Two NEW Enshrinement Festival Events Coming to Canton This September For 52 years, the Pro Football Hall of Fame and Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce have taken great pleasure and pride in hosting the Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival each summer. This year, however, football-themed fun doesn’t end with the traditional conclusion of the Festival in August! Canton, the birthplace of the NFL and home of the Pro Football Hall of Fame – is counting down to the NFL season, and we’re inviting you to join us in a four-day celebration in September! CANTON KICKOFF CELEBRATION We’re excited to announce the first-ever Canton Kickoff Celebration on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, September 10, 11, and 12 in downtown Canton. The dates were chosen to coincide with the first game of the NFL season on Thursday night, and to celebrate Canton being the “Hall of Fame City” all yearround, not just during two and a half weeks each summer.

How will the nation use the abundance of energy discovered in the Utica and other U.S. shale plays? Will it really lead to U.S. energy independence? How will Utica gas affect transportation, electricity generation, the chemicals and plastics industry? How will abundance and low prices encourage manufacturing growth? These are the questions our speakers will answer at Utica Summit, now in its third year. This one-day regional conference gives you insights into the 21st Century energy revolution. Utica Summit III, presented by the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce, The Repository, and ShaleDirectories.com, is scheduled for Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at The Conference Center, Kent State University at Stark. OIL & GAS August Oil and Gas News - Utica Summit III Speakers Utica Summit III, our third and final oil and gas seminar of 2015, will feature a speaker who helped find an Ohio home for an ethane cracker. Jason Hamman, the economic development consultant for Monroe County, will talk about how Monroe attracted Appalachian Resins, a Houston-based company interested in building a $1 billion cracker to convert ethane, an abundant Utica Shale gas, into ethylene and polyethylene, materials that are used in plastics manufacturing. Utica Summit III will be Oct. 13 at the Conference Center at Kent State University Stark. Hamman, founder of Hamman Consulting Group, will be able to tell Ohio business leaders about the kinds of business support that such a plant needs and the kinds of businesses that can prosper when such a plant is completed. He will speak about the Appalachian Resins project at the recommendation of Appalachian CEO James Cutler. Our Utica Summit programs have always included segments focusing on the downstream benefits of the abundant energy being found in the Utica Shale. For the past two years, we have featured speakers that have talked about the polyethylene market and the likelihood that a cracker would be built in this region. Hamman for the first time at Utica Summit will represent the interests of a company proposing to build a cracker.

UPCOMING EVENTS August AultCare Fast Break Breakfast: How to Work with a Multi-Generational Team Millennials, Gen-Y, Gen-X, Baby Boomers…. how can we all interact effectively in the workplace? In today’s workplace, the possibility exists that four generations could be interacting with one another. Each generation could be a co-worker, customer or even just that generation’s mind-set in the corporate culture itself. Every generation has a unique definition of work ethic, methods for accomplishing tasks, teamwork and how to provide good customer service. Because of these unique perspectives, a sign of respect as offered by one generation may be perceived as an affront to another. Join Deborah Easton, Communications Skills Coach, as she shares examples of how generational characteristics affect people’s behavioral choices. By understanding the origins of each generation’s mindsets and values, you

can learn strategies for communicating most effectively within your own multigenerational team. About our speaker: Deborah Easton has been a nationally known Communication Skills Consultant, Trainer and Coach for 33 years. Her training programs offer practical and effective advice for communicating with colleagues, customers or direct reports. Through humor Deborah provides techniques for one-to-one interactions or group communications and demonstrates practical strategies for handling difficult interactions. Deborah has a master’s degree in speech communication and taught communication courses (1981 – 1991) in Kent State University’s Department of Communication Studies. She also taught Managerial Skills for 4 years in Kent State’s Graduate School of Management. She has conducted programs for dozens of businesses and organizations throughout the region. About the Breakfast: Fast Break attendees have the opportunity to obtain business leads through enjoyable networking activities

It will be a forum for high-level conversation about what is possible, now and in the future, all because of the technology that permits horizontal drilling of the shale plays in the United States. Y OUTH EMPLO YMENT PROGRAM Juvenile Court Youth Employment Program Want to help a troubled youth become a working, taxpaying citizen? Consider this. Through the Stark County Juvenile Court Apprenticeship Program, youths who have come before the court have a chance to learn job skills, and maybe a paying job. A job is a great alternative to behavior that can get kids in trouble.

Our Canton Regional Chamber members told us we needed to be deeply involved in workforce development. To us, that means helping to develop the workforce in conventional and unconventional ways.

