Tobyhanna Township adopts short-term rental rules

by Ruth Isenberg After years of discussion, the formation of a committee, and several public meetings, the Tobyhanna Township Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, June 28, adopted a shortterm rental ordinance.

The action took place at the conclusion of a public hearing, held in the Pocono Mountain West High School auditorium and on Zoom. They also adopted an amendment to the township’s zoning ordinance defining short-term rentals and permitting them in

residents. Most objections to the ordinance centered on the limit of 2 persons per bedroom, with maximum occupancy based on septic capacity. Other points of contention included the size of the fines for violations ($1,000 per occurance, with each day without a remedy considered a separate violation). A fine of $1,000 is also included in the ordinance for anyone who submits a knowingly false complaint against a shortterm rental owner.

Many of the comments were generic in nature, and repeats of comments made at previous sessions. Speakers favored setting regulations, but opposed specific parts of these regulations. A few speakers spoke against shortterm rentals in general. One speaker implied that legal action would be forthcoming if the ordinance was adopted.

Testimony was sworn befofre a court reporter, including testimony through Zoom. Following all those who registered presenting their testimony, supervisors went into a 12 minute executive session. On their return, it was noted that a few more people had asked to testify via Zoom. They did so, and the supervisors were given an opportunity to comment.

Supervisor Brendon Carroll spoke, noting that he has been a builder in the township for many years.

He responded to those who had said the township should have adopted the county’s standard of 2 persons per bedroom plus four to accommodate people with

small children. The township has adopted modern building codes that other parts of the county have not, he said.

He also said that he was basing his vote on what he felt was best for Tobyhanna Township and all its residents, not the residents of other townships.

Voting in favor of the ordinance were supervisors David Carbone, Carroll, Joseph Colyer, and Rachel Schickling. Chairman John

Kerrick abstained.

Following that vote, a hearing was opened on the zoning amendment. No one testified on that subject, though one or two people made comments about the subject of short-term rentals and the ordinance already adopted. Vote on the amendment was the same four in favor with one abstention.

The ordinance will go into effect in 90 days.

Mount Pocono gets look at new website

by Pat Albano At Mount Pocono Borough Council work session on June 21, Kevin Herman from Proud City and lead designer of the borough’s new website highlighted the new search features on the website stating, “We are excited to work with Borough Manager Josh Walker to provide improvements and services for Mt. Pocono.”

Josh Ehrhard made a presentation for Big Belly Trash and Recycling Cans stating the company is based in Albany and been in business 18 years. He discussed different bin capacities, ergonomic designs and costs associated with both leasing and purchasing bins. Mayor Randy Altemose asked how long the company had a leasing program with Ehrhard responding several years.

Walker added, “Litter is a problem downtown,” citing ShopRite. Altemose added, “It is probably a good idea to have several containers downtown.” Council president Don Struckle noted, “no decision is necessary at this time, and we can think on it.”

The board interviewed several residents for a council seat made vacant by the resignation of Aida Montanez. Debra Fulton a 14-year resident of Mt Pocono and President of Parks/ Recreation for the previous 5 years was asked by Norman Delano and Don Struckle what she felt are the biggest issues within the township and what she considered her accomplishments at Parks and Rec. Brian Kelly, a resident since 1996 and a professional property manager was asked the same questions.

The MPMA Board Candidate Interview and the Constable Candidate interview were

tabled since Walker is still waiting for input from both candidates.

Attention then turned to issues concerning the Chicken Ordinance discussed at the last meeting. On hand was Carolyn Bartczack from the Chicken Sanctuary to assist with questions. The Chicken Sanctuary is one of several nonprofit organizations within Pennsylvania. Zoning officer Alexis Wilkinson recommended limitations on the number of chickens residents can have. Norman Delano asked what recourse the borough has against non-compliance and Wilkinson added, “I will issue a violation.” Board member Ann Marie Harris

stated, “I am against chickens—what’s next, goats and cattle?” Other suggestions by Wilkinson included 25’ from the edge of the property and a 1-year renewal on permits.

