EDITOR’S LETTER It seems like only yesterday that we were getting ready for 2016 and making plans – and what a busy year it’s been. But, although the end of the year is approaching, we’re definitely not winding down! In this issue we’re sharing the secrets of top hair stencilling expert, Janine Ker, page 14, talking dog grooming with Sarah Fowler on page 32 and asking some of our favourite stylists what they’ve got planned for 2017 over on page 38. As always, we’re sharing our favourite collections on page 42, to keep those creative juices flowing throughout the festive period, and we’re also focused on nails on page 26 with top tips from OPI, IBD and Gellux.

JUST IN TIME FOR THE FESTIVE SEASON!

ALL THAT GLITTERS… What we love most about Gellux’s new Glitz and Glam collection is that, just by playing with eight shades, it can offer up an endless supply of nail inspiration, perfect for party season and beyond. There are some gorgeous, deep reds: Killer Heels and Invite Only, as well as a stunning fuchsia red/pink in the form of Best Dressed. That all important glitter factor is supplied by Glitz, a pretty peach glitter, Glam (pink), All That Glitters (yellow gold) and Let’s Party, a cool Champagne tone. Finally, there’s a very on-trend rich purple: Love The Look – a definite winter essential. £11.95/€14.98 each

REGAL

IBD adds to its ever-growing shade range with the brand new Just Gel Imperial Affair, a collection of eight regal tones. Choose from Gilded Duchess, a shimmering, rich and warm bronze; Grand Gesture – a deep, bitter chocolate with a touch of shimmer; Tisk Tisk, a fresh, cool blue, perfect for spring, and five more fashion-forward tones. £9.50/€11.90 each

SUCH A CLASSIC

We absolutely love OPI’s new Breakfast at Tiffany’s collection. Available in Lacquer and GelColor options there are way too many colours for us to list here, but a couple of our faves include the pretty, icy blue of I Believe In Miracles, and Fire Escape Rendezvous, a glorious, matte ruby shade with a hint of glitter. For those who find it hard to choose, or want to share the OPI love for Christmas, there are four lovely gift sets that include four or 10 mini shades, as well as some must-buy OPI essentials, including the beloved Avojuice in a limited edition mini format. Lacquer: £5.00/€6.00 each; GelColor: £14.95/€18.75 each Gift sets from £5.55/€7.00

MIRROR, MIRROR…

Sinful is really pushing the nail game ahead with its latest launch of the brilliant Sinful Mirror Powder – check out our social media to see what all the fuss is about! The powder contains real silver to provide the most mirror-like effect for nails – and it won’t dull after it’s been cured. Use over different nail colours to create a variety of effects. Be warned; chrome nails are a super hot trend and you absolutely need to offer this in your salon ahead of the festive period! While the Mirror Powder offers a stunning gleam, Cosmetic Glitters are all about creating vibrant shine. Available in eight colours, our favourite shade is Golden Bronze as it will suit any skin tone and will also look stunning once the sun comes back. Eventually. Mirror

PKAI

GET THE LOOK First up, we’ve chosen this big, beautiful look from Kai Wan of Pkai salon.

Kai Wan tells us about the colour, before breaking down the style:

Volume Mousse was applied section by section for thorough coverage. Everything was blowdried with a large ceramic radial brush to create great volume at the roots and when finished we then put heated rollers in for a few minutes just to support the style. After the hair had cooled a bit we took the rollers out and brushed through the hair with a paddle brush to loosen up the waves and curls. We finished with a little EIMI Hairspray to hold the style in shape.

“We started with lots of very fine highlights with bleach, using Wella Blondor 9% and Olaplex. We then toned with Wella Illumina using the shade 10/38 and 9/60 with pastel developer. “To style, we started with Wella SP Luxe Oil for healthy shine and then EIMI Extra

GET THE LOOK Our second look is this rock chic style from Jake Ungar and Issie Churcher, members of the HOB Creative Team. Jake says: “Rock Chic is all about looking cool and undone. This look is about effortless sex appeal while still maintaining a grungy street cred edge. It’s about embracing your client’s natural texture; think heavy fringe and lots of texture on medium hair to give it lots of movement. Colour-wise we went for shades of black velvet and onyx, to give the look a bespoke edge with a glamorous finish.” To get the look, use a conditioning, priming product and add some EIMI Sugar Lift to

damp hair. This will give volume and a nice, grippy texture. Next, rough dry the hair using a Denman brush; the shape and texture of the cut should help the hair to sit nicely. Using a small round brush, take small sections to create the flicked ends. Then move onto the fringe, smoothing it out with a flat brush. Finally, finish with an ultra firm hairspray to set the shape in place.

