ature photography is one of the most popular genres – who hasn’t walked past amazing scenery and tried to take a snapshot with whatever device was handy. Human beings have always been fascinated by nature and its creations and tried to depict them in some way – from cave paintings to classical art and contemporary landscapes.

Nature photographers though, are weird creatures – they are able to hike for hours in the rain, mud, snowstorm or blazing heat and then camp for a week or a month to get a single killer-shot. Of all types of photography – nature photography must be the most difficult one - being at the mercy of the elements of weeks on end, hiding in a damp small hut just to have that animal pass before your lens, or spending a fortune to be on location just when Aurora Borealis is out in the sky. It takes a lot of dedication to keep getting up at 3 a.m. and drive through that storm seven times to get the breathtaking sunrise you want. It takes even more dedication to take thousands upon thousands of images and wait for seven years to get that shot of a bird and its prey.

Most non-photographers know nothing of all the efforts, hard work and dedication behind each shot that adorns their favourite page or their computer screen. Truth is that being a nature photographer is something more than just pressing a button. Nature photography means that you have to feel part of the cycles and in tune with the elements to be able to capture the spirit of the place or the character of the animal.

This issue took us a while to compile but it’s certainly worth the long wait. All authors that confided in us and chose to send their portfolios to our editorial team are both amazing at what they do and in tune with nature – these 18 people have all understood that nature is to be preserved and with their works they all show us the hidden gems of the land. It’s often an image that raises awareness – that a place needs preservation or a species needs protection.

y name is Krasi Matarov and I am a professional photographer. I live in Sofia (Bulgaria). For last 7 years I’ve learnt how to ‘steal’ moments and to catch different weather conditions. So far, I boast with a few self-organized exhibitions and an array of first places in national and international photo contests. My works are exhibited in London, Warsaw, Moscow, Bratislava, Luxembourg, China, Turkey, Greece, Bulgaria and more. I am the winner of the Open Category ‘Nature & Wildlife’ Sony World Photography Awards 2013 contest, where I competed alongside 122 000 participants from all over the world and this trophy is the most important achievement I have acquired so far. I am also in the list of the top 10 best world’s macro photographers by www.topteny.com. Photography is my profession, which gives me the possibility to feel part of nature and communicate with it. I show this dialogue in my works. I try to pass on my photographic skills and knowledge to my students, while constantly working

DAVE STAMBOULIS Location: Thailand

’m a Greek born, American raised travel writer and photographer who has been based in Bangkok, Thailand for the past 12 years. I spend much time with my camera looking for celebrations of life around the planet. I started my photo career while riding a bicycle 45,000 kilometres around the world, which led to a book about my journey, Odysseus’ Last Stand, and subsequently further trips spent documenting disappearing cultures, out of the way places, and lesser touristed spots. With the world becoming smaller and more homogenous by the day, I think that photography is a wonderful medium for preserving and remembering cultures, ways of life, and moments in time that we may never experience again. The camera can also serve as a bridge between strangers, often breaking down bar-

My photography has been featured regularly on the BBC, in travel guidebooks like Lonely Planet, The Rough Guides, and Fodor’s Travel, and I publish in magazines throughout the Asia region. I especially enjoy portrait photography of ethnic minorities and tribal cultures, and also love mountain landscapes, and spend much of my time trekking in the high mountains of the world, from the Himalayas to Pamirs, Andes, and more.

Q1. What kind of gear do you use? Q2. Which is your favorite lens? Why? My favorite Lens is Nikon 14-24 f/2.8; mainly because the type of photography that I normally do is Landscape Photography, both day and night, and I need a wide angle in order to be able to capture the entire scene.

Q3. When you go travelling, what do you put in the bag? Why? It depends on the destination, but in addition to the equipment mentioned above, I always include a pack of 10 Compact Flash cards and a remote-control shutter release and headlamp to give light in the dark. Q4. You probably have a lot of gadgets. Is there something you wish you haven’t bought? Why? I love gadgets and, whenever possible, I buy everything that helps me to obtain stunning images. One of my latest adquisitions has been a swivel stabilizer for panoramic views. Something else to buy? I would love to have a Wacom Cintic 27QHD !!!

