Lehigh Twp. looking to straighten Grist Mill Road by Seth Isenberg

Lehigh Township supervisors will look to remove the rocks that extend out on Grist Mill, causing a curve in the road into Rockport. The plan is to remove the trees, then cut the rock back and then straighten the road over this winter. The work would also include fixing drainage. A temporary bridge is going to be installed over Indian Run ahead of work by PPL to upgrade their power line. The township would like this bridge to become permanent. For winter roads maintenance, the township has bought a one-ton 4-wheel drive pickup and upgraded its power angle plow unit so it is ready for this season’s storms. Supervisors were unanimous in approving a resolution supporting the fair funding of Pennsylvania school districts. In the treasurer’s report, there was income of $8,198, nearly all of that in earned income taxes. Expenses were $13,543. The biggest checks were $6,972 to Lehigh Asphalt Paving for paving Pump House Road, $2,048 to Carbon Engineering, and $1,507 to R.H. Construction. The additions will see their first reviews early in 2022. Another letter was sent to PA State Park officials regarding Leslie Run Road. The Lehigh & Lausanne Fire Company reported making no calls during November. They did hold a CPR and first aid class. Supervisors will meet next on January 3 at 1 p.m. at the township building on Lehigh Gorge Road to reorganize, followed immediately by the regular monthly meeting.
