Renewal of the contract with EZ Water was tabled by White Haven Borough Council at their May 23 meeting. This would be the second 5-year renewal for the company taking water from the old reservoirs. An automatic increase of 5% in the price per gallon is included in the contract, but council members noted payments so far this year are under the amount budgeted. It was suggested that a higher minimum monthly payment, or a higher percentage might be negotiated. Council is also worried about the condition of the Powerhouse Road the water trucks use to access the water. The contract specifies that EZ Water contribute $1,500 annually toward upkeep, but more work including drainage improvements may be needed this year. The road, and the reservoir, are actually in Foster Township, which in the past has helped with road improvements. EZ Water anticipates taking more water in the future because of its exclusive contract with the new facility being built in Humboldt Industrial Park.

In other business, Sheila Weaver updated council on problems she has been having getting a sewer connection for her development property on west Buffalo Street. The line that would have served the development was abandoned by Aqua in 2009 when Foster Township was added to the sewage treatment system, so it will be necessary to cross under Buffalo Street. Engineer Don Totino reported that the municipal building upgrades are ready for bidding, and can be awarded June 27. Civil complaints were filed on seven delinquent trash accounts. High vegetation citations were issued for 14 properties, most of which are being taken care of. The White Haven Volunteer Fire Company was given permission to close Allegheny Street on June 24 from 2 to 8 p.m. during the Firemen’s Convention activities at St. Patrick’s Parish Center to create an arch with two ladder trucks, and for parking for older members. Council meets next on Monday, June 27, at 7 p.m.