Struckle suggested a cap on the number of individual permits, and said it would be taken up at the next meeting.

The need to establish an ordnance on shopping carts was also considered, with the suggestion that both property and store owners be held liable for carts.

The work session concluded with reminders of a Town Hall on August 13 at 10 a.m.; Community Yard Sale Dates of August 26-28; and First Fridays on July 1, August 5, and September 2.

Seth’s Sightings

It’s starting to be lily season at our house as the weather cycle seems to have been perfect to have these bloom earlier. As a treat, we added some cherry tomatoes for their flowers, and fruit.

For added color, we now have a hanging basket with petunias, and a pot of begonias. Summer is getting a colorful start.

The spectacular bloom of mountain laurel (PA’s state flower) hereabouts is fading.

There are still bushes in bloom in shaded places to still enjoy.

We sighted some locals at the Taste of PA wine event at Split Rock. It was another great event. My prize was a pineapple wine (100% pineapple). Ruth found some wines to her taste, and we also bought some nut butters among our shopping.

I saw them both perched there as I drove past. Here’s to hoping they hatch chicks.

And about shopping, we are buying locally grown food from area farmers.

New to our monthly routine is the Saturday morning Farmer’s Market, held in the town square in Lehighton ‘til noon. There’s a nice variety of stands, including a poultry farm, a vendor with cheeses, fresh milk and yogurt, produce, prepared foods, and pies. On our regular round are Heckman’s in Effort and Gould’s Farm east of Brodheadsville.

Among our prizes have been Pennsylvania sweet cherries and ‘Black Velvet’ apricots.

Next will be local peaches.

We followed a hard week’s work with a hard weekend’s bit of play on the 24th and 25th. Friday was A Hard Day’s Night, with work into the early hours on that day, then a regular work day, and then a drive to Lancaster County. That night, Ruth and I attended an outdoor concert by the American folk/Celtic band, Scythian. As a bonus, one of

The concert was at the PA Renaissance Faire site, just under two hours from here.

We arrived just as the Saints took the stage. They gave a terrific show, and Scythian’s was even better. This was a great night.

We then overnighted in Reading, because everything else around Lancaster County was booked. Our hotel turned out to be on the site of the old Vanity Fair Outlets. As we arrived, we were amazed that the outlets were all gone, and in their place were office buildings and apartments — and lots of

construction. The hotel was tucked in along the line of former repurposed factory buildings, now mostly upscale apartments.

The next morning we drove to Ephrata to have our breakfast al fresco, sitting on the porch of a beautiful old repurposed pharmacy building. We then took a few minutes to explore Ephrata before driving on to the Faire via back roads, enjoying the absolutely gorgeous Lancaster County farmlands that we passed through.

Saturday at Celtic Fling was a hot summer’s day. We arrived in the early afternoon as temperatures climbed

towards 90. I had my roller, and slowly wandered the event, taking in full sets from great Celtic bands including Enter the Haggis (from Toronto), House of Hamill* (Lehigh Valley), and Syr (Columbia, South Carolina).

The heat was a bit too much and I ran down, needing a long shaded sit and a cool cloth (brought one to use just in case, and needed it). Once revived, I rolled my way out and drove home as the sun set. *If locals want to enjoy a performance of House of Hamill, they will be playing in Hawley on July 8 outdoors See SIGHTINGS, page 7

Bethlehem Restaurant Week ends on July 2, and we’ll get into town for a meal at the Hotel Bethlehem for a their special of a threecourse meal at $40 each … which is awesome.

On July 4, we are going to be part of a group to cheer the Iron Pigs from their party deck, and then enjoy a big fireworks display. Oink Oink Oink.

Friday and Saturday July 8 and 9, Ruth and I will pick a nice grassy spot on the hillside at Briggs Farm each evening of the Briggs Farm Blues Fest. Their weekend again has some of the finest Blues talent in the country performing. The farm is outside of Nescopeck— west on I-80 to Route 93, then north to the festival.

