Due to a rapid increase in COVID-19 cases, and for the safety of our guests, speakers, sponsors and staff, we are postponing Utica Downstream to Thursday, Feb. 25, 2021. Attendees may choose to attend in-person or virtually. The conference has always focused on Ohio’s reputation as being the polymer capital of the United States. But this year, the demand from plastics is greater than it has ever been as the result of the virus. Our conference will have experts that will discuss the outlook plastics nationally and in Ohio as well as the most recent initiatives on recycling. Our conference will not be complete without discussing natural gas power plant construction. A number of power plant construction plants were shelved as the result of HB 6. With revelation of fraud and corruption attached to that bill, there is now a move to rescind it. If HB 6 is rescinded it, those cancelled natural gas power plants could see new life. The Utica Downstream Conference will provide the latest information on this topic. Sponsorships are available: please contact Chris Gumpp at (330) 458-2055 or chrisg@ cantonchamber.org. Due to COVID-19 event is subject to change. Please visit our website for updates. Thursday, February 25, 2021 // Registration is now open: www.CantonChamber.org

How Much Is Your Brand Respected? | During the first two decades of the 21st century, more than ever before, businesses have been touting their brands. In doing so many of those businesses have been focusing on brandishing their logos or brandmarks, making them the centerpieces of their public identities. That’s understandable since businesses have invested in creating their logos or brandmarks - often supplemented with taglines - and show them on everything from business cards to website homepages to signage and so on. Too few of those businesses have been sufficiently emphasizing what, in fact, constitutes a brand. It is far more than an icon. Some businesses - both for-profit and non-profit -understand that. They are the
Baker, Dublikar, Beck, Wiley & Mathews attorneys at law
ones that embrace the enduring reality that a brand stands as the composite of innovation, superior product design, quality engineering, manufacturing, attention to detail in all facets, reliability, superior customer or client service, integrity, community involvement and respect. Aggregate all those factors and one sees that a brand, at its core, is reputation. That concept - that reality - is fully embraced by companies that have prospered, weathered difficult economic times, stand the best chance of taking on a range of challenges, and winning the enduring loyalty of customers, employees, suppliers and other valued constituents.

Stark Manufacturing
Workforce Development Partnership Has Launched EDUCATION M E A N S

Our local manufacturers want you to know that manufacturing is alive and well in Stark County and in NE Ohio. Manufacturing is a viable career pathway, and that message is one of the driving forces in the newly created Stark Manufacturing Workforce Development Partnership. Industry Sector Partnerships (ISP) are a proven workforce development strategy that put employers in the driver’s seat and have demonstrated effectiveness across the country. Manufacturers within a regional labor market work together to influence alignment around common solutions with education and training, economic and workforce development, and community organizations.
EDUCATION
We are happy to report that after collective efforts by the M Eand A NSEDB S to B convene U S I Nlocal E S employers, S Chamber, MAGNET a C AWorkforce N TO N R E G Development I O N A L C H A M BPartnership ER Stark Manufacturing has launched. The Ohio Manufacturer’s Association is facilitating early discussions with a group of Stark County thought leaders in manufacturing. In less than two months the group has identified immediate priorities, opportunities and actions that promote manufacturing as a career pathway. The key components of an Industry Sector Partnership (ISP) include: • Led by employers – to ensure the system is truly employerled demand-driven and will lead to better outcomes for individuals. • Focused on a single industry – to allow employers to connect with peers from their own industry, identify needs beyond basic workplace skills, and dive deeply into the technical needs of the industry. • Regional – to address unique needs of subsectors while reflecting the true dynamics within a regional economy. • Convened by a neutral intermediary – to align all relevant partner programs and resources as solutions to identified industry needs. The graphic at the top of the page depicts the elements of an Industry Sector Partnership (ISP). The Stark Manufacturing Partnership will reach out to education, training, community and workforce organizations in the coming weeks and months to initiate, strengthen and augment these strategic partnerships in order to build a robust manufacturing talent pipeline system. Get to know the young professionals who will shape the future of Canton/Stark County! Each month, we’ll introduce you to a YP who is living or working, but most importantly, thriving in Stark County! Name: Bayley A. Porter Occupation/Title/Place of work: Coordinator, Partnerships and Events Hall of Fame Village powered by Johnson Controls Age: 23 Why are you interested in Stark County’s Young Professionals initiative? I feel this is a great way to make connections with other people in my community and learn more about the companies they work for.
joining organizations. Meeting new people is never a bad thing. I truly believe you learn something important from every person you meet. What would attract more YPs to Stark County? More activities that can get young professionals out into the community. Something that will get them involved with the area and learn how special this area truly is. What do you do in the evenings or on the weekends for fun in Stark County or NE Ohio? One of my favorite events is the First Friday. I love the atmosphere and being in the heart of downtown Canton with friends and family. Could you see yourself spending your lifetime in Stark County and if not, what would cause you to leave? I see myself spending my lifetime in Stark County. Staying close to friends and family is so important to me and I see this county as my forever home. Even when I was away for college coming back to Stark County was always the plan.
What would you share to encourage other people to join? I would share how important it is to make connections within your community and how important it is to get involved. Did you grow up in Stark? If so, where? If not, where did you move from and why? Yes, born and raised here in Stark County. Why do you stay in Stark County, from both a personal and professional point of view? My entire family lives here in Stark County. Family is the most important thing for me. My job at Hall of Fame Village powered by Johnson Controls is my dream job and I hope to see the Village develop right in front of my eyes and see it grow everyday. What do you like MOST about Stark County? I love the small town community feeling while being a big area. It is that place that no matter where life takes you, you always return back to Stark County because it is a forever home. What would you change about Stark County if you could? I wish people saw how special this area is. How much character and history Stark County holds. We have so much to offer but people who tend to live here, especially younger generations, cannot wait to leave because they do not see how special Stark County really is and all the opportunities it has to offer. What do you see as valuable opportunities for YPs in Stark County when it comes to career opportunities, cultural access, leadership or community involvement opportunities? Getting involved in any way possible. Whether that be volunteering, or visiting local restaurants or museums, or even
