OIL & GAS Oil and Gas News | August 2016 Carroll County Energy, the gas-fired power plant being built by Bechtel Corp for Advanced Power, will bring the economic benefits of an $899 million construction project to Carrollton. It also will bring educational benefits to Carroll County school children for generations to come. Advanced Power, headquartered in Switzerland with U.S. offices in Boston, is providing $38 million in local funding for construction of a new elementary, middle and high school on one campus for the Carrollton Exempted Village School District. According to the Carrollton Free Press-Standard newspaper, Advanced Power and the school district have negotiated a payment schedule of $1.3 million over 30 years to cover the school district’s 61 percent share of the project. Carroll County Energy is one of two gas-fired power plants that Advanced Power is going to build in northern Utica Shale counties. The other is South Field Energy in Wellsville, Columbiana County. Advanced Power’s senior vice president for development, Jonathan Winslow, spoke about both projects at our Utica Summit III oil and gas seminar in October 2015.

Energy Future-Lordstown will develop a 949-megawatt power plant. Gas-fired power plants are attractive because they emit about half the carbon dioxide of coal-fired power plants. Natural gas is often called the bridge-fuel to a greener energy supply. Its critics say that methane, which is most of what natural gas is at the burner tip, is even more dangerous to the atmosphere than carbon dioxide, which is why the control of methane leaks in exploration and product, in transportation and in end use is of great concern to environmentalists, government policy makers and the energy industry.

UPCOMING EVENTS Utica Summit IV - Location Update and Speakers to Date The new Embassy Suites by Hilton Akron Canton Airport in North Canton will be the site of Utica Summit IV, our final oil and gas seminar of the year. The date is Oct. 11. Utica Summit is our downstream seminar. By that, we mean a seminar on the ultimate use of the energy being discovered in the Utica Shale. It could be to produce petrochemicals for the plastics industry. It could be to fuel transportation. It could be to create electricity or fuel the furnaces of industry. It could be to heat homes in distant states. Dr. Iryna Lendel, PhD, an economist at Cleveland State University who studies the Utica, has said of our seminars: “The seminars provide access to the most current state of the Utica play, which is especially dynamic, particularly in the low-price environment.”
If you have interest in plastics and chemicals, transportation fuels, powers, or overall manufacturing advantages derived from Utica’s abundant energy, you will want to attend. Register early. Out last midstream seminar in June sold out. For registration and questions, go online to UticaSummit.com or contact Dave Kaminski (330) 458-2059, davidk@ cantonchamber.org. Speakers to date include: Joe C. Eddy is President/CEO of Eagle Manufacturing, which produces more than 750 industrial safety and materialshandling products, many of them from high-density polyethylene. He is an advocate for regional ethane crackers that would create polyethylene Tom Gellrich returns for a fourth year to Utica Summit to explain why Shell’s historic decision to build an ethane cracker in Beaver County, Pa., is just the tip of the iceberg in downstream investments in the Appalachian Basin. These investments, made possible by the shale gas revolution, will transform the Basin for decades to come. Charlie Riedl, executive director of CLNG, will talk about how the capability of exporting or importing LNG, based on changing market conditions, will help to moderate the swings in gas prices seen in the past, create new jobs for Americans, and help grow the U.S. economy.
We want to thank the Pro Football Hall of Fame and President David Baker for allowing us to make the Hall of Fame our location for Utica Upstream in April and Utica Midstream in June. Because of the revival of interest in Utica business opportunities, we have had to find a bigger venue for Utica Summit. We look forward to seeing you at the Canton area’s newest and largest hotel.

