We had an amazing – and inspirational – time at the grand opening of our latest store and education academy at Boucher Place, Belfast. Making it official alongside Store Manager, Sarah Fargher, and Capital Hair and Beauty Sales Director, Dave Harrison, was Dr John Rainey MBE and Denman’s Global Artistic Director. Adding a touch of glamour to the proceedings, one of Northern Ireland’s most celebrated hairdressers, Paul Stafford,

ABOUT ANNE LOCATION: Oxford and Bicester INSTAGRAM: @annevecksalons FACEBOOK: Anne Veck Salons YEARS IN THE BUSINESS: 34 years in hair; 27 owning her own salon

MONDAY

I try and work from home most Mondays, where I spend my time planning and prepping hair for various shows and courses I do. Coming up I have the Alternative Hair Show, Fellowship Hair and Vision in Cardiff, and the Fellowship Stage at Salon International. I always want to do something slightly different for each show, but all with my own spin on it. My two major passions are avant garde work and education, so heaven for me is teaching avant garde to a vibrant, motivated, energetic group of hairdressers.I feel so honoured to be presenting at The Alternative Hair Show for the eight year, and I’m looking forward to sharing my vision at the other events I’ve got coming up. /14

TUESDAY

I’ll spend the day with clients at our newly revamped Bicester salon once a week. I love spending time with my clients; some I’ve been seeing for years so a lot of the time it doesn’t really feel like work. Tuesday evening I’m off to an awards dinner for the National Reality Television Awards as I’m currently one of the judges on the new series of Channel 5’s Extreme Hair Wars, and the first series has been nominated. It’s been great doing this show; I’ve really enjoyed it even though the days are very long sometimes! It’s a really fun concept and seeing the creativity of some of the contestants is awe-inspiring.

WEDNESDAY

We have our Big Hair Do Party to launch our Bicester salon. This is a great way to celebrate with our clients, old and new, and a great excuse for a party! We’ve been in Bicester for years, but at the beginning of the year we moved and created a salon that’s more in line with the eco-friendly credentials at our award-winning Oxford salon. The new Bicester salon is a real family affair - my brothers came over from France to help me and my husband build everything, from the big central table we converted from an old cable drum, to the styling stations and shelving units. We have ‘green’ broadband and biodegradable towels, alongside watersaving devices at the backwash to try and be as eco-conscious as possible.

THURSDAY / FRIDAY

I split my time between both salons, so on Thursdays and Fridays I work in the Oxford salon, seeing clients both days. Oxford was our first salon and in 2013 we revamped the whole place to make it as eco-friendly as possible, by lowering energy use, reducing waste through more efficient systems and meeting the reduced energy needs from renewable sources, which in turn reduced both ours and our clients' carbon footprints. We were also the first hair salon in the world to use the BlueGenCeramic fuel cell technology, which reduces energy use by half - in effect, the salon has its own mini power station, which converts gas to electricity and heats water and the salon. I’m so proud of what we’ve achieved there!

SATURDAY

Today I’ll collaborate with a photographer for an editorial photo shoot for Russian Vogue. I love doing shoots, especially collaborations for magazines, as it’s great having the creative freedom to work to an editorial brief. I love hair shoots as well but it’s nice not to have the pressure of shooting for an award! When you’re working to someone else’s brief, the starting point is not your own, so it takes you in a direction you wouldn’t have gone independently. Collaborations are usually lots of fun, as you’re not representing a brand, you’re not trying to sell a product or educate – it’s just pure pleasure! And fantastically rewarding.

SUNDAY

Education is one of my favourite things to do. I carry out a lot of courses as an ambassador for Revlon Professional, but I also hold my own. My bridal courses are extremely popular, so on Sunday I’ll be holding one in my Bicester Salon. Bridal hair is something that can be so lucrative for a salon, but is also one of the harder things to get right, and is very daunting when you first get into it. It’s a great feeling seeing students start the course with little confidence and then leave raring to get going on their next bride! It’s not just the practical hair side I teach on these courses, I also help show the business side, from what prices to charge, to timings and which services to offer. /15

YOU DO? THIS ISSUE WE’VE ASKED THREE INDUSTRY EXPERTS TO HELP US OUT WITH A READER’S PROBLEM. READ ON TO FIND OUT WHAT THEY THINK – AND IF YOU’D DO THE SAME.

Q can be hard.