If you know a kid who deserves a chance, or if you yourself once needed someone to give you a chance, you might be able to help the program and its kids.

For more information on the Stark County Family Court Apprenticeship Program, contact:

Here’s how it works: Court-qualified kids would get the opportunity to work an eight-week apprenticeship at your business at no expense to you.

That is why we are telling you about this Juvenile Court job-skills program.

Rick Senften Juvenile Court Work Connections caseworker (330) 451-7408 (330) 232-4551 (cell) rdsenften@starkcountyohio.gov

You would agree to provide training and a weekly critique, which you would share with the youth and his or her job coach from the Juvenile Court. At the end of eight weeks, you would be asked to offer the youth a job or a letter of reference.

BIZ BITZ Walsh University has appointed Aron Kitzmiller as director of marketing effective August 3, 2015. Kitzmiller brings more than 10 years of marketing experience to this position including leadership roles in the development and implementation of strategic marketing campaigns, communications plans and advertising initiatives. He has held previous jobs throughout the Canton area as well as participates in productive community activities. Reporting to the vice president of marketing and communications, Kitzmiller will be responsible for the planning, execution, tracking and analysis of University-wide marketing strategies, including the coordination of all advertising for Walsh’s schools, divisions and community programs. On Friday, August 7, amid a big band fanfare and notable NFL guests, Colorado artist Gail Folwell will unveil her sculpture, The NFL Draft (1936), on the corner of Cleveland Avenue NW and 4th Street NW in downtown Canton. Folwell is an artist and athlete known for her large-scale contemporary bronze sports figures in expressive, physically active poses. Her style is abstract. “I was drawn to The NFL Draft, 1936 (moment) because it demonstrated the collaboration between the business and the art of football,” said Folwell. “For this reason, I was compelled to conceptually portray the team owner in a suit as the center on the team, building the roster of players around him.” Folwell channels her own intense energy through a very intricate process called lost-wax casting in which a duplicate metal sculpture is cast from an original and then personally hand-crafted into a clay model. She estimates that the original model took approximately 200 hours to create, with the finished work taking six months to finish. The public is welcome to attend the free unveiling event, but reservations are requested at www.artsinstark.com/eleven or 330-453-1075.

Money Magazine released what it has determined to be the definitive list of our nation’s colleges and universities that deliver the best value, with Malone University ranked among the top – and one of only two Stark County universities to appear on the list. Of the 736 universities named a best value, Malone is ranked #399. Money Magazine examined a number of factors within three major categories – quality of education, affordability, and outcomes in the form of alumni earnings. “This is an extraordinary third-party endorsement of the value provided by a Malone University education,” said Malone President David King. “The methodology used by Money takes into account how students are transformed during their four years in college and where they are launched based on their curricular and co-curricular experiences. Our graduates find employment in their area of interest and quickly find themselves in leadership roles.” Day Ketterer is excited to announce it has established a new office in downtown Akron with the addition of Brunsdon Law, an affiliate of Day Ketterer Ltd. The new office, located in downtown Akron at Canal Place, 520 South Main, is the firm’s fifth location, adding to existing locations in Canton, Hudson, Toledo, and Youngstown. Terri Brunsdon, together with attorney Ashley Raimondo, have joined Day Ketterer in the practice of law and will provide sophisticated tax advice to the firm’s clients. The Northeast Ohio Medical University and Stark State College signed a formal agreement Wednesday, July 22, to collaborate in several ways, creating seamless pathways for students to successfully complete an associate’s

degree at the College, leverage existing NEOMED-affiliated pipeline programs and transition to health professions degree programs at the University. The Occupational Health and Safety Administration recently granted the Navarre, Ohio, Peoples Cartage, Inc. location membership into the Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP). Peoples Cartage, Inc. consists of 162,000 square feet and offers racked, as well as floor storage. The facility provides food-grade storage areas, repacking services and an on-site fleet of dry bulk and dry van equipment. The duration of the membership lasts until May 14, 2017. Small house-shaped coin boxes have appeared in area businesses and organizations offering everyone a way to pitch in to help provide free groceries to the one in six county residents struggling to put food on the table. Residents are asked to look for the Hunger at Home Campaign donation boxes, provided as an easy, convenient way to share their change or make a donation to help their neighbors confronting a hunger crisis. “We rely on the generosity of our neighbors including individuals, corporations, businesses, civic groups, churches and foundations to support our mission of alleviating hunger at home – in Stark County,” said Amy Weisbrod, Stark County Hunger Task Force executive director.