It’s within an hour’s drive for most Pocono Plateau readers.

The 16th and 17th features a regional Pow-Wow at Camp Rotowanis in Drums, even closer to the Pocono Plateau (off the Route 309 exit, south to the first traffic signal, then

turn west (right) and follow the signs).

NASCAR comes to us here in the Poconos on the 22nd to 24th. Some tickets to premium seats are in short supply, so get your tickets soon. For those wanting to see what the excitement is all about, Friday night’s ARCA race is just $10 each (kids are free) for a 200 mile superspeedway race featuring some local and some national up-andcoming drivers. Saturday offers the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Race (60 Laps/ 150 Miles) and the NASCAR Xfinity Series Race (90 Laps/ 225 Miles).

Sunday is the M&Ms 400 NASCAR race.

Here’s a story to share from a family in our reading area.

Last weekend as the family was getting ready for dinner, a younger family member was sent out to get the grill started. Opening the grill, there was a surprise — a skunk was sleeping inside. Another family member was summoned.

Yes, there was a skunk there.

Dinner was delayed, as it took some figuring to open the grill and let skunk escape without any incident...

Native American group to hold Pow-Wow The Wyoming Trail Council of Pennsylvania’s Native Americans will be hosting a Pow-Wow on July 16 and 17 at Camp Rotawanis in Drums near the town of St. Johns.

This event is open to the public and will run from 10 a.m. till TBD on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, with grand entry at noon both days.

American Indians of many tribes will be representing their style of ancient and modern dance while wearing the beautiful regalia associated with the various dances and tribal customs. Grand entry begins with all dancers entering the dance arena led by flag bearers carrying the American flag, POW/MIA flags and Native American staffs and flags representing the different Indian nations and groups attending.

Following the flags will be the head male and female dancer

who lead all the dancers. The second dance of grand entry is a flag song with the purpose of saluting or honoring the flags, and the final song of grand entry is the veterans dance honoring all veterans of all races throughout all the conflicts in American history. At the start of this dance all veterans from the public are invited into the circle to be honored.

At the conclusion of grand entry, more dancing will commence with many different dances performed, some of which are old traditional style, some social dances, and many throughout the day that the public is invited to participate in. There will be a hoop dancer.

All around the dance circle will be Native American vendors selling their beautiful hand crafts which usually include blankets, furs, jewelry,

knifes and art, and of course food vendors with various native and other foods, as well as a tomahawk throw.

Pow-Wow signs will be posted leading the public to the camp from Mountain Top exit of Interstate 80 to Route 309 S to the Saint Johns Road or 309 N from Hazleton to Saint Johns Road.

Bring a lawn chair or blanket, and pets on a leash. No drugs or alchol are permitted on the grounds.

5-25, PA State Troopers from Fern Ridge responded to the Birches development in Effort on a report of a deceased 73 y/o man. A friend discovered the man, after not seeing him for a while and going over. He called 911. The man had various heart problems. The Monroe County Coroner’s office was doing a toxicology report.

6-12, 3:29 p.m., a road rage incident led to a car being followed home in Indian Mountain Lakes, which led to an argument on the property between the two drivers. No charges were filed.

There were a couple of vandalism reports, and one of scattering rubbish (including furniture) along a local road.

There was the usual batch of DUIs, including a couple of crashes.

In the crashes reports, there were a couple in Brodheadsville in the shopping area due to inattention — fortunately fender benders.

A Jim Thorpe-area couple on their Harley were both hurt seriously when the bike went off Route 903 in front of Frosty Mountain Beverage in Penn Forest Township at

5:44 p.m. 5-30. The bike hit a large boulder nearby. Both were wearing motorcycle helmets. Lehighton Ambulance took both of them for care at St. Luke’s Carbon County.

Stealin’ Pocono Mountain Regional Police have investigated a string of commercial burglaries happening through the spring of this year within Mount Pocono Borough at businesses dealing with the sale or servicing of automobiles.