Janine Ker What’s your first hair memory? My first hair memory is probably in 5th grade. At the time, the early ‘90s, combing your bangs (fringe) into a large wave was in. I was known for that. What’s been the biggest lesson you’ve learned from your career? Stay humble. No matter how many great days you have behind the chair, there is always a humbling moment when you just don’t get it perfect and you miss the mark. Who/what inspires you when it comes to your work? I find inspiration from within my experiences and interests. Right now, I’m enjoying going back into my mental archives of growing up in the ‘90s. Nature is forever an inspiration, and other Instagram hairstylists keep me current too. Biggest career ‘wow’ moment so far? Hair stencilling becoming a ‘thing’! Tell us about hair stencilling. When did you first start playing with the trend? I saw the technique done about four years ago, but it was very basic. The idea of taking it further and combining it with fundamental art skills sat in my mind for a few years before

I had the mental space to do it (I was learning so much at the time as I was still starting out behind the chair). So I officially experimented with it earlier this year. Why do you think stencilling has become such a popular trend? I think the idea itself is fascinating to people, plus the fact that it is do-able. What’s been your most popular hair image on Instagram? I would say it was my pink polka dot bob – it’s had the most reposts and attention. Aside from hair stencilling, what’s your other fave hair trend right now? I love the idea of girls shaving their heads! It exposes their essential femininity, and to me, that is very stylish. >

JANINE’S HAIR STENCILLING STEPS! Want to try the trend for yourself? Check out Janine’s easy steps below.

1

Pick a hairstyle – working with an area that will stay still helps a lot, like a ponytail, topknot, or twin buns, for example.

2

Choose a design – you can make a stencil or buy one at a craft store.

3

Pick your colours! Look out for temporary sprays sprays or check out our Colorsmash range. Choose from Pink, Violet and Indigo.

Available in 3.7oz £8.95/€10.95 each.

4

Hold the stencil firmly in place.

5

Shake the colour spray can and spray from at least six inches away (I recommend trying it on a piece of paper first to get the feel of using the stencil and spray together).

MONDAY Up at 6am, I walk the dog and then go over to Shoreditch for my Natural Born Blonde shoot that I’ve been planning for months. Paul Edmonds and Alfie from the salon did the styling and all the colours were done by me last week. I’ve decided on a classic balayage, a creative balayage and a tri-colour with micro balayage. These are all different blondes and will be shown on all age groups. The models all happen to be my colour clients too. There’s Hannah Cooper from Next; Emma Louise Connelly from Storm and Karen Clancy (Abbey Clancy’s mum). The day is brilliant fun; the team work non-stop and we have a videographer recording everything.

TUESDAY Back in the salon, it’s an early start as we’ve got the senior team management meeting, where we reflect on the previous week and upcoming events. It’s something we see as an integral part of running a successful business. At 10am I have a magazine interview for an upcoming top secret project, and I spend the rest of that day working on it! It’s something a little different and people wouldn’t necessarily associate me with it, which is what makes it especially interesting.

WEDNESDAY Today I’m on the salon floor, just working, working, working with my little balayage brush. Considering it’s August and London normally closes down, I’ve actually been really busy and looking after a busy column every day. I write up some trend quotes when I get home, usually around 7pm. I then spend some time on social media and update my blog.

THURSDAY Secret shoot day! I literally can’t say anything about this but, it’s fun – it will be published in December and I’m really excited about it. It’s my first editorial and I’m working with Paul on it.

FRIDAY Back behind the chair. My wonderful client, the Brazilian model, Ana Beatriz Barros, is getting married in Mykonos, and I’m lucky enough to be invited so it’s a late night dash to the airport now!

SATURDAY I get up and go for a swim, enjoying the view from my hotel and just reading a little. A car picks me up at 7pm and I need my ID as everything’s top secret. The location is stunning; I’ve never, ever been to an event like this in my life! Ana looks so beautiful. The dance area and eating area are all built into the cliff top and Earth, Wind and Fire are the wedding band! Not often you get all of that somewhere as beautiful as Mykonos. We party until 4.30am, surrounded by beautiful people – I feel like the odd man out but what wonderful fun!

