MISSION
STATEMENT
Cape Fear Academy is a learning community committed to discovering and developing individual potential, preparing each student for success in college and life.
HOW WE GOT HERE
Using our mission statement as our guide, the Strategic Planning Committee, the Leadership Team along with the input from countless individuals spent the past year capturing historical data about Cape Fear Academy, researching independent school trends, demographic shifts in our regional marketplace, studying changes to the teaching profession, what it means to be a Global citizen and advancements in technology and social media. The Strategic Planning Task Force reviewed and coded over 2,500 survey responses and data points and conducted a series of interviews and focus group with:
- Parent/Guardians
- Faculty/Staff
- Alumni & Alumni Families
- Past and Present Trustees
- Administration
- Donors
Then we let the data guide us in identifying our strategic priorities and defining our goals for success.

Financial Stewardship and Sustainability
PILLAR ONE CURRICULUM & PROGRAMMING
Emphasize a student-centered approach to learning and academic excellence that - through expansive and personalized opportunities - breaks the boundaries of classrooms, content areas and the campus itself.
• Lead our region in the implementation of research based, innovative pedagogy and curriculum.
• Expand and evolve signature programming so that students have opportunities to cultivate and explore their passions in transformative ways.
• Evaluate and strengthen cross-divisional curricular alignment, including in the areas of technology, character and leadership, and experiential learning, so that we maximize opportunities to help students reach their full potential.
• Support differentiation and student choice so that all mission-appropriate students can discover pathways for academic success and personal growth.
PILLAR TWO FACULTY AND STAFF
Foster a culture of teaching excellence, innovation, and relational engagement in which faculty and staff have the resources and support to work alongside students to create profound learning outcomes and personal fulfillment for all
• Support the well-being of faculty and staff with programs and benefits that facilitate personal growth and wellness.
• Explore scheduling and staffing models designed to make collaboration and innovation hallmarks of our faculty culture, teaching practices, and student experience.
• Continue to increase funding to support professional development so that faculty and staff seeking to grow see CFA as an outstanding, long-term workplace
• Design and implement a long-term plan to increase compensation to attract and retain top teaching candidates from diverse backgrounds across the country.
• Grow faculty and staff pipelines by pursuing partnerships and programs that provide access to promising teachers
PILLAR THREE COMMUNITY & CONNECTIONS
Forge meaningful and consistent opportunities for our community to connect, both on and beyond campus, and experience the joy of what it means to be part of something greater than one ’ s self.
• Enhance belonging for all students through intentionally designed cultural touchpoints and programming that allow us to know, love, and engage with those whose lived experiences differ from our own.
• Prioritize cross-divisional connections to inspire growth and strengthen leadership and values-based accountability for all members of our community.
• Identify and support meaningful service, education, and access opportunities that connect CFA to the Wilmington community.
• Develop a culture in which all community members have the tools to actively support and safely advocate for their mental health and well-being and care for the health and well-being of others.
PILLAR
CAMPUS & FACILITIES
Develop and bring to life a vision for facilities grounded in our mission, built on our values, conducive to a dynamic student experience, and agile for future innovation.
• Design a campus master plan that supports educational excellence, empowers the pursuit of individual passions, prioritizes the safety and wellbeing of our community members, and provides for future expansion to support enrollment growth.
• Equip learning spaces with cutting-edge technology and the flexibility to adapt as educational practices evolve
• Study opportunities to capture additional enrollment through the exploration of expanded transportation options and campus proximate facilities
PILLAR FIVE
FINANCIAL STEWARDSHIP & SUSTAINABILITY
Safeguard our long-term financial sustainability to enrich the experience of CFA students, faculty and staff, enhance our campus and facilities, and deepen the engagement with our broader community.
• Conduct a feasibility study for a comprehensive capital campaign to assess the amount and pace of fundraising that would support the improvements and expansion of the campus, lift the ceiling on annual giving, and seed meaningful future endowment earnings.
• Cultivate a culture of philanthropy that supports community education on why CFA needs financial support beyond tuition and how different capital-growth strategies support the near and long-term success of the school
• Resource and design a comprehensive and dynamic marketing and outreach initiative to better tell our story in the region, enhance our reputation beyond the campus, and engage with a myriad of constituents in and outside of our CFA community.
• Remain steadfast in our commitment to keep CFA affordable and accessible - through responsible tuition pricing and robust financial aid practices.
