Canton Blues Fest The Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce that the Canton Blues Fest will be returning for its 21st year! The one-day fest will be jam packed with performers, featuring acclaimed artist, Annika Chambers. Following First Friday, Canton Blues Fest will cap a weekend of music at Centennial Plaza in Downtown Canton.

Annika Chambers will take the stage on Saturday, June 4 at 9:30 p.m., and the opening act at 7:30 p.m. will be Gary Lee & The CatDaddy’s. The Jake Friel Band will perform at 6 p.m.

ANNIKA CHAMBERS Like so many powerful vocal artists, can trace her love of music back to early childhood. “I grew up singing in the church,” she says. Not that she had to tell us. Citing the gospel influences of Yolanda Adams, Shirley Caesar, Dottie Peoples and Whitney Houston, you can’t help but feel the Spirit moving through the entire room when Annika throws herself into the heart of a song. But it was during her two tours of duty in the US Army that Chambers realized the gift she had. “One of my colonels heard me singing, and he said, ‘Why don’t you sing the Anthem for one of our ceremonies?’” She was an immediate hit and became their first choice for all their music events, joining the gospel choir and even winning the talent show on her base. From there, Chambers became part of a touring band making the rounds through Kosovo and Iraq, providing a welcome lift for the troops’ morale. She also planned special

events, concerts, dances and karaoke nights, always doing her part to infuse the good time music into their lives.

Returning to Houston in 2011 brought the creation of Annika Chambers and The House Rules Band. Audiences loved their combination of blues and soul and started paying attention to that powerhouse voice behind the microphone. Among her admirers was bassist Larry Fulcher (2012 inductee to the Blues Hall of Fame) and producer/musician Richard Cagle of Montrose Records. By the end of 2014, Chambers’ debut album, “Making My Mark”, was climbing blues charts across the US and Europe. Her meteoric success and rising attention brought Annika Chambers the coveted nomination for 2015 BMA (Blues Music Award) “Best New Artist 2015”.

Her sophomore release, “Wild & Free”, did not disappoint, with a debut at #7 on the Billboard Blues chart! Building on her success, Chambers used this opportunity to showcase her ever-improving abilities to sing across multiple musical genres. The word continues to spread on this rising star as festivals from South America, Europe and right in her own backyard (Minnesota Bayfront Blues Festival, Las Vegas Blues Bender, Gloucester Blues Festival, Mississippi Delta Blues Festival)race to feature Annika Chambers in their lineup.

Six Tips for Talking About Your Business With Anyone HERE ARE 6 TIPS TO HELP YOU TELL YOUR STORY WITHOUT LOSING ANYONE’S INTEREST. 1. The Problem Talk about the problem that the business is solving.

For example, if you have a cupcake business, you might say, “you know how hard it is to find good cupcakes in this area?”

Then you might say, “I started a cupcake business in this area to solve that problem.”

This establishes a true purpose for your business.

2. Who has the problem?

Now let’s talk about the people that have the problem.

Your next goal is to get as many people as you can to take action by going to your site, stopping by your location or scheduling a time to talk further.

Bonus Tip: If someone says that they would like to talk with you another time, get out your phone, and try your best to get it scheduled right now. Don’t wait!

Clean Hydrogen: Here Comes the BOOM! Until recently, thoughts of hydrogen (which were few and far between) triggered memories of a Cold War childhood and the destructive power of the H-bomb. These days, I think instead of the economic boom that a clean hydrogen hub could ignite in our region.

the feedstock for producing hydrogen and be located in areas rich in natural gas resources. The hubs must also be located in regions with the manufacturing, power generation, transportation and workforce capabilities to capitalize on this emerging energy source.

What is clean hydrogen? It’s a fuel source that can power everything from electricity generation to vehicles while reducing our carbon footprint, and its economic potential is enormous. Experts at the U.S. Department of Energy predict clean hydrogen will become a $700 billion industry employing hundreds of thousands of workers in the United States over the coming decades.

These factors bode well for Ohio’s chances to attract one of the four national hubs.

The Utica Shale is among the nation’s most significant regions of natural gas resources and production. Additionally, SARTA is a global leader in the adoption of hydrogen fuel in transportation, and our state and regional economy is home to many industries that can make use of hydrogen power in their operations.

This potential is what prompted Congress to include $8 billion in the bipartisan infrastructure bill to fund the creation of four clean hydrogen hubs across the country. The legislation stipulates that two of the hubs must use natural gas as

to land a clean hydrogen hub and the roughly $2 billion of federal investment that will accompany it. In March, we submitted a response to the Energy Department’s Request for Information in support of the Alliance’s efforts, and we expect the federal application process to begin in May. The Alliance has also begun coordinating with counterpart organizations in Pennsylvania and West Virginia, as a multi-state approach could be crucial to a successful application for federal dollars.

While much remains to be seen, the economic impact of a clean hydrogen hub in our state and region could be massive.

Your Canton Regional Chamber will continue our efforts to bring this potential economic boom to our businesses and communities.

