OIL & GAS MARCH Oil and Gas News Many oil and gas drilling companies are planning to spend less on drilling programs in the Utica shale in 2015. The low price of gas on the market is a major reason why.

How long will this exploration slowdown last? Other than to report their spending plans to investors, many exploration and production companies are not saying much. However, the Utica remains a great place to produce energy in the long term. If your business depends on serving oil and gas exploration, or it depends on figuring out what is coming next in the Utica, you need good information. Our goal is to supply it to you.

Our Utica Upstream Seminar, April 8 at Walsh University, is featuring expert observers of the Utica exploration to tell you what they think will happen.

We have two more experts to add to the agenda for Utica upstream on April 8, and we are recruiting more.

Joining us at the seminar will be Dr. Jeffrey Dick, a geologist and professor at Youngstown State University as well as a private consultant to the energy industry. Dick’s study of the upstream activity makes him a speaker that many organizations want to hear. He will be giving his first presentation in Canton.

ENSHRINEMENT FESTIVAL Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival Names Committee Chairs The Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival department of Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce has named the following committee chairs: Gary Bradway, Communications; Barbara Bennett, General Chairman Alumni Association; Ron Dougherty, Safety Management; Michele Shaffer, Security & Logistics; Diane Novak, Special Services; and Vicky Sterling, Steering.

Bradway is retired from The Timken Company but continues to stay active in the community and at Christ The Servant Parish. He has served the Enshrinement Festival as a parade marshal and pop booth captain, as well as vice chairman of the Communications Committee in 2013 and 2014, with this his first year as chairman. He and his wife are the proud parents of one son and one daughter.

Bradway and his vice chairman Donna Shadle will join with the committee in assuming responsibility for communications equipment utilized at all Enshrinement Festival events, as well as serving as a clearinghouse for inquiries from guests, patrons and media.

Bennett was the 2009 general chairman of the Enshrinement Festival and 2004 chairman of the board of trustees of the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce. A 1990 graduate of Leadership Stark County, she serves on the Walsh University board of advisors, Aultman Health Foundation board, and Ohio Rail Development Commission. She is currently director of administrative services for Muskingum Water Shed Conservancy District. Bennett resides in North Canton with her two children and husband Keith. The Alumni Association, a committee comprised of past general chairmen, many of whom will offer assistance to the Enshrinement Festival in the areas of sponsor recognition, promoting community awareness and support in planning and producing Enshrinement Festival events.

of various Enshrinement Festival activities since its beginning in 1963, and is serving his 21st term as chairman of the Safety Management committee. He also serves as chairman of the Joint Coordinating Committee that serves as liaison between the Enshrinement Festival department of the Chamber and the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He is the only Stark County lawyer to hold the office of president of the Ohio State Bar Foundation, and the only Stark County lawyer or judge to ever receive the Foundation’s Ritter Award in 2012, its highest award given to one lawyer or judge each year. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, where he also served as Interim Executive Director and Chairman of the Board. He has one daughter, one son, and three grandsons.

Shaffer is a principal within the Louisville City Schools and has been honored as a Stark County Person of Character, recognized by the Louisville Chamber of Commerce as a School Employee of the Year, and is proud that her school has been recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School. She is a member of the Ohio Association of Elementary Principals Association, Louisville Kiwanis, Diversity Team for Louisville Schools, Eastern Stark Legacy Chapter #596, and Delta Kappa Gamma, Delta Upsilon. She serves as vice president of the Board of the Louisville YMCA. The Security & Logistics committee helps to maintain the safety at many of the events by monitoring movement of people and delivery of goods and services. Serving as vice chairman of the Security & Logistics committee is Doug Froelich.

She is extensively involved in community activities, serving on committees for a wide array of entities including, Aultman Hospital Women’s Board and Angel Auction, and Wilderness Center. She and husband Joe are the proud parents of a daughter and son.

The Special Services Committee assists many of the event committees with varied duties, including media and sponsor hospitality, registration, transportation, and hosting. Assisting Novak with committee duties is vice chairman Jerry Gilin.

Sterling, vice president of sales and marketing for Pinnacle Press, served as 2014 General Chairman.

Previously, she chaired the Ribs Burnoff Committee and served on the security committees for the Balloon Classic and Enshrinement Ceremony. She is a past

recipient of the Chamber’s Community Salute Award of Merit, Canton Advertising Federation’s Ad Person of the Year, and Junior League Woman of the Year.

The Steering Committee assists and facilitates as needed to successfully accomplish the Enshrinement Festival mission statement and goals and approves critical Enshrinement Festival issues, such as annual budget, ticket pricing changes and policy issues.

Deadline nearing for PFHOFEF Queen Pageant Applications Don’t miss the opportunity to compete in the prestigious Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival Queen Pageant.