Keeping a team inspired and motivated can be difficult, and more importantly keeping yourself inspired when juggling so many things whilst running a business

Taking some time out to educate and motivate your team is useful. Try booking out a conference or education day as it will be a great way of stepping back and really focusing on the messages you want to send out to your team and re-focus on your salon’s goals and service standards. Your product company may be able to help with education. Alternatively, you could consider having an educator come into the salon to deliver the messages you want to get across to everyone in the team, rather than just sending a few on them on a course and you not being able to measure what they’ve learnt. Try putting a suggestions board up in your staff room where the team can pin any ideas up too; it’s a great, informal way of understanding your teams’ thoughts and needs. Robert Eaton, Russell Eaton salons /20

Lead by example and don’t let problems fester. As soon as you see the problem arising, deal with it. If you don’t deal with an issue straight away, it will get worse. Be strong from the start and address the situation head on. The other thing is to reward wherever possible. Sometimes we forget to praise the good, and praising good work is a very strong motivator. If the issue is about one or two individuals not being motivated, talk to them. There can be more to the situation than meets the eye. Communication is key. It’s crucial to have a clear customer service policy in place. If your team do not know what you expect, they cannot deliver. Finally, if you are exceptionally busy, then encourage the people that are really great at leadership to share and help with the other team members. Good attitude breeds good attitude. Delegate more to the people you trust to motivate the others. Remember, the more people feel valued, the more they want to give. Tracey Devine-Smith, Affinage Global Ambassador

C A PI TA L BUSINE SS

“Although I've been running my salon for two years, recently I've found that my staff have become a bit jaded - talking to each other instead of clients and not seeming very fussed about customer service in general. I'm a bit of a one-man band when it comes to the day-to-day jobs, so I'm finding it hard to get everything else done as well as make time to keep them motivated and doing what they should - any suggestions?”

To get your team motivated and encourage them to provide the very best customer service, offer feedback; it’s extremely important and allows your staff to feel encouraged and valued. Thank your team members for the things they have done well and you will notice a big effect on their morale. If they’re not doing so well at something, provide them with targets. Targets are great for allowing team members to grow and will also encourage a bit of friendly competition in the salon, all while effectively strengthening team bonds. Holding one-to-one reviews with each member of your team can also motivate them. You can do this monthly, every few months or even annually; however you choose, reviews are a great way to keep team members encouraged and allow them to discuss any problems they might be having that you can help them with. Mark Weston, Muse of London /21

CONTEMPORARY SALONS

C A PI TA L BUSINE SS

FR A NCHISE?

CAPITAL: WHY DID YOU DECIDE ON A FRANCHISE AS OPPOSED TO STARTING FROM SCRATCH? SALLY PLAIN, FRANCHISEE, WESTROW WETHERBY: Westrow is an established, longrunning brand with an outstanding reputation both in the industry and in Yorkshire, so becoming a part of the brand, while building up my own business, was an enticing opportunity. Being part of a franchise group like Westrow means instant access to a level of support that isn’t as readily available when starting from scratch. Financial, creative and personal support are all on offer, right from the start when you open a franchise, which is ideal for boosting your confidence and giving you a source of help that you wouldn’t receive when opening an individual salon independently. Being a franchisee also means being part of a family, and having access to an invaluable support system. It was too good an opportunity to miss.

CAPITAL: IS OWNING A FRANCHISE EASIER IN SOME WAY, THAN OWNING YOUR OWN BRAND? ALAN: Yes and no! Yes, from the point of view that the franchise operation brings its wealth of experience of operating successful salons in terms of marketing, PR and training. No, from the point of not having total flexibility on how you want to run your salon. However, in franchising it’s a partnership for both franchisee and franchisor and we both want the same thing, which is for the salon to succeed. SALLY: It is and it isn’t. While the level of support gained when buying into an established brand is absolutely incomparable, you do need to weigh this up against the level of independence you are hoping to have throughout the life of your business. You will need to fit in with the brand’s core values, branding and style, so if you aren’t able to do this, franchising isn’t for you. I do believe the advantages of becoming a franchisee far outweigh this though – particularly if you choose to align yourself with a brand that’s on your wavelength. The advantages of becoming a franchisee of a well-recognised brand name are countless: you benefit from a long-standing mission statement, core values, a business strategy and direction – which wouldn’t be in place for a lone salon starting from scratch. If you’re looking to specialise in, and succeed within, a particular area of hairdressing, then becoming associated with a brand known within a particular geographical area, or one that is known within the industry, will

