The project greatly enhances the visitor experience and features a new main entrance and grand lobby, the Ralph Wilson, Jr. Pro Football Research and Preservation Center, a new indoor event center and outdoor event spaces, an expanded museum store and enhancements to the surrounding campus. UPCOMING EVENTS Mental Health and Recovery Services Board of Stark County is receiving an Award of Appreciation for enhancing the welfare of Stark County citizens for outstanding success in service.
Pathway Caring for Children’s activities revolve around their mission to empower children and families to realize their potential and achieve the possibilities of their lives through innovative mental health, foster care and adoption services.
Mental Health and Recovery Services Board has existed as a combined board for five years, and has been in operation as separate boards for over 30 years. MHRSB is universally recognized as one of the most progressive of the mental health boards serving the 88 counties of Ohio.
Foster parents are recruited, qualified and supported by Pathway staff with the goal of being the best parents they can be to abused, neglected and abandoned children.
In 2013 MHRSB took landmark steps by relocating their 32 staff members to new downtown Canton offices, and implementing the first wide-scale Electronic Health Records (EHR) programs, linking mental health patients in Stark County to their medical records. Today, MHRS funds 18 mental health organizations throughout the county to the tune of over $29 million. MHRSB has done the work of maintaining a safety net for the approximately 25% of Stark County residents who suffer from mental health issues. The activities of the organization touch Stark County residents through programs in schools, courts and medical facilities. A brief list of activities that the MHRSB undertakes includes: the Opiate Taskforce, Stark County Anti-Drug Coalition, YOUng People Matter, Project Homeless Connect, Polaris Program, Stark County Drug Court, Annual Drug Take Back Day, Stark County Homeless Hotline, and the Stark County Suicide Prevention Coalition. The organization’s data department, Heartland East Administrative Services, was recognized by Governor Kasich this year as part of «Beyond Boundaries» initiative for good government collaboration. They were also recognized in 2013 by the Ohio Association of County Behavioral Health Authorities for developing a best practice model to bolster the efficiency of the behavioral health system in Stark County, specifically in the area of IT, shared services and marketing. In addition, two clinicians at the Mental Health and Recovery Services Board, Patrice Fetzer and Michelle Boone, were two of only a handful of trainers from across Ohio able to facilitate the T.I.P.S. Model of training for clinical staffs. Mental Health and Recovery Services Board was nominated by Mark Spaner, president of Spaner Marketing Communications.
Pathway Caring for Children is receiving an Award of Appreciation for enhancing the welfare of Stark County citizens through outstanding success in service.
Family Services offers adoptive families, wherever the adoption took place, support groups and education to help weather the storms adoptive families face. The Independent Living staff work with children who will emancipate from foster care at age 18, preparing them for life on their own. The newly dedicated JBridges Learning Center is a permanent home for this program. Mental Health counseling at Pathway began as a service to foster and adoptive children and has grown to meet the needs of the community by offering therapy and counseling in the office as well as in schools in East Canton, Malvern, Minerva and Carrollton. Pathway was nominated by Sue Grabowski, president of Grabowski & Co., and Kari Groh, vice president of communications and PR, The Timken Company.
Progressive Chevrolet is receiving an Award of Appreciation for enhancing the welfare of Stark County citizens through outstanding philanthropy to the community and its causes. The Fourth generation dealership and service center, incorporated in 1937, has been serving the needs of area residents through corporate, personal and employee philanthropy, as well as the creation of fundraising opportunities for local non-profits. Most notably, in 2013, Progressive Chevrolet donated a brand new 2014 Chevy Impala to help Stark County Hunger Task Force fight local hunger. All proceeds from the «Food for the People» car raffle will be donated to the cause of uniting residents in the fight for our most basic need: food. Progressive has also worked to increase awareness of the Task Force’s mission to alleviate hunger in Stark County. Over the past five years, owners Craig and Tim Sanders and Progressive Chevrolet have donated $100,000 to new Salvation Army facility in Massillon, and annually provide vehicles to aid in the logistics of transporting the Salvation Army’s donation kettles. (continued on page 19)
Pathway has been serving the needs of abused, neglected and abandoned children for 40 years. Founded by Jim and Velma Bridges in 1973 with a group home serving five boys, it has evolved and grown to provide foster care, adoption, independent living and mental health services to over 600 children each year.

