.13 Lear ning Aims
The aims of Project 03 are: A1: To provide knowledge of materials and analogue and digital modes of fabrication utilised in the production of small and medium scale interiors projects A2: To develop an understanding of the qualities, potentials and implications related to the use of specific materials, relevant manufacturing and construction processes through direct engagement and experimentation A3: To instil competence with relevant design tools and contemporary fabrication processes that would enable the implementation of suitable interior architecture and design proposals A4: To introduce the specific forms of communication utilised in collaborative design and fabrication processes including detailed design drawings and specifications. The aims of Project 04 are: A1: To situate interior architecture and design in relation to an existing built fabric and to promote critical consideration of the relationships between the proposed project and its existing context A2: To encourage ways of using research and analysis in order to critically generate a conceptually driven design process for the production of relevant schemes A3: develop the ability to design and develop detailed spatial propositions, which carefully articulates the relationship between existing and proposed structures, uses and users, and respond to specific contextual, programmatic and technical requirements A4: To develop the technical knowledge and skills related to the design and representation of a spatial project situated in an existing space.
0.14 Lear ning Outcomes
On satisfactory completion of Projects 03 you will be able to: LO1: demonstrate knowledge of materials, details and assembly methods involved in the analogue and digital modes of fabrication of interior architecture and design projects (A1) LO2: demonstrate a clear understanding of the qualities, potentials and implications related to the use of specific materials, relevant manufacturing and construction processes (A2) LO3: investigate, experiment, develop and fabricate ambitious and considered 1:1 scale design installations that respond to material and contextual constraints and meet the needs of the brief and intended users (A3) LO4: represent design development and specific information that effectively communicates design ambition to industry standards (A4). On satisfactory completion of Projects 04 you will be able to: LO1: develop a design process, driven by a clear conceptual approach based on rigorous research and analysis of relationships between the proposed project and its existing context (A1) LO2: design and develop detailed interior architecture and design propositions, articulating a clear relation with the context and between existing and proposed structures, uses and users, responding to specific contextual, programmatic and technical requirements (A2, A3) LO3: describe a design development process and present a detailed design proposal in its complexity of deployment and use through the use of orthographic drawing conventions as well as a range of appropriate forms of representation (A4).
