We’ve been busy planning during these colder months and finally plans will spring to life. The Downtown Canton Summit Neighborhood Community Garden will sprout with preparations for the planting of spring vegetables. Dig in this year at the community ga rden. Likewise, the Canton Farmers’ Market vendors have been busy planning and preparing to make the eighth annual Canton Farmers’ Market the best ever. The Market will bustle about this year, as local vendors bring products made or grown in the area.
We would like to welcome event manager Corleon “CJ” Assent to our team. She’s full of new energy and looks forward to producing these incredible events. We are so very happy to have her on board!
This spring will usher in another full schedule of downtown events. First Friday, while it is a yearround event will surely fill the streets, venues and art galleries with those that want to see or be seen. While First Friday really packs a punch, you’ll find that there is more and more going on throughout the month. Be sure to come back and experience what downtown has to offer the other 29 days on each calendar page.
Doing business downtown offers a high energy, synergistic experience in the unique place that serves as heart and soul of the city. Downtown Canton, like a garden, has room for growth, a work in progress that bears delicious fruit. While all year there are many elements that are incredible sources of entertainment and fun, the summer brings the bounty and this year we are gearing up for a grand time, with fruits ripe for the picking.
The Canton Development Partnership is excited to announce dates for the major Chamber events: Taste of Canton (May 26), Canton Blues Festival (June 10 & 11), Zing in the City (June 29), Vintage Canton (Sept. 15) and Light Up Downtown (December 1).
Get out, stretch your legs, and visit downtown retailers, restaurants, businesses and artists. Make good on your New Years’ resolutions and commit to healthier living and strengthen your commitment to supporting all things local.
Look forward to some new programming, too. We are committed to making our downtown a great place to work, play, and live!

(continued from cover) Don’t be fooled by the name “Pete’s Pizza and Grill.” While you’ll certainly get your fill of gourmet pizza, Pete’s is a surprising blend of tastes that will challenge what you’ve come to expect in downtown dining. Greek food fans will be pleased to see a solid souvlakia menu, complete with shish kabobs of filet, chicken, lamb and scallops, and saganaki, a flaming cheese appetizer lit on fire tableside for bold diners. They also boast an extensive tapas menu, pasta and traditional steaks and chops.

Diners will find that the intimate dining room reflects the diverse menu. Columns and plaster that mimic ruins long forgotten are splashed with modern, urban, and distinctly Asian elements. The front of house includes cozy lounge seating and exposed brick original to the building, but that’s nothing compared to the real draw of the location – a 4,000 sq. ft., enclosed stone patio, set for live music and mingling throughout the evenings.