The completed application and a $70 fee must be received by the Enshrinement Festival department at the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce no later than 5 p.m. on Monday, March 9.

The Queen Pageant on Thursday, May 7 will begin at 7 p.m. at The Canton Palace Theatre. All seats are reserved at $20 each, and tickets can be purchased at the Canton Regional Chamber, and online at www.ProFootballHOFEF.com/Queen Pageant.

At the conclusion of the Pageant, a Queen and five court members will have been selected on the basis of personality,

poise, beauty, communication skills, academic achievement and service to community. The Queen and her court will serve as role models and goodwill ambassadors throughout the community, volunteering their time to a wide variety of civic organizations.

BIZ BITZ Congratulations to Canton resident, Janay Johnson, food & nutrition services, for being named Mercy Medical Center’s Star Performer of the Year for 2014. The Star Performer program is the hospital’s employee recognition and rewards program.

Hospital employees, volunteers and staff are nominated each month for demonstrating outstanding performance, being a team player, going “above and beyond”, being creative and innovative and championing service excellence. Johnson was chosen as the Star Performer of the Month last March, and was recently selected from the 2014 candidates as the overall Star Performer of the Year. Johnson was nominated for going far beyond the scope of her job duties to help a patient’s family member in need. Her keen awareness and quick action led to immediate medical attention for a hospital visitor who was in dire medical distress. Johnson’s actions most likely saved this visitor’s life. She has been an employee at Mercy since 2005 and was presented with her award by Thomas E. Cecconi, president & CEO, at Mercy Medical Center.

Jim Tressel, president of Youngstown State University and head coach of The Ohio State University 2002 National Champion football team will be the featured speaker at the Men’s Challenge Fundraising Kick-Off Dinner, March 12 at the McKinley Grand Hotel in downtown Canton. Men’s Challenge is a Christ-based 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization that addresses root causes of poverty by assisting “unemployable” men to achieve sustainable employment. Now celebrating their third year of existence, Men’s Challenge has had over 750 men participate in their program. Originating in Alliance the impact of Men’s Challenge was expanded last year when they opened a new office in Canton.

The response has been phenomenal, said Dustin Burgess, who is the 2015 Fundraising Campaign Chairman for Men’s Challenge.

Other stage performances include the Canton Ballet, the Plain Local School District Chorus, WeJoySing and the Arts Academy at Summit. Admission to the Canton Museum of Art is also free and the site of an enticing scavenger hunt focused on their current exhibit of the works of Ferdinand Brader.

The Canton Symphony Orchestra gets in the act by inviting kids to be a guest conductor.

The Massillon Museum will be doing an interactive pendulum painting project, while BZTAT leads a community art project.

Volunteers from Nationwide Insurance will be face painting ingenious designs. Albert Einstein – America’s favorite genius – will be making a guest appearance and of course, posing for photo ops. And, everyone will be able to capture their own genius-in-action at Red Couch Laboratories’ smart and sassy photo booth.

The Stark County District Library and the Canton Symphony Orchestra are offering two collaborative events for patrons of all ages. Listen at the Library offers a chance for

children and their parents to interact with a trio of musicians from the Canton Symphony Orchestra. Stories will be read aloud and musicians will play accompanying music.

Children will have the opportunity to ask questions about the songs and instruments.

This is a wonderful way for parents to introduce their children to orchestral music.

Sundays with the Symphony are orchestral performances for patrons of all ages. A trio of musicians from the Canton Symphony Orchestra will perform a set of pieces and will allow time for an audience question and answer session. Walsh University has announced the appointment of Brian Greenwell to the newly created position of vice president for Administration, effective July 1, 2015. In his new position, Greenwell will be responsible for the Information Technology strategy of the University, management of IT resources, support eLearning programming, and the cyber and physical security of Walsh’s campuses. In addition, Greenwell will take the lead role in the strategic planning and architectural design of Walsh’s new academic learning center. He will continue to direct the operation of the Information Technology Department, which includes infrastructure, applications, customer support, telecommunications and technical services. Greenwell brings more than 25 years of experience to this position and most recently served as Walsh’s Chief Information Officer, where he directed the strategy and management of the Information Technology department. In addition, from 2009 to 2014, Greenwell held the positions of Director of Infrastructure and Customer Service Center Manager.

The Aultman Foundation is accepting 2015 grant applications Feb. 23 through March 13 from 501(c) 3 non-profit organizations with projects focusing on wellness, health education and human services. Special consideration is given to proposed projects and services that focus on the underserved, especially the poor, elderly and children.

Proposed projects or services must impact the communities served by Aultman Health Foundation, which includes Stark, Wayne, Holmes, Carroll and Tuscarawas counties.

The Aultman Foundation does not fund individuals, capital campaigns, annual campaigns, foundations, endowments or government entities. Application cover sheets and checklists (required) are available for download at www.aultmanfoundation.