SUNDAY And, relax… /21

PETER PROSSER

What’s your fave classic look? Brian: I think a chignon is a timeless look that suits all ages. I always encourage a simple shape that doesn’t look over-styled; think minimal volume with an almost matte finish and a slightly dishevelled feel – very Bardot. It’s more youthful than a stiff, structured shape and always looks better as the night goes on.

HALO HAIR AND BEAUTY

GALLAGHER HORNER

GALLAGHER HORNER

Neil: Never underestimate the clean, chic ponytail. For a glam look, it needs to be sleek and sophisticated. Whether it’s worn high or low, smooth the hair into position and finish with hairspray to catch any flyaways. For a touch of something extra, take a section of the ponytail and wrap it around the base of the ponytail. Smooth serum into the hair to minimise any frizz and then finally, blitz all over with a shine spray to add some extra gloss.

What’s your favourite modern take on a party look? Brian: Right now, I’m all about elevating the ponytail to new heights – literally! This classic style looks so fresh worn high up on the head with a dual texture finish. You’ll need to coat roots in a generous amount of hair oil or wet-look gel, then use a paddle brush to achieve the neatest possible ponytail. Secure with a strong, no-snag band (or even two for extra hold), then wrap the base of the pony in a strip of leather or PVC fabric. Use irons on the length to create a sleek, shiny texture and tame any stray hairs around the hairline with an old toothbrush and a little hairspray. Neil: I think a lot of women opt for curls when it comes to getting party-ready. We see a lot of soft, glamorous, manicured waves but I like to see something a little more wild and full of attitude. Curls should be worn loud

and proud! I like to blowdry the hair smooth, then create tight curls with a tong. Then just use your fingers to pull through the curls and tease the hair out to create a voluminous and fluffy effect. Finally, set in place with a strong hairspray! Name your top three party styling essentials Brian: My three must-haves this season are volumising mousse (it’s making a comeback and is the perfect prepping product for all hair lengths), shine spray (who doesn’t love a glossy finish?) and hairspray to ensure the look lasts all night. Neil: Start with a good hair primer that evens out the hair fibres, followed by a serum to reduce frizz and humidity. This will create the perfect base for styling. Volumising products are the perfect solution for adding some oomph into your clients’ hair; volume and body is essential for any party season style! Where’s a great place to find party season hair inspo? Brian: Aside from my favourite glossy magazines the best place for party hair ideas right now is Pinterest. It’s utterly addictive and full of inspiration. Neil: Look to the autumn/winter catwalks for inspiration, as that’s often where trends emerge and begin. /23

GELLUX TALKS WINTER COLOUR WITH SALON SYSTEM NAIL EXPERT JULIE-ANNE LARIVIÈRE The colour trend this winter will take on a very gothic feel. We’ll see dark hues such as plums, navy, deep reds and so on. The Salon System GELLUX Glitz and Glam collection hits this trend right on the head. Hues such as Invite Only, Killer Heels and Love the Look are all deep and dark tones.

When it comes to nail art trends, we’ll see sparkles and shimmer, which are ideal for the party season. Half-moon manicures will be incredibly popular too. They have a real vintage vibe and can be created to suit most styles and nail shapes. We’ll also see some bold and bright floral patterns, which will add contrast when used with a dark hue as a base.

INSTANT PARTY NAIL?

A very simple yet effective party nail look is to paint nails with a dark base and then paint a layer of glitter over the top. I’d use Love the Look and then one coat of Glitz over the top. It adds just the right amount of glitter and is so quick and easy to create.

KEY NAIL SHAPE FOR WINTER?

It will be mostly short, oval nails – squovals! But there will be no more squared nails. It’s a natural look that we’re trying to recreate.

WHAT’S THE NAIL TREND WE NEED TO SAY ‘BUH-BYE’ TO? For winter we’ll say goodbye to bright nail shades and long, squared nails.

WHAT’S THE PRODUCT NO NAIL TECH SHOULD BE WITHOUT?