The modus operandi of the suspects was to break in to these businesses, steal the keys, then steal the vehicles.

5-28, the PMRP attempted to stop a gray Toyota Camry in Coolbaugh Township. The car fled, police in pursuit, then stopped and four individuals got out and ran off. The car had been stolen from Burks Tavern in Mt. Pocono. A search of the vehicle found a cell phone and virtual wallet for a 15 y/o male, plus a stolen handgun.

6-13, PMRPD Detectives responded to a burglary at A-1 Auto in Mt. Pocono, learning the business had been broken into and a

BMW X3 was stolen. Police were able to analyze video surveillance and developed a suspect description.

That day, the vehicle was located within A Pocono Country Place and witnesses described 3 suspects with the car.

6-14, PMRP responded to Pure Auto in Mt. Pocono for a burglary in progress with a male trying to steal a BMW from the lot. Police arrived as the suspect was coming out of the rear of the building. He fled on foot and police pursued but the suspect could be followed before the PMRPD’s K9 was brought in. The dog tracked to the rear of Snowshoe Apartments in Mt. Pocono, where the track ended.

Through video analysis, the suspect appears to be the same as the one depicted in the A-1 burglary. Police identified a person of interest through past police contacts.

6-15, Police were called to a home in A Pocono Country Place after the homeowner found a Mercedes Benz parked in his detached garage. It was determined that the Mercedes had been stolen from A- 1 Auto on the same date as the BMW. Through physical processing of the vehicles, police were able to forensically link their suspect to the stolen cars.

6-22, an Audi SUV left on the travel lane of Route

196 near Ryans Road in Coolbaugh Township attracted police. It turned out this vehicle had been stolen earlier in the day from Precision Auto in Mt. Pocono. Witnesses gave a description matching that of the known suspects, saying they some them leave the car and walk towards A Pocono Country Place. Another witness was able to positively identify Shateek Burks and See POLICE BEAT, page 9

a juvenile as being in the Audi. And while investigating the stolen Audi, PMRP was called to APCP about a car that had just been stolen. Police then took a report of a stolen Ford Focus. Police were then called to a home in APCP by a homeowner who saw a suspicious vehicle pull into her driveway. It turned out to be the stolen Ford. The homeowner described the two males in the Ford, the descriptions were the same as the known description of Burks and the juvenile.

Police then responded to the known home of the juvenile in APCP and saw the juvenile out on the deck. The juvenile quickly retreated into the house. Police then formed a perimeter around the house and made contact with the resident, saying it was just she and her sisters there. Police explained that the teen, along with Burks, were wanted in connection with a crime spree. The woman, Jahlea Gary, continued to obstruct police. During a call, Burks jumped out of a window and ran past officers on the perimeter, prompting an extended foot chase.

Police determine that Gary was out on bail for on a charge of conspiracy to commit robbery in Polk Township.

She was arrested on multiple charges and has violated her bail.

Burks, as he was running though APCP, sought assistance from a 17 y/o friend in obtaining a phone charger, and told him that he was being chased by police and his phone was dying. Burks needed to charge his phone so that he could coordinate his escape from the area. Police saw the two and ordered them to stop, but they both fled. This time, police caught the 17 y/o. Burks managed to escape the area, but police tracked him down at his mother’s residence in the Snowshoe Condominiums. A search warrant was then served at the apartment and police were able to obtain evidence linking Burks to many of the crimes.

He was arraigned and committed to Monroe County Correctional Facility under $50,000 bail.

Gary has been charged with Hindering Apprehension or Prosecution (Felony 3), Obstruction of Justice (Misdemeanor 2), Resisting Arrest (Misdemeanor 2).

She was arraigned and committed to Monroe County Correctional Facility under $10,000 bail.

The 15 y/o juvenile has been charged through the Juvenile system with burglary, theft and receiving and was committed to a juvenile detention facility.