LEADERSHIP STARK COUNT Y Leadership Stark County Leader Profile Name: Ron Rodak Title: President Company: ASAP! Advertising Specialties and Printing, LLC Leadership Program: Government Leadership Academy (inaugural year) Why did you decide to participate in the program? It was the first year for the program and I thought it sounded like a great way to improve my service. I was already an elected official, serving as a Board of Education member for Louisville City Schools. Describe what you learned about your leadership style during the program: I am a relational type of manager. I believe in investing time in getting to know who I work or serve on committees with. I try to truly understand where others are coming from in order to enhance their best talents, skills and knowledge. By really knowing a person’s background, family life, education and personality, it makes an enormous difference in how you interact with them in a work environment or public service position. How have you used what you learned during the program in your career or in the workplace? First of all, I made so many new friends and connections. That alone made it a success for me. But even better, over the years now I have been able to call on any one of my fellow participants at any time to bounce ideas around or to learn from them. It’s rewarding to be able to call upon these friends and apply their experiences to my situations.
What nonprofit organizations do you serve and in what capacity? I am currently serving on Plain Township Rotary board, Canton Advertising Federation board, and I serve on my church board locally. I have recently finished terms as a board member of the Edgewood Community Center, and I was president and board member for seven years in the state of Ohio for Promotional Products Professionals Association. What is your most significant take-away or memory from the program? That normal, everyday people make great leaders if given the knowledge and skill set to do so. If they serve from the heart, have a passion for a cause, and want to make a difference in whatever that cause is, they truly can! What would you say to someone considering applying to the program? Go for it! You will take away more new insights then you would think and they will help you in all walks of your life. How have you remained involved with Leadership Stark County since your graduation? Attending special events when I can like the annual Golf Outing and social events when they have them. What issues do you think future leaders should focus on? The ones they really care about! If you really care you will get involved. I am a believer in making things happen, not in letting them happen. Everyone can make a difference and big or small they all count.
How has your experience in the program influenced your service and leadership roles in the community? I was elected and served three terms on Louisville School Board, six years as president of the Board. I feel like I was able to make a difference because of what I learned in the Government Academy. My time on the board was exciting as we built new school facilities, honored the past successes, and saw technology become a huge factor in modern education delivery. I only hope that I was a strong leader to all those I interacted with.

YSTARK! Young Professional Profile Name: Nate Davis Age: 23 Occupation/ Title/Place of work: Financial representative at Western & Southern Financial Group Why are you interested Stark County’s Young Professionals initiative? I believe that people our age have a big say in how the future is going to turn out. I am excited that this group is trying to capture that and actively change things for the better. What is your impression of ystark!, what do you think of their events, etc.? I think ystark! is fantastic, it has attracted so many people that are excited about where they live and want to make it better. I love being around that amount of positivity. The events that I have been to have been great, there is something for everyone and if you are willing to get involved you will love it. Where did you grow up? In what cities have you lived and worked? I grew up 30 minutes outside of Boston, Mass. I’ve worked in downtown Boston,
as well as Canton and other small town where I grew up. Why have you chosen to live in Canton? I was able to find a great job here in Canton. I have grown attached to the people here and the community through my time at Malone University. What type of dwelling do you live in? What do you think of the housing choices for YPs in the area? I live in an apartment building. Most of the people I know live in houses or apartments around Malone. What do you like MOST about Canton? I love that there are people here who truly love the city and want to make it the best it can be. I also love going to First Friday, and other seasonal events they have downtown. What do you like LEAST about Canton? Probably the fear of crime, and the “slums” that give Canton a bad name. What are the opportunities for YPs in Canton when it comes to career opportunities, cultural access, leadership or community involvement opportunities? ystark! is a great place to start when it comes to community involvement, also the Canton Regional Chamber and ArtsinStark are great ways for people to get involved in the community.
What’s missing from Canton that would attract more YPs? The “buzz” that bigger cities have, and the feeling that you could come downtown and find something to do at any time. I don’t feel like that is the situation right now, but it’s obviously not an easy fix. What do you do in the evenings or on the weekends for fun in Canton? I love going to First Friday or any event that is being put on downtown. The Fourth Street Concert Series this summer was always a great time. What would you change about Canton if you could? I would love to see some sort of park or grassy area where people can come and hang out for lunch or bring their dogs. It would create a nice, social atmosphere. I would also love to somehow make the living options downtown even more upscale. Could you see yourself spending your lifetime in Canton? Of course. Canton has everything you need and I only see it getting better in the future. I would love to be a part of that future. What would cause you to want to leave Canton? What other cities in the United States would be appealing to you as a home base? Why? I would leave Canton to be closer to friends and family in other parts of Ohio or back in Massachusetts.
We’re playing Santa this holiday season and you can help! | ystark! Yuletide Fest We’re extremely excited to continue our holiday giving with the third annual Yuletide Fest, to be held on Dec. 19 at the Stark County Community Action Agency. The goal of this ystark! special holiday event is to provide 100 new bikes and helmets for underprivileged children in our community. We’re happy to be partnering with a wonderful program, HeadStart, to provide bikes to the kids that they support every day.
To help us reach this goal, we are asking ystark! members for their support of this awesome program.
The newly purchased bikes and helmets will be distributed at a surprise holiday dinner where the littles and bigs will gather to play games and learn about how physical activity can lead to a healthy lifestyle.
We guarantee you will be helping in putting a big smile on the faces of these kids. So, play Santa along with us and donate a little green to this good cause!
This special project is supported by McMichael Chiropractic and The Timken Company.
Visit ystark.org to make a taxdeductible donation to count towards a bike, or contact Eric Smer at erics@ cantonchamber.org for the gender and age of a child so that you can purchase the bike directly. The average cost of a bike is $50.