I love my GELLUX Remover Sachets. They’re so handy, whether you’re salon-based, mobile or doing session work! They’re individual sachets with a pre-soaked remover pad, which you just slip onto the nail to soak off gels. > /27

OPI EDUCATOR ELISHA WHITEN TALKS TRENDS

What we’re loving right now is the Washington DC palette; it delivers a dramatic, sophisticated spin on classic hues. Our top three shades are the authoritative red of We The Female; the treasury-worthy deep olive of Suzi – The First Lady of Nails and CIA = Colour Is Awesome, a smart, dusky blue for secret agent fashionistas. When it comes to trends, just like the winter fashion looks, it’s all about dark hues. Winter nails are also seeing a gothic overhaul, as we see more black polish and the darkest of greys. Three great ways to work the winter trends are: Matte topcoats and the addition of glitter to add an alternative spin on classic dark shades. Silver additions to a manicure will also be key for winter. This may be through an all-over metallic polish, dual tone manicures, accent nails or nail art.

Scandal star Kerry Washington is the latest OPI spokesmodel and is wearing We The Female Colour Is Awesome

The First Lady of Nails

We The Female

Negative space nail looks were very popular last year and are back again for winter. A negative space manicure is perfect for adding a subtle twist to your clients’ favourite lacquer colour!

INSTANT PARTY NAIL?

Shimmers and glitter are always popular for an instant party nail look; they’re the perfect addition to completing festive outfits. /28

KEY NAIL SHAPE FOR WINTER?

I would say short and squoval; it’s a gorgeous shape to wear with a dark colour, in particular Lincoln Park After Dark or a classic Big Apple red.

WHAT’S THE NAIL TREND WE NEED TO SAY ‘BUH-BYE’ TO?

I would say the crackle effect, as perfectly polished, classic nails are very on-trend right now, especially with the bold colours of our Washington collection. >

IBD’S INTERNATIONAL ELITE EDUCATOR JESSICA MARKS GIVES HER TAKE ON COLOUR AND STYLE TRENDS For colour, my top picks are:

My top three nail art trends are:

Patchwork is a grey that suits all skin tones and gives you the perfect neutral without going nude.

Dark to berry tones on short neat nails.

Bella Boudoir is an inviting, rich shade. Berry tones are always a winter classic and a must for mature skin as they give hands added warmth – the shimmer is perfect for the festive season too!

Glitter, glitter and more glitter! No party is a party without it!

Midnight martini is a fabulous multi-glitter, ideal for the party season and those wanting a darker look.

INSTANT PARTY NAIL?

Adding a simple glitter ombré to your neutral looks, like Candy Blast with Patchwork, or try Dockside Diva with All That Glitters for an instant ‘wow’ factor.

KEY NAIL SHAPE FOR WINTER?

Rounded, oval and the long almond shape featured heavily on the winter 2016 catwalks, but for everyday nails, short, neat and naturally soft shapes like the classic squoval will be key.

WHAT’S THE NAIL TREND WE NEED TO SAY ‘BUH-BYE’ TO?

The accent ring finger nail! It’s been here and there for over a few years now. Let’s mix it up and have a couple of different accent nails; the mismatched mani isn’t going anywhere I’m sure, but don’t just stick with only the ring fingers. Get adventurous!

WHAT’S THE PRODUCT NO NAIL TECH SHOULD BE WITHOUT?

Gel polish of course! It has changed the nail industry and added a whole new meaning to chip-free and smudge-proof. /30

Changing it up; go for a mismatched mani or an alternative/reverse French mani.

How long have you been in the dog grooming business? I initially trained at Kingston Maurward College, in Dorchester (known for courses in horticulture and agriculture), but wasn’t in the position to pursue my passion as an actual career. After studying Retail Management at Bournemouth University I worked for Capital Hair & Beauty as a store manager in Bournemouth. I then relocated to Essex to follow my heart and was then chosen to be part of a small team to launch Valspar (a precision colour matching firm from the US) in the UK across all B&Q stores, with my area being London. After a crazy three years it was time to head back to the coast for some sea air! I decided to follow my dreams and took a refresher course and never looked back. Where is your store based? Canine Design is in East Preston, West Sussex. A beautiful seaside village and dog-friendly!

How many employees do you have? After only six months of trade I already have one member of staff. I’m always on the lookout for the right people so that I can expand.

What’s the most popular service that you offer? Cockapoos are a very popular breed, so a cute Teddy cut is top of the list of services.

Is there such a thing as a typical day for you? Never! Where dogs are involved it’s always madness – but that’s what I love.

You’re a Capital customer; what do you buy from Capital that suits your canine clients? All my everyday products can be purchased from Capital. I am lucky to have the Brighton store nearby as well as the Worthing local. I can purchase all my cleaning materials such as couch roll, barbicide etc.

