We are so excited to share the Pride Center’s accomplishments for 2013! Simply put, the Pride Center makes life better for LGBTQ people in the Capital Region. Our programs reflect the diversity of needs and interests in our community, and we are proud to have grown to have something of interest for everyone. This year, with your support, we doubled our team and grew programs to include HIV testing, health insurance enrollment assistance, and clinical support for youth. In honor of the remarkable achievement of 30 years of supporting LGBTQ youth, we launched Youth in Power, an LGBTQ Youth Camp. Be sure to check out the two page spread highlighting this incredible experience! Our existing programs remained strong throughout the year, and some even got a facelift as we renovated the garden level space. For some community members, the Center is the first place they entered without feeling fear or judgment—where they feel completely safe and comfortable. For others, it offers an opportunity to give back or make change through volunteerism or philanthropy. Because of our incredible community, we are able to connect thousands of LGBTQ people to our vital services and educate hundreds of educators and service providers throughout our ten county region. In addition to the past year’s successes and a quick peek at an exciting future, this report is also a testament—a heartfelt thank you to all of the Center’s supporters and volunteers. You are the Pride Center. We know we could not do this work without you. Please enjoy the 2013 Annual Report and thank you for your continued support. This is YOUR Pride Center!

Center Youth CELEBRATED 30th anniversary with first ever Pride Center LGBTQ Youth camp;
ENGAGES 16 youth leaders providing training to educators in over 100 schools;

BUILDS capacity in schools, starting and supporting Gay Straight Alliances.
“ I would just like to say THANK YOU. My daughter is 15 and discovered your resources when she was 14 years old. She has attended dances, and is now actively planning Alternative Prom. Since discovering the Pride Center she has finally been able to find a group of kids that she identifies with and feels open with, kids that understand her and kids she enjoys being around. She is a completely different, happier girl and I owe a lot of that to you guys. She has all the support in the world from her dad and I, but now she also has support and encouragement from her new friends and family at the Pride Center.” — ERIN
“ The pride center helped me when my family would not accept me. They fostered a certain confidence in myself as a member of the larger LGBTQ community. I have since gone on to be a completely financially independent and openly serving cadet at West Point.” — ACACIA, 18

“ Our son was so glad to hook-up with the group last night! And, while I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again ~ we are so grateful for the opportunity for him to participate with what the Pride Center has to offer. He has benefited tremendously from being involved, in ways we as his parents couldn’t provide. I simply cannot come up with adequate words to describe how special and important this organization is. Where would we be without you?!??!?”
“ The Pride Center has helped me out so much and I always felt loved and accepted whenever I went to any of your events.” — SEAN, 15
“ I’m thankful for the Pride Center because it gives me a sense of community, love, and hope for the future.” — GAB, 18

“ The center has become my home over the years, and all of you my family. There is no way for me to explain how much of an impact this entity has had on my transition, my recovery, and my life, since that night almost 11 years ago when I showed up on your doorstep, still living in a rehab and desperately needing a safe place to figure out exactly who and what I was.” — STEPHANIE

“ I’m thankful for the Pride Center because they work tirelessly to empower youth and bring their voice to the forefront. At age 17, the Pride Center saw something special in me, before anyone else did. They provided me with emotional support, financial aid, and long-lasting friendships at a time when I needed it most. These friendships have allowed me to contextualize my life as a young queer male, and recognize the need for unity within our community. My history with the Pride Center has inspired me to understand, listen, learn, and grow as a queer activist. With their continued guidance, I have gone on to make significant differences within the queer communities in Plattsburgh, Brockport, Hudson, and now New York City. I am beyond appreciative of everything the Pride Center does, and I am so thankful to have them in my life.” — CHARLIE, 21

“ The Pride Center is unique in that it stands alone in its type of work for the benefit of local LGBTQ people, and I want those out there who think that they are alone in their struggles to have the kind of help that I got when I needed it. The Pride Center was there for me when I needed it the most. The youth program continues to be one of the safest environments I have for sharing ideas, expressing concerns, and meeting new friends.” — NICK
