PATINA MALDIVES DELICATE & RHYTHMIC SPACES

Born out of guests’ desire to honour individuality, Patina Maldives, Fari Islands appeals to a new generation of travellers who seek deeper connections with themselves and the world around them. The human-centric design flows with the natural modes people are in, gently and intuitively providing for each guest’s individual needs, ensuring no two stays are exactly the same.

PATINA MALDIVES, FARI ISLANDS

Patina Maldives is designed by award-winning Brazilian architect, Marcio Kogan and his talented team of co-authors at Studio MK27 - Renata Furlanetto, Diana Radomysler and Pedro Ribeiro. The property embraces the principles of biophilic design where delicate architectural lines remain respectfully low, never breaching the horizon, in deference to the exuberant, encompassing blues above and below. “Patina is unique in the Maldives: an opportunity to be together in isolation. One of the most remote places on Earth and still a place designed for people to meet one another. Patina Maldives, Fari Islands

embraces our natural conflicts: desire for peace and party, for nature and design, technology and rusticity, self-indulgence and deep reflections.” Marcio Kogan’s design vision is reflected throughout the island resort’s accommodations, restaurants on the adjoining Fari Marina Village, and social buildings. The permeable design of the buildings promotes a pleasing and inviting experimentation of each space, organised according to a hierarchy of textures and coverings that creates a gentle transition between open and closed environments. 7

THE RITZ-CARLTON MALDIVES, FARI ISLANDS

The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands is a feast for the eyes: white-sand beaches, water in indescribable of blue and a distinct minimalistic design.

circular villas sit comfortably in the bright Maldives sunlight, shadows are soft, and breezes flow freely between buildings.” noted Kerry Hill Architects.

The ears will carry their own memories: the sharp blow of a sangu shell to announce your arrival, daily conversations with your Aris Meeha, or simply the sounds of nature explored with respect and wonder.

“The design is inspired by the dual personality of the site, embracing contrasts between open ocean and calm lagoon, daytime shade and the expansive night sky, contemplative and active spaces.”

Inspired by the water and nature’s circular movement in the Maldives, Kerry Hill Architects encapsulates The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands’ spirit and philosophy through design and architecture. “The masterplan is directly shaped by ocean forces, the wind and waves. The

Kerry Hill Architects perfectly captures the essence of the destination’s nature, embracing the circle of island life through the minimalistic circular architecture – a re-imagination of the Maldives, and a meaningful tribute to the late Kerry Hill.

CAPELLA MALDIVES, FARI ISLANDS

At the villas and mansions of Capella Maldives, renowned Japanese architect Kengo Kuma reveals the essence of nature by carefully integrating architecture and the island landscape in his design.

Maldivian vernacular architecture is celebrated through the use of timbre in every structure, while Kuma brings out the unique texture and purity of wood further through the application of Yamatobari pattern.

“I like to use lighter tone natural materials to offer a unique experience for Capella Maldives. The overall feel would be light and monochromatic. Resorts in tropical climates often use dark coloured wood for roofs I want to offer something more special.”

Play of shadow is equally important in Kuma’s work, and the deep roof eaves provide a silhouette that convey a sense of relief and tranquility.

THE CULT OF CREATION

28

James Turrell once said, ‘Light is not so much something that reveals, as it is itself a revelation.” As much as light is important to Turrell, art is Fari Island’s primary vehicle of revelation to the world and all its nuances, most prominently with a Skyspace installation - Amarta (2021) by Turrell himself. This autonomous structure explores space and the light that inhabits it. Turrell asks that we also inhabit the space and explore our perception of form. Under the Maldivian sun, the aperture focuses on our senses on the pulse and purity of nature.

29

CREATIVE CAPITAL Fari Islands offers an irresistible charm of creativity and craft. The year-round tropical destination pushes boundaries through collaborations with visiting artists, musicians, and masters in photography, fashion, and design. A shared calendar of inventive events and enchanting engagements draws members of the Fari community to return time and again; to gather, re-encounter, and re-discover the Home of Island Artistry.

30

Our spacious berth and 3-metre-deep lagoon could accommodate up to 20 yachts at any one time.

31

FARI CAMPUS HOME TO THE CHAMPIONS OF FARI ISLANDS

32

Fari Islands seeks to bring a sea-change to employee accommodation and wellbeing, by building a separate island specially dedicated to our staff. Designed by Gaurang Khemka, founder of award-winning architectural and urban planning firm URBNarc, the spacious and purpose-built Fari Campus was designed to foster a sense of belonging and community, with intuitive

spaces inspired by traditional Maldivian communities. With a full suite of recreational facilities and amenities, as well as comfortable living quarters, Fari Campus was crafted to meet varying needs of its residents. To help our colleagues rise to their full potential, Fari Campus will also be launching a vocational training program with leading hospitality management institution - Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne.

33

NATURE AMPLIFIED DEVOTION TO PRESERVING MALDIVES At Fari Islands, we live intimately with the sea, the sun, the sand, and the trees around us. We pay homage to biodiversity in all forms. With the onset of global warming and the bleaching of reefs, the very things we celebrate in the Maldives are under threat. Fari Islands is also collaborating with Parley for the Oceans to bring a disruptive creativity to the environmental awareness of guest programming within the archipelago, including regular beach cleanups of the neighbouring islands where 10kgs of marine plastic will be collected, cleaned, and repurposed into Parley ocean plastic material.

34

From the early stages of construction and landscaping to ongoing operations, Fari Islands has adopted sustainable practices that maximise our relationship with the community, while minimising negative impact on the environment. Beyond the use of responsibly-sourced materials and careful waste management, we incentivise social responsibility in-house and will progressively expand on larger efforts to support the local ecosystem. We believe that the biggest change comes with education and awareness. We safeguard the values of our marine-biology program through a multitude of avenues – ranging from kids’ club programmes to in-house marine biologists and the destination’s signature turtle rehabilitation and coral regeneration efforts. 35