The 17 y/o faces charges of Hindering Apprehension, and was released to his parents.

Overnight 6-13 to 14, thieves forced open the back door of an empty rental unit in the 903 Plaza in Albrightsville, and then cut through the wall into C&D Cigar & Cigarettes.

There, they broke into two poker machines, stealing the cash from inside — $4,000 each — and doing about $2,500 in damage to the machines. The thieves failed to enter the next door day care, but damaged the door lock and the back fence in their attempt. PSP–Fern Ridge would greatly appreciate any witnesses or information to help in solving this crime. Call them at 570 646-2271.

An Effort woman reported paying $900 via Zelle for a Dachshund puppy that was never received. She contacted PSP on 6-5 to report she’d been scammed. PSP is investigating.

6-15, $22,400 worth of stainless steel medical grade cabinets and carts were stolen from a Bartonsville Woods, Jackson Twp. home.

6-24, a Coolbaugh local was contact by phone by someone claiming to be a member of PA State Police telling the 56 y/o he failed to register through Megan’s Law and needed to pay a fine to resolve the issue. to have stolen jewelry, coins and valuables during a home move between South Carolina and Jackson Township. Police arrested a 31 y/o Mt. Vernon, NY man after finding the valuables in his possession.

6-27, a burglary at a Pilgrim Way home in Brodheadsville.

Also of note, on 5-17 just before 11 a.m., a 38 y/o Blakeslee area man was arrested for retail theft after

he was seen stealing/ concealing wine bottles in the ShopRite, and drinking the from them. PSP arrived to arrest the man.

Police are investigating identity theft incidents such as unauthorized charges on debit and credit cards, and at least one incident where thieves just transferred $500 out of the ESSA bank account of a local. There were a variety of e-mail scams around, asking people to buy gift cards. A few people did so, most recognized it as a scam and some reported it to police.

There were also at least two incidents of the grandson in jail scam — one on 6-28 was called in to police by an 86 y/o Jackson Twp. woman. The caller in her case was seeking $9,500. An 81 y/o man, also from Jackson, received a similar call on 6-17 — he hung up on them and reported the call to PSP.

PennDOT Crews are out on various roads in our area doing pothole patching — Route 940 in Kidder Township is one of those roads, with a crew planned to be there through July 8. There’s also a crew working various roads in Barrett Township this week.

A crack sealing crew has been out on Long Pond Road in Tunkhannock Township.

A team doing drainage work is at Route 115 and Molasses Valley Road until that project is complete.

Farmers Market Nutrition Program offers access to fresh, local produce

by State Rep. Jack Rader (R-Monroe) The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture is reminding low-income seniors and recipients of WIC benefits of the availability of vouchers from the Penn-

sylvania Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP).

The vouchers may be used to purchase fresh and local fruits, vegetables, and herbs from approved farmers at farmers markets and farm stands across the Commonwealth. To find the nearest

participating marker, visit www.pafmnp.pa.gov.

To be eligible, seniors must be 60 years old by Dec. 31 and have incomes that do not exceed 185% of the federal poverty level, which is currently $25,142 per year for a single person or $33,874 for

a household of two. Vouchers are distributed on a firstcome, first-served basis.

Applications are available on the Monroe County website at www.monroecountypa. gov.

In addition, women, and children ages 6 months to 4 years, who are participating in the state’s WIC program are eligible to receive vouchers under the WIC FMNP. For more information on how to receive their vouchers, WIC

recipients should contact their local WIC agency.

Each eligible recipient receives four $6 checks to spend throughout the season. Participants may redeem vouchers from June 1 through November 30.

The Department of Agriculture has a free FMNP Market Locator app for iOS and Android devices. The app is available for download in both the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store.

PHYLLIS RITTERBUSCH Phyllis Ritterbusch, 61, of Tobyhanna, passed away in her home on Wednesday, June 22, 2022. Born in Long Island, New York she was the daughter of the late Henry Ritterbusch. She was the beloved wife of Paul Conklin with whom she shared 12 years of marriage.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family.