ENSHRINEMENT FESTIVAL Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival Announces Emcees The Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival is pleased to announce emcees for the Fashion Show Luncheon on Friday, August 5, The Canton Repository Grand Parade on Saturday, August 6, and Enshrinees GameDay Roundtable on Sunday, August 7. Stefani Schaefer, co-anchor of Fox 8 News in the Morning, will emcee this year’s Fashion Show Luncheon on Friday, August 5, and it promises to be a high energy production. An Alliance native, she is a graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas High School and University of Mount Union where she was an All-American Scholar and a National Collegiate Academic Honoree. While in high school, she was a featured vocalist for the Enshrinement ceremonies and she has sung the National Anthem for the Game, so she truly has a soft spot in her heart for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. She first started at WJW Fox 8 in Cleveland in 1992, then took a hiatus to pursue other opportunities including hosting a national network show broadcast out of Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida. In 2007, she returned to WJW Fox 8, and in 2008, she was inducted into the Broadcasters Hall of Fame. In 2012, she was named Cleveland’s Favorite News Anchor and Favorite News Team. Football and fashion might seem like an unlikely mix, but it’s a perfect fit for the nearly 3,200 guests who enjoy the event that includes state-of-the-art sound, lighting, and video to showcase male and female models featuring the season’s hottest fashions. An exclusive bridal scene will be an exciting element in this year’s show, and the fashions will be enhanced by the excitement of several performances including the Constellation Performing Arts Dancers, American Commodore Dancers, and wheel gymnasts from CirquesExperience. Great tickets are still available by calling the Chamber at (330) 458-2048.
Early the next morning on Saturday, August 6, Schaefer will join Todd Porter as cocommentators for The Canton Repository Grand Parade. Porter was born and raised in Stark County and has extensively covered Stark County’s affinity for high school football. He has been on staff at The Canton Repository since 1991, during which time he has been named Associated Press Ohio Sports Writer of the Year multiple times. He was a triple-crown winner in the 2013 Ohio Associated Press Media Editors contest, taking first place honors in column writing, enterprise, and breaking news. He is currently Special Projects Editor, overseeing the newspaper special event and section coverage, particularly as it relates to Hall of Fame Village. Joe Dunn will be joining the team for the fourth consecutive year as manon-the-street for interviews with the Class of 2016 and many returning Gold Jacket/ Hall of Famers. After a stint with the then-Canton/Stark County Convention & Visitors’ Bureau, he became Director of Sports Marketing at the University of Akron and is currently Vice President of Sales at Big Time Sports, a regional company producing sports talk shows and featuring high school sports coverage.
seats are still available for only $9 by calling the Chamber at (330) 458-2049 or by stopping in at 222 Market Ave. N from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. weekdays. Spectators will be required to show their tickets before being permitted to sit in reserved areas, and this will be strictly enforced. Steve Wyche began his stint covering the NFL in 2005, this time for the Atlanta Journal Constitution, after covering the Dolphins for the Miami Herald in the mid-1990’s. He also covered the NBA for the Washington Post and a variety of other sports in a 25-year career that started in Richmond, VA. In addition to his role as a senior writer for NFL.com, he contributes insider reports and analysis, and moderates panel discussions on NFL Network’s signature show NFL Total Access. He also hosts the network’s Pro Football Hall of Fame specials during the season, after the Super Bowl, and during Enshrinement weekend. The Enshrinees GameDay Roundtable will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 7, and features a center stage roundtable presentation featuring members of the Class of 2016 Enshrinees just hours after their emotional induction ceremonies. The roundtable will feature an unscripted, up close and personal format where they share stories and memories of their careers.
Parade units step off at Sixth St. and Cleveland Ave. SW and move north to 25th St. NW, where they will begin to disband. For Enshrinement Festival and football fans wanting to enjoy the parade, great reserved chair and bleacher

BIZ BITZ Canton Fine Arts Associates, a non-profit affiliate of the Canton Museum of Art, announced its newly elected officers for the upcoming 2016-17 year. Officers include: President--Donna Gilhousen; First VicePresident--Nancy Stewart Matin; Second Vice- President--Sarah Petri; Secretary-Jane France; Treasurer--Carol Hahn Assistant Treasurer--Sue Wise. Canton Fine Arts Associates is dedicated to promoting the visual arts in the area and offers monthly programs on art-related topics from September through May. It also sponsors an annual fundraising event, Christkindl Markt, in early November with all proceeds awarded to the Canton Museum of Art. The 2nd April Galerie, The Art District’s very first art gallery, will be moving out of Canton after 14 years as it follows owners Todd Walburn and Brennis Booth to pursue new opportunities in Cleveland. The gallery, which opened in 2002 with the goal of featuring and selling the work of Stark County artists, has been a mainstay of The Canton Arts District -even before First Fridays were started. Ten years ago there was only one art gallery in downtown Canton. That was 2nd April Galerie. Today there are 26 art galleries and artist studios. Many of those spaces are or have been associated with 2nd April or have grown out of artists who started at 2nd April. As downtown living and tourism continue to grow, ArtsinStark wants to transition 2nd April into an arts gallery space that is ready for the next decade, and continue the legacy that Brennis and Todd have worked so hard to create. To make sure that happens ArtsinStark has signed a new lease with building owner Michael Whitmore so that 324 Cleveland Avenue NW will continue operating as a gallery. “We lit a spark. Now the torch gets carried.” Innis Maggiore adds two, Devon Miller and Patrick French, to their Client Services Team. know we can provide insight and value for this growing city.” The Pro Football Hall of Fame and The Canton Repository announced a threeyear partnership that will designate the paper as the “Official Newspaper of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.” The agreement calls for enhanced marketing and advertising opportunities and special content generated about the Pro Football of Fame. “The Canton Repository has provided great support and coverage of the Pro Football Hall of Fame for more than a half century. The Repository and the Hall of Fame both stand for excellence,” Hall of Fame President David Baker commented. “We are excited to partner with the dedicated team at The Canton Repository who share the Hall’s commitment, passion and vision.” The Canton Repository will be distributed to Hall of Fame guests on a daily basis. The newspaper will be wrapped in a specially created four-page section that shares the latest information about Hall of Fame news, events, and interesting features about the Game. “It is a great honor to announce this heightened partnership with the Pro Football Hall of Fame,” said Publisher James Porter. “We are incredibly proud to partner with an organization of excellence like the Hall, and we look forward to working together during this exciting time for the Hall and our region.”