Oh, the Places You Will Go! | EDUCATION UPDATE Oh, the places you will go! This endearing exclamation from Dr. Seuss is the common graduation battle cry for family and friends of recent graduates. But where will our 4,200 Stark County high school graduates go?

must offer a career pathway. Showing a new employee there is a way to advance in an organization and grow in Stark County may be a differentiator from another business just looking to fill an open position.

Some students learned a trade or skill through one of our 6 excellent Stark County career tech schools and have already been connected with local businesses through apprenticeships or work ready programs. Some students prepared to pursue a two-year or four-year degree in something that translates into a viable career pathway. But there are over 1,000 graduating seniors that are not on either of these paths.

To assist our young adults, the Stark Education Partnership is collecting contact information from our graduating seniors.

These young adults need encouragement, guidance, and networking as they find their way how to actively participate in our local economy. How can our local businesses help?

With a very tight labor market employers cannot just offer a job to a graduate – they

Stark County Minority Business Association EXPANDING RESOURCES FOR ALL (ERA) | MAY 2022 The Stark County Minority Business Association is launching their second cohort for their Expanding Resources for All (ERA) program. With support from The City of Canton and the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce, this 4-month program is designed to help small businesses expand and provide opportunities for these businesses to thrive and grow. 18 businesses were picked to receive a $4,000 grant to help their businesses, learn through workshops, and participate in a mentorship program with 18 qualified business leaders in the community. Entrepreneurs will be given the chance to learn about how to effectively run their business from various business experts. The topics taught will cover business plans, management planning, human resources, marketing strategy, brand strategy, business law, business accounting, and banking relationships.

I have such a passion for Stark County, where I was born and raised. There are so many amazing opportunities in Stark and even more wonderful people. To be part of ystark! means joining a group of likeminded, dedicated, diligent individuals who all share a common goal: bettering ourselves and serving our community.

What would you share to encourage other people to join?

I joined the ystark! Facebook group a few months ago and it has been a constant flow of positivity and encouragement. The YP community is one in which people are valued and supported, and having a group with whom to connect and share ideas is invaluable to young adults.

Did you grow up in Stark? If so, where? If not, where did you move from and why?

Yes! I grew up in North Canton and attended Plain Local Schools.

I currently live in North Canton.

Why do you stay in Stark County, from both a personal and professional point of view?

Stark County is bursting at the seams with opportunities for people of all backgrounds and passions. From the arts to education to a thriving workforce, there is a place for everyone. I knew that if I stayed in Stark County I could find my professional home, right in the place I have called home my entire life.

What do you see as valuable opportunities for YPs in Stark County when it comes to career opportunities, cultural access, leadership or community involvement opportunities?

I have found early in my career that many businesses are open to mentoring young professionals who take an interest in their line of work. There are many opportunities to make connections that may lead to a career. As for cultural access, there are countless open doors for artists and intellectuals across Stark County. These doors are opened through networking and volunteer work, and after one starts getting involved, the doors continue to open. It’s a domino effect.

What would attract more YPs to Stark County?

I would love to see all of the fabulous opportunities for young professionals marketed more. Small businesses, independent firms, and community events alike could be bursting with involvement, as long as the public knows about them. The potential is there, so sharing the details will take it one step further.

What do you do in the evenings or on the weekends for fun in Stark County or NE Ohio?

I love attending community events such as First Friday in Downtown Canton. I am a theatre gal at heart, so you can often find me at performances at the Players Guild Theatre, Carnation City Players, and Avenue Arts Theatre, to name a few. I enjoy checking out local food options like Basil, Twisted Citrus, Game Time, and Eadies Fish House. In the summers, I spend many hours biking the Stark Parks trails, playing tennis at Malone University and Price Park, and paddle boarding on Portage Lakes.

Could you see yourself spending your lifetime in Stark County and if not, what would cause you to leave?

There is nowhere I would rather live than Stark County.

Generations of my family have lived, worked, and thrived here and I plan to continue that legacy. The people, opportunities, arts, and culture make me proud to call Stark County home.

The diversity is the best part of Stark County! At every event, workplace, or educational institution I have attended, I have met tons of people who have taught me about history, trades, cultures, and more. Regardless of what you love to do, you can find it in Stark County. What would you change about Stark County if you could?

The only aspect of Stark County I would change is the weather...

Gust Callas currently serves as Coordinator for the Labor and Employment Practice Area of the Firm. Gervasi Vineyard will be expanding with the addition of a 20,000 square feet project in two structures to be built in the southwest corner of the 55-acre estate.

“Journey has been entertaining its fans for almost 50 years since the band’s founding, and we are thrilled to be working with Hall of Fame Village to bring these members of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame to the Hall of Fame City,” said Jim Porter, president of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. “This Concert for Legends promises to be a memorable experience for fans filling Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium and a spectacular way to close out the Saturday lineup of events for Enshrinement Week Powered by Johnson Controls.”

Tickets for the 2022 Concert for Legends Presented by Ford will go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, April 1, through HOFVillage. com and Ticketmaster.com. Prices range from $59 to $225.

An opening act for the show will be announced in the coming weeks.