YSTARK! ystark! receives $10,000 Local Economic Advancement Program grant from AEP Ohio
ystark!, a department of the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce, has received a Local Economic Advancement Program grant from AEP Ohio. The $10,000 grant will aid ystark!, in partnership with ArtsinStark, the County Arts Council, first in conducting a regional survey to identify the percentage of young professionals (YPs) working in Stark County, and then to connect with the identified YPs. The survey will target regional businesses to measure the YP percentage of their workforces, and that sample will be used to estimate YP workforce countywide. Upon completion of the survey, ystark! will conduct outreach tactics, including workplace presentations, professional development events and networking activities to further engage and develop the workforce. The goal is to increase ystark!’s current membership of 1,600 by at least 500 new members. As the membership grows, the overarching objective is to keep these engaged YPs in the area, and help both new and existing businesses recognize Stark County as an innovative and workforce-capable area for doing business. “We appreciate this grant opportunity from AEP Ohio and respect their dedicated support to our region’s economic future,” said ystark! director Eric Smer. “This survey and process are a monumental step in our efforts to

become a leading model of YP networks in Ohio, and to retain our community’s young professionals and reinforce brain gain through the region.” AEP Ohio’s Local Economic Advancement Program grants support projects that promote the retention and attraction of manufacturing jobs and investment. Examples include programs and projects such as retention and expansion surveys, site feasibility studies, retaining existing industries, attracting new industries, conducting special studies, performing research and other creative uses. Grant projects must leverage additional funds from other sources, demonstrate joint participation from more than one group,, and provide benefits to an area or region, according to AEP Ohio program guidelines. The company awards grants of up to $10,000 for eligible projects.

AC-3 FORM Chamber’s Workers’ Compensation Group Rating saves significant premium dollars–submit your AC-3 today It’s time to begin planning for your workers’ compensation future. You are likely receiving information from many companies about their group rating programs, and how much money they can save your business. While they may be able to save you money in the short term, these companies often lack the quality, comprehensive customer service and program stability that helps to ensure continued long-term group rating discounts. If your company is interested in group rating, you should be considering the program that supports your local economy. As a member of the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce, it’s important to note that the Chamber has a partnership with CareWorks Consultants Inc. and the Buckeye Workers’ Compensation Alliance. Our Chamber program is one of the most competitive available. In addition to offering significant premium discounts up to the BWC maximum discount, CareWorks Consultants Inc. provides comprehensive cost control services designed to help maintain your group rating status.
Your Chamber membership may already qualify you for this group rating program. Long-term discounts, high savings, program stability and comprehensive quality services could save you significantly by switching your program to CareWorks Consultants. Any company interested in applying, whether a Chamber member or not, should complete the AC-3 Group Rating Application Form on the next page and return it via fax to Denise Burton, director of membership and sales, at (330) 489-6005. For more information about the Group Rating Program from CareWorks Consultants, please contact Bob Nicoli at (330) 4521050 ext. 14, or Denise Burton at deniseb@cantonchamber.org.

Presented by the Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration, the award is the highest recognition any U.S. entity may receive for supporting export activity. Huntington stands out as the only banking institution among a handful of corporate America’s top companies to receive the award presented at the 51st annual President’s “E” Award Ceremony in Washington D.C. during World Trade Month. Among its most notable contributions to Midwest export expansion, Huntington began offering manufacturers the ability to finance foreign buyers that want to buy American products. The bank also developed an export finance capability by actuating its delegated lending authority under the U.S. Export-Import Bank Working Capital Program. Huntington has provided a mix of international services,
trade services and foreign exchange since the mid-1970s and last received a President’s “E” Award in 1982. Young Truck Sales, Inc., a local truck sales, parts and service dealership, was awarded the Pro Patria Award for the small business category. This award was presented by the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a Department of Defense operational committee. The Pro Patria, an annual award, is given to only three businesses in the state: one small business, one large business, and one public sector organization. Each recipient is scored according to how well they support their active military employees. Accompanying the Pro Patria Award was the Above and Beyond Award, recognizing 30 employers state-wide who have gone above and beyond the legal requirements of maintaining employment for mobilized service members. The architectural firm of John Patrick Picard will be leaving their historic office building on McKinley Avenue to move to new offices in Canton’s central business district this fall. Picard’s firm has resided at 720 McKinley Avenue NW for the past 14 years, and is now planning to expand to more suitable facilities to meet their growing needs. The firm has several options for their new home and has not made a final location decision, but as always the firm is committed to downtown Canton. Mr. Picard will surely miss his labor of love, his beautifully appointed historic office, but is looking forward to a new powerful presence in downtown. On Thursday, Dec. 5, Progressive Chevrolet is hosting the Food for the People Car Raffle from 6 to 9 p.m. The event will begin with a ribbon cutting and the grand reopening of the completely redesigned Progressive Chevrolet showroom and service department.