Every day is different; one minute you can be grooming a senior dog with health issues then a puppy arrives for its introduction. Both experiences are challenging but equally rewarding. Do you have your own pets? We have two rescue dogs; Charleston and Rosie. How often do your ‘regulars’ come in? Typically I see my regulars every six to eight weeks. But I often get a call about a naughty dog who has rolled in ‘something,’ so needs a wash and blast ASAP!

But I can also buy salon equipment such as trolleys and hairdryers. I find Capital more reasonably priced than grooming suppliers. Do you have any advice for someone who’s thinking about opening a grooming business? If you love dogs and are prepared to work hard then this could be the career for you!

FURNITURE

A NEW BEGINNING

I’ve been running a hair salon from this premises for around 25 years now. After my franchise agreement ended I decided to change the salon name and give the salon a full re-fit. My aim with the new look of the salon was to give it a modern, sleek feel, with clean lines and lots of light. I wanted to make it somewhere we could give our clients a great service in a relaxing, modern environment, with small touches such as reclining hair basin chairs with foot rests, to make them feel pampered.

FINDING INSPIRATION I had clear ideas in mind when I started my research into how I wanted the salon to look. I did a lot of research on the internet, looking at other hair salons, but I also took ideas from restaurants and bars, such as feature walls, lighting, tiling and flooring. As I was changing the size of the salon and losing the first floor, the staff room and toilet facilities were now being fitted into the ground floor which would mean reducing space. This meant that I needed to spend a considerable amount of time reviewing the plan drawings and changing the layout of the new salon to get the best use of the space, as the layout is unusual in that the shape is a triangle. I decided that the clean look of the white walls was what I wanted but I didn’t want it to look too clinical. By adding the grey brick feature wall, grey flooring and bright artwork we were able to add the dose of colour that I wanted and together, all the elements gave the salon a completely modern update.

BUDGET TIME

I did have a budget in mind but of course there are always unexpected issues that pop up that are not taken into account, especially as the building is quite old. To keep the budget under control I designed the salon layout and decor myself. I also decided to add a few extra items to the decor as I went along, such as the feature concrete toilet roll holder, additional artwork on the walls and the glass screen behind the reception desk. So although I did go over my budget, it was mainly because I added additional items as the re-fit progressed.

WORKING WITH CAPITAL

The Capital team were fantastic with their advice and help on what new furniture would give the salon the look that I wanted to achieve. Bobby was on hand all of the time to answer any questions I had and to give advice on products. Even though I had lots of questions over a long period of time, right from the planning stages, ordering the salon furniture/equipment to delivery and aftercare, the team were fantastic and I can’t thank them enough. I decided on Salon Ambience equipment and furniture because I wanted high quality products. Capital in Hither Green are a major supplier of Salon Ambience and have a great showroom, so you can get a good look at the equipment before ordering and obtain advice before purchasing.

MY REVAMP TIPS

My top tip for someone wanting to revamp their salon is: know your budget! It’s also a must to have a contingency fund and make sure you spend time checking and

re-checking the plans to ensure all the sizing is correct. Work with good builders and suppliers like Capital; when you are planning a re-fit of any property, you do find that you have a lot of questions to ask so having the right people around is important. However I have found that in the end you should go with your gut instinct as it is usually the right choice.

CLIENT FEEDBACK

Our clients have been amazing with their lovely reactions and support for the new look salon. I have a lot of long-standing regular clients who have been coming to the salon for many years and all of them have been supportive and love the new look. We have also gained lots of new clients who have either seen our new website, walked or driven past the salon or heard about the salon from friends, which is great! The new look has really helped to get our salon noticed. Visit www.shorterco.london for more information /35

We are doing a lot next year. As well as doing our first voluntary project with a local Canberra women’s refuge, we’re planning on raising money for Hair Aid’s ‘Brush With Fame’ campaign. Essentially, top stylists and celebrities donate a hairbrush and it gets auctioned online to raise funds. We’re also entering quite a few awards, and personally, I’ve set a few goals for myself; more photo shoots, expanding our team and I’ve already blocked out every Wednesday of 2017 to be more hands-on with my junior team members. Jenni Tarrant, Bond Hair Religion

2016 will take some beating; we were named BHA Southern Hairdresser of the Year and Salon Business Colour Salon of the Year! In 2017, our focus is on expanding our team and growing the business, then increasing our clientele to match. We’ll also be supporting Revlon Professional as much as possible and entering the British Hairdressing Awards Colour Technician category. Ceri Cushen, Metropolis Hairdressing