DOLORES DeSANTO

Dolores DeSanto, 91, of Mount Pocono, passed away Thursday evening, June 16, 2022, while under hospice care in her home. She was the widow of Angelo P. DeSanto, who died July 28, 2016.

Born on December 24, 1930 in Freeland, she was one of six children to the late John and Helen (Beam) Magrosky and lived in Mount Pocono for the past 69 years.

For many years Dolores owned and operated DeSanto Health Foods from her home, and she also worked for Coffman and Meyung Photography.

She was a devout Catholic and was a long-time member of the former St. Mary of The Mount Roman Catholic Church in Mt. Pocono where she sang in the choir for many years. After the closing of St. Mary’s Church she became a member of Most Holy Trinity Parish in Cresco.

Dolores did the baking and organized the yearly sale at the Villa of Our Lady Retreat House and also volunteered

at the Mt. Pocono Fire Company Carnival for many years.

Surviving are her nieces and nephews, Karen Garcia and husband Edmundo, Deborah, Jamie, Madge, George, Cindy and Jackie; her favorite “little nurse”, Felecia and her partner Amber; several great nieces and nephews; her forever faithful canine companion, Leo; and her good friend for the past 20 years, Ricki. She was preceded in death by five siblings, James Magrosky, John Magrosky, Sr., Madge Aceto, Karen Ball and Marie Magrosky.

Special thanks to her caregivers, Maria, Loita and Esther for the wonderful care they provided to Dolores.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on June 25, at Most Holy Trinity Parish, Cresco with Rev. Brian J.W. Clarke as celebrant.

In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances may be made to Most Holy Trinity Parish, 212 Route 390, Cresco, PA 18326.

MARIA L. BUTT Maria L. Butt, 47, of Pocono Lake, passed away on Monday, June 20 in her home.

Born in Hackensack, NJ, she was a daughter of John William Butt of Long Pond and the late Linda (Minnella) Butt.

Maria loved to garden and she loved her sci-fi movies.

She enjoyed cooking. She was a selfless person who did everything for her family. A single mom, she worked hard her whole life.

In addition to her father, she is survived by her daughter, Sierra Kresge of Long Pond; a brother, John William Butt Jr. in NJ; two sisters, Laura N. Butt of Long Pond and Michelle Wackley of Bangor; and her boyfriend Jason Wilson of Pocono Lake.

No services are planned at this time. Cremation will take place in the H. G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg.

CHERYL A. SCHOONMAKER Cheryl A. Schoonmaker, age 57 of Blakeslee, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, June 23, 2022 at her home.

Cheryl was the loving wife of Robert Schoonmaker.

They celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary on February 14.

She was born in Jersey City, NJ on January 14, 1965, the daughter of Joyce (Leonard) Lescinsky of Wayne, NJ and the late Charles Lescinsky.

Cheryl will be deeply missed by her loving husband: Robert Schoonmaker of Blakeslee;

Shawn Schoonmaker and his wife Brittany of Selinsgrove, and Brian Schoonmaker and his wife Kelly of East Stroudsburg. She was the loving grandmother to her two grandchildren, Adilynn and Hayden Schoonmaker. Cheryl is also survived by two brothers, Charles Lescinsky and his family of Wayne, NJ and David Lescinsky of Totowa, NJ, and several nieces and nephews.

No services are scheduled at this time. Interment is private and at the convenience of the family.

JANET E. RUSSELL

Janet E. Russell, 88, of Gilbert, PA, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, crossed over to glory on April 25, 2022. Born in Worcester, MA, on April 14, 1934, to parents Gilbert R. and Dorothy E. Frick.

Janet spent her childhood in Buffalo, NY, graduating from Riverside HS. She earned, in 1956, a Bachelor of Science degree in early childhood education from Buffalo State Teachers College. In 1957, she married her high school sweetheart, Richard H. (Dick) Russell.