position you immediately ahead of where you would be starting out if you were on your own. CAPITAL: WHAT SUPPORT DOES A FRANCHISEE RECEIVE ONCE THEY’VE SIGNED THE DOTTED LINE? ARE THERE REGULAR OPPORTUNITIES FOR NETWORKING AND EDUCATION? LINDA: The franchisee receives constant support. We check in on our franchisees to see if they need any help or advice with anything and always want to help them with their growth and development. We always get our franchisees involved with industry events such as the Fellowship and invite them along to awards ceremonies that we/ members of the team have finalised for. We have a Rainbow Room International Congress and Awards every year, where we get all our franchisees and their teams together to discuss what has happened in the year, the coverage we have received, awards we have won etc., and then our Artistic Team also shows off new collections and trends before we finish the night off with our Awards Ceremony. At the ceremony we give out awards for achievements like ‘Best Salon Team’, ‘Salon of the Year’ and ‘Stylist of the Year’ etc. This is a great networking and educational opportunity for the franchisees and the teams and it's great to get our Rainbow Room International family all together in one place. We also have monthly meetings with our franchisees where we get together and talk about the brand and the salons, so that everyone knows what’s going on.

CCAAPIPITATAL LBUSINE BE AU T SS Y

ALAN SIMPSON, MANAGING DIRECTOR AND CO-OWNER, CONTEMPORARY SALONS: Anyone who does not have extensive experience in running a hair salon business, as it’s very different from running a column of clients. Having said that, we have welcomed franchisees from all backgrounds.

WHY

/22

CAPITAL: WHAT TYPE OF PERSON WOULD SUIT TAKING ON A FRANCHISE OPPORTUNITY? LINDA STEWART, OWNER OF RAINBOW ROOM INTERNATIONAL: To be a franchisee you 100 percent need to be determined to succeed, motivated, passionate about the salon and its growth and success. You also need to have many leadership qualities; you will have a team that you will need to lead and manage and you will also need to help your salon and each team member succeed. You also need to be able to follow the systems and strategies put in place by the franchisor to ensure that the brand is consistent in its quality and delivery.

CAPITAL: DOES THE FRANCHISEE RECEIVE SUPPORT WHEN IT COMES TO TAKING ON STAFF? LINDA: Yes, we have a social media team that helps promote all our salons and their recruitment needs on social media. We also get all our salons involved with events and careers days and have been to many Skills Scotland events to provide school leavers with information about our international academy, careers and apprenticeships. /24

ALAN: When a salon employs a new stylist we undertake the trade test at our academy. We then put into place the training required so the new recruit is fluent in our understanding of haircutting and customer care. SALLY: Ideally, it should do. Some of the benefits of working with a bigger brand include support with employment, on-going staff training, management training, management systems and bookings software. However, it’s important to balance these useful tools with your own skill, judgement, business and management expertise. CAPITAL: WHAT ARE THE ESSENTIAL QUALITIES THAT A FRANCHISEE SHOULD HAVE? LINDA: A franchisee should have the ability to communicate successfully, be a leader, yet also a team player. A franchisee should also be able to adapt and take risks, as well as being passionate, driven, motivated,

determined and patient. ALAN: They should have great skills either in business or hairdressing – or both! They must be willing to accept that being part of a group means that they should operate as our other salons do. SALLY: A franchisee needs to be able to think both as a business-person and as a hairdresser. They should be able to view the business from a holistic point of view, visualising how each element of the business will work. You need to be commerciallyminded, confident and robust – you will still be the boss, even if you are a franchisee, rather than an independent salon owner. However, you also have to be able to accept that as franchisee you will have to run your business in a certain way, in line with the way the brand is run.

SALLY: Business, financial, creative and personal support should all be on offer right away, so you have immediate access to accountants, legal support, business advice, as well as builders, renovators and decorators, if necessary. You may also have immediate and direct access to a PR or marketing team, which can help increase your public exposure. You’re also able to make the most of any branded marketing materials available, including loyalty cards, price guides, and business cards – all of these extras can help to make your business a success.

Once we take a new apprentice on board at Rainbow Room International, they also receive support from our academy where they can train in line with our standards and guidelines. We also promote new stylists via our PR, doing competitions with them in local papers for readers to receive free haircuts to try and help build the stylist’s column.