ROBERT KIRBY

Having just grown from three to five salons, we’re embracing service and training in a very big way, thus ensuring clients get the full Idlewild experience, regardless of which salon they visit. We’re also planning more salon openings and are committed to continuously breathing new life into our team and business using fashion, product technology and brilliant service. We will be continuing our commitment to introducing new initiatives and bringing new products into the salon every month. Mark Creed, Technical Director, Idlewild Hairdressing

For 2017, I want to ensure that we continue to help as many people who are suffering from hair loss as possible. For me, there is nothing more satisfying than transforming a client’s confidence. We will be launching our own product line aimed at clients with scalp issues, as well as a range suitable for human hair wigs and extensions – it’s going to be another busy year! Simone Thomas, hair loss expert / founder of Simone Thomas Salons

We’re really focusing on bringing our team up. We’ve worked really hard on our training academy and want to get our apprentices trained and part of the team as soon as they’re ready. Kai Wan, Wella Platform Artist and Director at Pkai Hair /39

I want to continue to develop and deliver a convention breaking brave new world of luxury artist driven brands to the UK & Ireland. I recently launched Creative Culture Brands Ltd so it’s an exciting time for me; this brand portfolio is exactly what I wanted, but I never knew it. It’s a dream coming true, although it’s also a lot of hard work and new territory for me. Alastair Gourley, Pickle PR

We have some exciting expansion plans for the salon and a new direction for the product range that we will be implementing throughout 2017. My main aim is to stay focused and concentrate on each project until completion without being distracted or diversifying, which can sometimes happen in our business! We also need to adhere to strict timelines and make sure everything happens when it should – in order to do this I will ensure I have the best team around me and be better at delegating where I need to. I will be continuing to support all our team members to grow and develop their skills and continue to work at maintaining the highest levels of service and customer care every day in the salon. Finally, I suppose I should say I will give up my consumption of red wine but that will never happen! Joanna Hansford, Managing Director Jo Hansford /40

At Ibiza Hair, we’re about to undergo a major renovation, which will see the salon grow to five times the size it is currently. We’re looking forward to expanding our loyal clientele and our team! For Code Black Barbershop, we have plans to expand our service offering and our team – we can’t wait to bring something different to the area where we are located. We are planning on shooting with Andrew O’Toole for both the 2017 Australian Hair Fashion Awards and 2017 Hair Expo Awards, capitalising on our Win and Finalist nominations in the 2016 awards. Michael Piastrino, Director/Owner, Ibiza Hair and Code Black Barbershop

We’ve had an incredible year, taking on some fabulous new clients, including Hot Tools Pro and Wella Events & Education. I don’t tend to make resolutions as I believe we are all creatures of habit and saying I’m going to do more or less of something doesn’t just happen on 1st January. However the one thing I consciously decide on every new year, is that I will have a happy balance of business and pleasure. On a personal level I just try and make a pact to myself that I will appreciate everything around me and enjoy the simple things. Once you do that, everything else just seems to fall into place. Emma Summersby, Director Summersby Media

SCHWARZKOPF PROFESSIONAL Schwarzkopf Professional is one of the few brands that puts a huge emphasis on consistently evolving new imagery to keep its salon clients inspired and on-track. KARINE JACKSON Karine Jackson was a recent star interview of ours and she is a true believer in pushing yourself to produce inspired and inspiring hair collections. What we love most about this collection – called Why Label It? – is how Karine is thoroughly fixated on 2017’s key trends for bright yellows, greens and rose golds, mixing them in with fashion-forward graphic lines and texture. Hair: Karine Jackson | Makeup: Margaret Aston | Styling: Leticia Dare | Photography: Andrew O’Toole

KEN PICTON If you’re only inspired by one hairdresser for 2017, Ken Picton is the one to watch. Year in, year out, Ken pushes himself and his team to create the most on-trend collections. Choosing professional models as well as ‘found’ models, Ken’s Antishoot is inspired by British fashion campaigns and aims to create examples of raw, undone beauty. RAE PALMER We’re firm fans of Rae Palmer here at Capital, and from this collection – aptly titled La Blu – it’s easy to see why. The result is a collection that could inspire salons year upon year, as no two images are the same. The colour work here is just superb.
