R Define Your Marketing Goals:
Get started by reevaluating and clearly defining your marketing objectives. Whether you’re aiming to increase brand awareness, generate leads, drive sales, or enhance customer loyalty, using the SMART method to set specific, measurable goals provides clarity and direction for your marketing efforts.
R Analyze Your Target Audience:
Understanding your target audience is crucial for successful marketing. Conducting thorough market research to analyze their demographics, preferences, and behaviors will allow you to effectively tailor your messaging and campaigns.

R Refine Your Content Strategy:
Content marketing is a powerful tool for attracting, engaging, and converting leads. Review your content marketing efforts. Evaluate the types of content you produce, such as blog posts, videos, or podcasts, and their effectiveness. Ensure your content provides value, solves customer pain points, and aligns with your brand voice.

Ask SCORE: How Do I Protect My Business from Hackers?
They say a chain’s only as strong as its weakest link, an apt metaphor for cybersecurity: Your company’s security is only as strong as its most vulnerable element. That’s why successfully protecting your business from hackers requires a multipronged approach that touches on every moving part in your digital ecosystem.
The advice below will help you develop a comprehensive cybersecurity strategy to create a shell of safety around your small business.
INVEST TIME AND MONEY IN CYBERSECURITY
Preventing hackers from damaging your company should be one of your highest priorities, which means you should commit the time and money needed to fully address this aspect of your business. You will need to pay for high-quality security software, spend the time to conduct comprehensive staff training and invest in a consultant or full-time IT staff member who is responsible for maintaining cybersecurity.
BRING YOUR TEAM ALONG
Some of the security measures you implement, such as regularly changing passwords and keeping a vigilant watch for suspicious email, will need your staff’s active participation. Bring them along on the journey of improving your cybersecurity by being transparent about your plans, asking for their input and feedback, and providing clear and comprehensive training about anything you want them to do.
EMPLOY ANTIVIRUS SOFTWARE
Install a high-quality antivirus software on your company’s computers to ward off malware and computer viruses, which hackers can use to gain access to your systems and data. Remember to have staff put the software on any computers they use to tap into your network from home.
CHANGE PASSWORDS REGULARLY
Changing passwords regularly is a simple task but a powerful deterrent to cyberattacks. It’s likely your employees will either resist doing this or forget to execute it at the right times, so it is a good idea to set up your system so it prompts them to make the change at regular intervals.
PRIORITIZE TRUST FOR EMAIL ATTACHMENTS AND LINKS
Make it particularly clear to your staff that they should consider email attachments and links in emails to be suspicious and potentially harmful unless they trust the source of the email. Set up an email address where they can forward suspicious communications and seek out advice about whether to trust a particular email or not.
IMPLEMENT TWO-FACTOR AUTHENTICATION
Two-factor authentication, or 2FA, is a way for a computer system to have users confirm their identity in order to log in. To access the system, a user needs both their password and a code that is automatically sent to their email address or phone. This tool is particularly powerful in preventing hacking, so it’s a good idea to include it in your cybersecurity protocols.
USE TOKENIZATION
Retailers who are making sales online can reduce their exposure to cyberattacks and data breaches by using tokenization. This is a process in which a payment processor uses a unique, random code to stand in for a customer’s credit card information in processing a transaction. By using tokenization, merchants can avoid handling and storing customers’ sensitive data, reducing their vulnerability and exposure to cyberattacks.
DO REGULAR CHECKS OF YOUR SYSTEMS
Maintaining good cybersecurity is an ongoing process, one that it’s important to stay on top of due to how fast technology changes. Keep all your software up-to-date via regular, automatic checks. While antivirus software should always be working in the background, you should also be doing manual scans of your systems’ functioning and who is accessing them from where. Check any suspicious or unauthorized activities and keep any eye out for any vulnerabilities that need to be corrected.