SALLY: The current economy can make starting a business very difficult, and not a viable option for many. Start-up costs and less access to credit can be a real barrier to many people wishing to launch their own hairdressing business: franchising makes the dream more accessible. Franchising allows you to benefit from being part of a bigger, more powerful business. It’s important to remember that you aren’t relinquishing your control, identity or independence when franchising: with the right franchise, it should mean you can still apply your own creative stamp to the business. Seek out a brand that will encourage your imagination and independent thinking. As long as you are upholding the reputation of the brand, and staying loyal to its core values, a degree of freedom is possible and should be encouraged.

CCAAPIPITATAL LBUSINE BE AU T SS Y

ALAN: Yes, we bring salons together for group training and invite leading hairdressers such as Andrew Barton, Trevor Sorbie and Lee Stafford to our education days. These sessions allow us to network and benchmark ourselves against the competition.

CAPITAL: WHY IS FRANCHISING A WORTHWHILE OPTION IN 2018? LINDA: There are so many great advantages; it allows a level of independence for the franchisee, and as a franchisor it’s great for getting your brand name out there. Having a franchise also allows for more career opportunities for your team. Team members have the chance to work their way up the ranks and eventually open their own.

CAPITAL: DOES THE FRANCHISEE HAVE TO HAVE EXPERIENCE IN BUSINESS AND/OR HAIRDRESSING? LINDA: I would say it’s important that you have experience in the hairdressing industry. At Rainbow Room International we’re fortunate that most of our franchisees have started and trained with us, working their way up – they know everything about our brand. Organic franchising is the way we prefer to work.

PARTY!

IT’S TIME TO END THE YEAR ON A HIGH! RIGHT NOW EVERYONE WANTS TO HAVE A LIT TLE FUN, WHETHER THAT’S VIA THEIR NAIL ART OR A FUN PART Y HAIRST YLE. OVER THE NEX T FEW PAGES WE SHARE TIPS AND TRENDS AND A COUPLE OF GET THE LOOKS TOO!

BIG + BOUNCY

“Big bouncy blow-dries and curls are super on-trend this winter and there are so many ways you can play with this look, whether it’s with heated styling tools, soft rollers, pins or sock buns. For clients who want a looser look there are many products that are great for creating instant waves and curls including mousses, sea salt sprays and curl creams, which are all aimed at enhancing a clients’ natural wave. One of my favourite products is Fanola Styling Tools Total Mousse Extra Strong, as it can be used in towel-dried hair and scrunched to create gorgeous curls.

/28

“For extra bounce, after applying a mousse to damp hair, I like to blow-dry the hair upside down with a diffuser and scrunch. There are also some great brushes on the market that curl hair quickly and easily when used while blow-drying, like barrel brushes and thermal brushes. Once you’ve finished creating some curls, add some hair oil for maximum bounce. Fanola Styling Tools Easy Curl Defining Cream 250ml is perfect for this and does not weigh the hair down – it’s also great on towel-dried hair that’s scrunched and left to air dry or blow-dried for healthy-looking curls. If you prefer to use a styling tool to create curls, particularly ringlet curls, I recommend curling

the hair in sections with a thin curling iron. However, for voluminous yet soft, loose waves or big curls I would recommend a barrel-style curling wand.” Andrew Beattie, Hair by JFK “Bouncy curls give a real sense of freedom and they’re easy to create. Simply split the hair into sections and wrap medium barrel tongs round each section. Once the curls have cooled, pull your fingers through the hair to release some of the curl. Finish the look with Fanola Styling Tools Power Style Extra Strong Hairspray 750ml, which will keep the curls in place while allowing some natural bounce.” Tina Farey, RUSH Hair

LINTON & MAC

“Beautiful, bouncy hair is the epitome of luxurious, sexy style when it comes to this time of year,” says Ross Charles. To get the look, Ross says: “Start by setting the hair in sections on heated rollers, which will create the base of the volume. If the client’s in need of extra volume, use a couple of clip-in extensions just behind the crown to boost fullness and shape. Once the rollers are removed, backcomb the back section from behind the ear with a fine comb. Start pinning the pieces and sections of hair at the crown, building the hair to create a beehive. Once the back beehive is created, pull some smooth sections over the top for a sleek finish.” Ross Charles, Ross Charles Hair

Here the super creative Linton & Mac team shares one of its favourite party styles… 1. Prep the hair with L'Oréal Professionnel Tecni Art Pli. 2. Part the hair straight down the middle and secure one section to keep it out of the way. JAMIE STEVENS HAIR

3. Take roughly an inch section of hair from the top of the head and secure it tightly with a coloured band. 4. Using the same technique as when plaiting the hair, take another section of hair and combine it to the first section so that the next band sits roughly 2-3 inches behind the first band. This helps to create a bigger bubble, which definitely looks better! 5. Using the end of a comb, gently pull at the hair positioned between the two bands to create your first bubble. 6. Repeat until you reach the end of the hair. 7. Repeat the process on the other side of the head.

