Kidder Township to look at fire apparatus needs by Seth Isenberg

Larry Dusablon complains to supervisors about the behavior of renters of Short Term Rentals near his home in Towamensing Trails. JPK: Seth Isenberg.

New Dollar General gets Penn Forest Supervisors’ OK by Seth Isenberg In a split vote, supervisors approved the bond and preliminary/final land development plan for the township’s newest Dollar General store, to be built on the eastern edge of the Mt. Pocahontas development off Stony Mountain Road. Judy Knappenberger and Tom Cross were opposed

to all motions regarding this project, with Roger Meckes, Christian Bartulovich and Scott Lignore in favor. The project may begin construction in earnest with this vote. A property in Penn Forest Acres was granted a waiver of its well distance from its septic system, as the new well in several feet closer than the

required 100. A hydrogeologic study says the distance difference is o.k., but the exemption will be posted onto the deed, and the township’s approval assumes no liability. UnderDog Computing was approved to install two new wireless access points and related cable in the township building for a total of $910. See PENN FOREST, page 5

Kidder Supervisors, at their September meeting, made short work of their agenda. As both the Lake Harmony and Albrightsville Fire Companies are looking to replace aging fire equipment, supervisors scheduled a public meeting on September 28 to hear company representatives, and wade into the finances. That meeting begins at 6 p.m. at the municipal building. Lake Harmony needs a tanker/ pumper and Albrightsville’s needs are for an engine/ rescue. Bids arrived and were opened before this meeting for this year’s paving project. Due to be paved are North Lake Drive, Fern Street and Harmony Avenue. Of three bidders, the H&K Group was lowest at $222,880. H&K was awarded the bid, conditioned on all documents are in order and the bid gets approval from the township attorney. Mora Solar, the company proposing the large solar farm on the south edge of Blue Ridge Real Estate property in western Kidder, approached the board for a zoning amendment so that their project can use the

site they want. Supervisors referred them to the planning commission. Mora Solar Inc. submitted a check and will submit application materials for the zoning amendment application. The Exeter Group’s warehouse construction project reached another milestone in constructing improvements to their property. Township engineering firm ARRO confirmed these improvements and that the developers can gain a release of another $6.177 million from their financial security agreement. $7.45 million remains in escrow towards the rest of the improvements. The Mountain Laurel Resort was granted an extension to May 19 of 2022 as the various permits that they have applied for are still going through processing at a handful of agencies. Kidder Police Chief Matt Kuzma thanked the fire companies’ personnel for their help during the bomb threat at Split Rock Lodge on September 1. Kuzma agreed to look into a citizens complaint regarding trespassing and dogs doing their business on See KIDDER, page 6