2024 Civics Bee
On April 13, the Chamber hosted its second annual chapter of the National Civics Bee. The National Civics Bee is a competition that encourages young Americans to engage in civics and contribute to their communities. Local middle school students began by entering a local essay competition. Judges from the community then selected the top 10 finalists to participate in a quiz event hosted by Walsh University that tested their civics knowledge. The top 3 winners from our local competition were awarded cash prizes and the opportunity to advance to the same type of competition at the state level in Columbus. The firstplace winner from the state will then advance to a national competition hosted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation in Washington, D.C.
The Canton Regional Chamber celebrates the following top 10 finalists: Shuvna Adhikari, Grace Hollstein, Kush Kenjale, Aarit Koul, Queenta Kwachuh, Mykim Nguyen, Destiny Nshimiye, Zora Pavichevich, Madison Stonestreet, and Ava Tester.
These students exhibited their exceptional grasp of civics concepts and their visionary ideas regarding local civic needs and potential solutions through their essay submissions. They then further proved their knowledge during our competition at Walsh. After being quizzed on various civics topics, our top five quiz-scorers – Kush Kenjale, Aarit Koul, Mykim Nguyen, Destiny Nshimiye, and Madison Stonestreet – presented their essays to judges and responded to questions about their chosen topics. Of our final five, the top three presenters were selected as our winners!
1st Place: Aarit Koul
2nd Place: Destiny Nshimiye
3rd Place: Kush Kenjale
These three outstanding students will have the chance to compete at the state level this summer. As we wish them the best and cheer them on from afar, we also must celebrate all the students that submitted essays, came to our competition, and supported our efforts. We also acknowledge and express our greatest gratitude for the educators, families, and
friends that support these and all students in our community. The future is in the hands of our youth, and their ingenuity, drive, enthusiasm, and wisdom remind us of how bright that future will be.

Contractor safety
Contractors provide a number of services for companies including building renovations, electrical work, machine maintenance, new building additions and machine installation. With these services, it is paramount that both the contractor and host employer take the necessary precautions to keep all employees safe during these activities. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) suggests that safety is a two-way street when working with contractors. This means the responsibility falls on both parties. Safety is elevated when employers and contractors establish systems to coordinate their efforts and communicate to provide all workers equal protection against hazards. Whether contractors are new to your organization, or you’ve been working with them for years, consider the following practices:
Pre-Qualification and Selection
One way to determine a contractor’s safety level is to evaluate their safety records. Safety records will help identify a company’s commitment to safety and may uncover some dangerous practices. Request injury and illness records, injury rates, safety certifications and safety training programs.
Safety Orientation and Training / Worksite Hazard Identification / Emergency Procedures
Collaborate with contractors to identify and assess workplace hazards. Conduct site inspections and risk assessments to mitigate potential risks and ensure a safe work environment. Provide thorough safety orientation and training to contractors before they begin work. It is essential they understand workplace hazards, emergency procedures and proper safety protocols within your facility.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):
Once a worksite hazard evaluation is complete, ensure contractors use appropriate PPE for their tasks. Perform periodic inspections to validate the proper usage of PPE. Promptly address any concerns to your contact if there are issues.
Safety Meetings and Communication:
Depending on the length of the contractor’s project, conduct regular safety meetings. Safety meetings are a great way to discuss safety concerns, updates, changes and best practices. Always encourage open communication channels to address safety issues promptly.
Incident Reporting and Investigation:
Establish clear procedures for reporting and investigating safety incidents involving contractors. Encourage prompt reporting of near misses, injuries or hazardous conditions to prevent future incidents.
Documentation and Record-Keeping:
Maintain accurate records of safety training, orientation, inspections, incidents and contractor compliance documentation. This information is valuable for audits, regulatory compliance and future references. Review the information with your leadership team to discuss potential changes on upcoming projects.
Some other considerations when working with contractors include security / access control, restricted areas, understanding written obligations within the contract / agreement and performance evaluation.
Ensuring contractor safety in the workplace is essential for maintaining a secure and healthy environment for everyone involved. By implementing these measures and fostering a culture of safety, organizations can effectively manage contractor safety in the workplace, protect the well-being of all individuals and mitigate risks associated with contractor activities.
If you need help identifying potential hazards in your workplace, please contact Andy Sawan, risk services specialist at Sedgwick at andrew.sawan@sedgwick.com or 330.819.4728.
The Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce and AultCare have partnered together to o er a healthcare plan for the small business community through a Multiple Employer Welfare Arrangement (MEWA). The MEWA was developed to provide additional options and to help control the costs of healthcare bene ts. Medically underwritten MEWA rates may provide a less expensive option than a smaller community rated plan obtained under the A ordable Care Act (ACA).
