June 7 & 8
Flipping a Fender Stratocaster upside-down, acclaimed singer/songwriter and lefty guitarist Malina Moye will perform at 8:30 p.m. on Friday, June 7. Described as a modern day Renaissance woman, she’s a quadruple threat, carving out her own lane in today’s music scene as one of the few artists in history able to straddle both rock and soul genres. Moye’s musical narrative boasts an impressive resume that includes making history as the first African-American woman to play the National Anthem on guitar at a major sporting event, performing at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and owning her own successful record label. Recently, Jet Magazine praised her as “the highlight of the evening” after she headlined a sold-out concert with Chaka Khan to honor the legendary humanitarian Stevie Wonder.

In early May, the Canton Development Partnership unveiled an updated version of our 2003 Downtown Master Plan. It was certainly prudent to update our existing plan based upon all the radical changes in our local and national economy. Our consultant, Charles Buki of czb LLC, provided his findings and offered recommendations on how to take our downtown to the next level of activity. We look forward to working with our committees, The City of Canton and the community to carry out this dynamic plan. Enjoy the spring and summer months and remember to support our restaurants, retailers and art venues.

4th Street Flea Market coming this June After you spend some time at the Canton Farmers’ Market this summer, take a stroll down Fourth Street for the 4th Street Flea Market! This isn’t your everyday flea market, either. The 4th Street Flea is a weekly gathering of artists, vendors and nostalgia enthusiasts that sell and purchase original artwork, rare collectible items, handmade goods and unearthed vintage treasures. The goal is to feature a variety of vendors selling a vast array of items including vintage clothing, handmade goods, art, toys, comics, records, jewelry, buttons, books, retro collectibles, music instruments, posters, crafts and many one of kind items found throughout the debris of American pop culture from the past and present. The support of patrons and collectors not only helps to keep 100% of the money spent at the 4th Street Flea Market in the local economy, but it also helps fulfill the dreams and goals of artists as they operate both start-ups and sustain small businesses. Visit the Flea Market every Saturday this summer along 4th Street NW, alongside the studios and galleries in the heart of the Canton Arts District. Seeking Vendors! Affordable vendor space for the Flea Market is still available, and starts at just $10 per day. Visit 13thfloorgallery. com for more information or contact Billy Ludwig at (330) 280-1977.