In 1960 they moved to the home they had built together with her parents and sister, Carole Lee, in Clarence, NY. There, Janet and Dick opened their hearts and lives to family and friends, creating memories and forging bonds through their gourmet meals, game nights, parties, and swim extravaganzas. The house and yard echoed daily with laughter, noise, schnauzers, and love.

Janet taught at the elementary school level before giving her time over to raising two daughters, Dianna and Robin. However, she never abandoned her dreams of nurturing other young

children. Her proudest achievement came after her girls were older, when she became head teacher—and then owner/director—of Four Seasons Day Care Center in Amherst, NY. With a staff of 30 people and serving as many as 100 children a day, the center reflected Janet’s warm, loving, and vibrant dedication to the needs of children and to their education. Dick, who had since retired from a lifetime of teaching, took on new roles as office assistant, handyman and cheerleader to his wife’s success.

When Janet sold the business in 1996, she and Dick bought a 40-foot trawler. They spent the next five years “living aboard” in style and entertaining, cooking gourmet meals and spreading feasts on their aft sundeck.

When, in 2001, Dick died after a short illness, Janet moved to Gilbert, in her daughter Dianna and shared in raising Dianna’s two children, Jeremy and McKenna.

Janet attended Salem United Church of Christ in Gilbert and served as president of council for several years, working

KENNETH R. SENGHAAS tirelessly to ensure its missions were met. She also supported PVEN and other charitable organizations in her spare time.

Janet will be best remembered for her devotion to her husband, to her daughters Dianna Russell (Peter Ward) of Gilbert, and Robin Votaw (Robert) of Vero Beach, to her grandchildren Jeremy Sickels (Alexandra DiTullio) of Brooklyn, McKenna Ebeling (Michael) of Bethlehem, Alexa DeLisle (Kevin) of Palm Bay, FL, and Zachary Votaw of Vero Beach, and to her great grandchildren Carson, Zoey, and Piper DeLisle. She also adored and was adored by her sister, Carole Sinclair (Michael) of Tonawanda, NY, her nephew Keith Taylor (Carolyn) of Erie, PA, her niece Beth McCarty (Douglas) of Buffalo, and Keith and Beth’s respective children, Matthew, David, and Daniel of Erie, and Kinley and Zack of Buffalo.

A celebration of Janet’s life took place June 25 at Salem U.C.C. in Gilbert.

Interment will take place privately. Contributions in Janet’s name can be made to Heifer International (“equipping communities with sustainable tools that enable them to provide for themselves”), Camp Papillon Animal Shelter, any charity that supports children, or LVHN Pocono Hospice.

Kenneth R. Senghaas, 73, of Pocono Summit, died Sunday, June 26, 2022, at home. He was the husband of the late Anna Jean (Gomb) Senghaas with whom he shared 29 years of marriage at the time of her death on December 23, 2007.

Born on May 30, 1949 in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Robert A. and Florence B. (Harvey) Senghaas.

He served in the United States Army from 1969 to 1970 and has lived in Monroe County since the early 1970s.

Ken worked as a mechanic for Thomas’ Sunoco in Pocono Summit and in quality control for Sanofi in Swiftwater.

He was a member of the Wilson-Fischer Post 413 American Legion in Pocono Pines.

Surviving are three stepchildren, James Erlsten

and partner Lynne Moyer of Bennett, CO, Michael Erlsten and wife Lisa of Pocono Pines, and Caroline Fluegel of Pocono Summit; seven step-grandchildren, Jimmy Erlsten of Lakewood, CO, Hannah Erlsten of Centenial, CO, Brittany Edgar and husband Brandon of Lehighton, Makenzie Erlsten of Pocono Pines, Joey Bartkovsky of Pocono Summit, Jamie Umbria of Scotrun, and Annie Umbria of Bath; and a sister, Phyllis Senghaas of Peekskill, NY. Private services will take place at the convenience of the family with burial at Oaklawn Cemetery in Wilkes-Barre.