SUPER SLEEK “Sleek looks are definitely one of my favourite party hairstyles! A slickedback hairstyle looks elegant yet sexy and is super easy to create. One of my favourite styles is a flirty ponytail. To recreate, using a gel or a serum on the hair for a sleek effect, make a high ponytail. Once you’ve created the ponytail, take a thin section of the hair and wrap it around the elastic that’s securing the ponytail a few times, and grip in place. This slicked backed style also looks great when worn off the face and straight. I always recommend that you start by backcombing the roots, as this gives the hair volume, before using a strong gel to slick all of the hair off the face or smooth it to one side behind the ear for a glamorous look. This style works best when it’s super shiny so once the gel has dried, finish by using a shine spray to give the hair some serious shine!” Karen Thomson, KAM Hair and Body Spa /31

BRAIDS, BRAIDS, BRAIDS!

Want to add gel nails to your party season services?

“Braids can be forgotten during the winter months but a braided ponytail is the perfect way to add a fun, individual edge. There are so many variations of the braid and you can completely adapt it to suit the client. Adding a Dutch braid or a classic French braid to a standard ponytail is so easy and yet can have a huge impact on the overall look. Texture is key for braided styles, so always use a texturising spray or a salt spray to give the hair some grip and don’t be afraid to backcomb the hair for some serious volume. Finish with a generous mist of hairspray to ensure the look lasts all night long.” Simon Hill, Owner of SESH Hairdressing

“As soon as party season kicks in there’s an immediate change in my client tanning requests. Autumn is all about keeping that summer glow for as long as possible, but as soon as Christmas comes, the demand to go darker comes back. It’s an opportunity to bare legs and reveal a lot more skin, so clients will be choosing deeper, darker tanning products.

WHAT IT IS The Manicure Company’s Gel Workshop WHAT YOU’LL LEARN How to apply The Manicure Company’s gel colours and a French Manicure.

In between tanning treatments I advise my clients to use an intense sugar scrub to even out any remaining tan lines from the Summer. I’ll tell them to do this on a daily basis for two or three days, ahead of using self-tanner. Also, bra straps can compound dead skin, meaning that skin in this area can appear darker, therefore leaving darker tan lines behind. It’s important to exfoliate for a few days ahead of treatment to create a glowing, even colour.” James Harknett

Everyone seems to agree; at this time of year it’s all about nails that sparkle and shine…

1. Set the hair on heated rollers and apply L’Oréal Professionnel Tecni Art Pli to give the hair more texture and movement. 2. Part the hair down the centre and gently tease wisps of hair around the face. 3. Take the left hand section of hair, starting at the temple, and gently roll it inwards until you reach below the ear. Secure the hair in place with bobby pins and repeat the process on the right hand side of the head. 4. Take the remaining loose hair and create a braid on one side, picking hair out to give the braid a 3D-effect. TIP: Use hair extensions to give a fuller, more luscious look. 5. Secure with a clear band and apply Super Light Anti Frizz Glossing Spray 150ml. 6. Finish the look by adding a floral or decorative vine to the braid.

“For AW18, glitter nails are back in season! Think sparkly and mesmerising. Glitter nail colours are particularly great for the festive season and are a fantastic way to add glamour to any outfit. Rich reds are always popular so play with cherry reds and burgundy reds that can be teamed with either a glossy or matte topcoat. Glossy and matte topcoats are so popular – the matte ones are a great option for clients who want to try something a bit edgy and unexpected.” Kelly Thornhill, Leah Durrant Hair Salon & Beauty Re:Treat

“From single dots at the centre base of the nail to ombré glitter fading from the top down, the options are limitless this season. Nude, understated nails paired with one simple dot in a berry shade is a simple yet striking Winter look, and the use of chunky gold glitter alongside soft, pale pinks is something we can expect to see more of. It’s all about eccentric accents, abstract design and lots of glitter! Kirsty Rodziewicz, Perfectly Posh Salon

Darker shades look particularly striking on shorter nails, especially those with a rounded or oval shape. “Winter is so harsh on the hair, so I always advise my clients to remember that their hair is just as important as their skin. I advise clients to come in every six weeks to have their hair cut, especially before the colder months begin; it’s great to get rid of all the dead ends and start afresh. I would then recommend in-salon conditioning treatments.” Jay Birmingham, Jay Birmingham Hair “Firstly, I advise clients who want to carry out home care on their hair, to maximise the conditioning treatments by leaving them on overnight. Once the product is applied, tell them to wrap the hair in clingfilm, which will create heat and intensify the treatment. I also encourage clients to make use of Winter accessories, like hats, to protect the hair from the harsh conditions.” Andy Heasman, International Creative Director, RUSH Hair

“Deep conditioning treatments are essential during Winter as they help hair retain moisture and nourishment and keep it looking and feeling strong, manageable and healthy. In the salon we offer a number of treatments as well as aftercare products. I always advise clients use a deep conditioning mask/ treatment at home once or twice a week and then come into the salon every two to three months for a more intense treatment. Salon treatments are also a great way of encouraging client loyalty as a treatment can make your client feel pampered and special.” Mathew Watt, Mathew Watt Hair

“As we head into Winter, the drop in temperature can have a very harsh, immediate effect on the hair. It’s essential that you encourage clients to take precautions in order to protect their hair from losing its condition and also, its colour! I would always recommend a deep conditioning treatment at home to inject key nutrients back into the hair, ensuring that they are locked in and providing a barrier for the hair.” Chris Williams, International Colour Director, RUSH Hair

Hair treatments shouldn’t just be reserved for summer: while the damaging effects of the sun’s rays, chlorine and sea water are well-documented, hair is just as susceptible to damage in Winter, so I always recommend that my clients indulge in hair treatments throughout the season. Central heating can have a drying effect on the hair, while rain can open the hair cuticle and cause it to lose moisture. On top of this we also tend to rely on our hairdryers more in winter, so treatments are essential. I frequently advise that my clients also incorporate a daily-use product into their at-home haircare routine: a product they can use with each shampoo to help seal the cuticle, reduce moisture loss and stop the hair from frizzing – another common Winter hair complaint.

Hair extensions are a great option for clients who are finding that their hair has become thin, brittle and damaged during the Winter and want to add some body and volume while their natural hair grows back. At the Northern Hair Loss Clinic, we offer a huge range of extensions – from taped to Nanorings – so there is something to suit every hair type, texture and condition. Hair gloss will help to recondition the hair, giving it an injection of shine and reviving dull colour. The winter weather can leave hair looking duller, especially after the summer months have left colour looking faded, so a hair gloss is great for illuminating the hair and adding vibrancy.

LET’S FACE IT… “Our skin tends to become very dry and dehydrated during the Winter; the lack of moisture in the air paired with the biting cold climate really does take its toll. It’s important to inject some moisture back into the skin and an ultrahydrating and moisturising facial is a great way to do so. A facial penetrates the skin beneath the surface and encourages collagen production, the vital ingredient that improves the elasticity of the skin, giving it that plump, glowing look that goes hand in hand with hydration.” Kirsty Rodziewicz, Perfectly Posh Hair Design

FEET: “Feet need looking after all year round – not just in the Summer months when they’re more likely to be on show! Consider offering ‘Winter warmer’nourishing pedicures to target dry skin in the colder months. “We’ve found the perfect blonde for clients with high maintenance colour looking for something low maintenance in the cooler months: ‘toasted coconut' is all about a soft root stretch merging into cool warm tones.” Amber Rigg, Bond Hair Religion “The biggest Autumn hair colour trend is golden honey balayage – warmer hues blending with a natural base level. Added depth creates contrast and dimension within the hair and is created with a mixture of highlights and warmer lowlights, with a base tone on the natural root area, or working with the clients’ natural level depth." Nikita Fisher, Jamie Stevens “We’re moving away from flat grey and silver colours and onto icy platinum blondes. Instead of a light or flat brown, it’s about smoky browns; dark browns with a smoky edge. Balayage is still on-trend and works nicely with warm blonde tones as opposed to a dark blonde.