Q5. What are your camera settings when on location? It depends on the type of photograph being carried out. Aperture – Daytime between f/8 - f/11. Nightime: 90% of the time f/2.8. Shutter Speed – It depends on if I use neutral density filters or not, and if it is a nighttime image. ISO – Daytime between ISO 64 and ISO 400. Nightime ISO 2500 to 6400 White Balance – Daytime I always work on Automatic. Nightime at 3500K. I especially like cold photos. Focus – Manual/Auto. With the Nikon 14-24 I always work in Hyperfocal Image Format – RAW/JPEG. RAW!!! Of course.

Q6. What programmes do you use for post processing? Tell us about your work flow. The work flow that I use us my own flow that I have been perfecting during the last 10 years. For this flow I use Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. The basis of my work flow is to obtain maximum quality and obtain the most spectaculars results. Q7. What do you do to polish your photographic skills? In the first place, one always must continue learning and secondly to see many photographs, visiting photographic websites and looking through quality magazines, such as yours. My personal opinion is that in order to obtain exceptional photographs, one must educate the eye, and the photographic eye is only trained by seeing many photos.

Q8. Which is your favorite shot? Why? That is a difficult question! I have several pictures in my head…but if I had to choose one in particular, it would be “Lavender Field and Milky Way”. This photograph has brought me several international awards, it has been on the cover of several magazines, and to date it is one of my best-sellers and amongst those that help to increase my sales figures.

Q9. The work of which photographer has influenced you most? I like to “drink” from many fountains. There are many good photographers and from each one I try to learn the type of techniques that they dominate. If I had to name several internationally, I would say: Marc Adamus, Daniel Kordan or Enrico Fossatti. In Spain I have a group of collaborators who are: Juan Pablo de Miguel, David Martín Castán, Carlos F. Turienzo, Sergio González, Dario Sastre, Arturo Solis, Iñigo Cía, Ivan Ferrero, Antonio Prado, Victor Gonzálo, Mario Rubio and of course my colleague and coworker in PhotoeXperience4U, Javier de la Torre Q10. What is the thing you wish you knew when you started taking pictures? When I started taking pictures many years ago, it was just a hobby and later I wanted to make a living in this profession. After 10 years of investing much time, effort and dedication, I am starting to see results.

Q11. You’ve been to many places. Tell us which one of your travels was the most memorable? Why? I have many good memories of each place I have visited. The Northern Lights of Iceland and Norway, the incredible landscapes in Canada, the monuments of Prague and Paris, the buildings and lights of New York. It would be so hard to decide, but, as my trip to China is the most recent, I would say the memory of “GUILLIN”, not only for its impressive scenery, but also for having had the opportunity to learn a little about its people and culture. Q12. The world is full of amazing places and photo opportunities. Tell us what countries or regions you would like to visit, and photograph, in the coming years? Next month I will travel to Munich (Germany) and to Linz (Austria) to receive the “Trierenberg Super Circuit” Gold Medal. These are my immediate plans, but for 2018 I am considering Japan, Dolomites, Baikal and one or two other interesting destinations. Q13. And the last question. What would you say about Capture Mania photography magazine? First of all, I would like to thank Capture Mania photography magazine for thinking of me for this issue. am Manvir Singh, 28 years of age, born in Punjab (India) and now living in Canada. I have started my photography career in 2010 when I got a point and shoot camera. I learnt about the basics of photography through that camera and then got an entry level DSLR. In the earlier days, I loved shooting macros but after a few years my interest in landscape photography brought a new level in my career. I travelled a lot and have a good collection of pictures depicting nature’s beauty in India and Canada. Currently, i am the mentor of Haida Filters in India. I got published in Natgeo,Smart Photography magazine in India and PhotoNews Magazine in Canada. I am really inspired by the work of Bobby Joshi, Ganesh Bagal and Manish Mamtani. Apart from these Indian artists, I really love the landscape work of Dangreen Wood and Micheal Shaneblum. I love the way these guys click landscape pictures. These days I am more into traveling and landscape photography. Now, I carry all my equipment with me especially the ones provided by Haida. I work a lot using ND and CPL filters to expand my knowledge in Day time Long exposure photography.

MARTIN MORGENWECK Location: Germany

y name is Martin Morgenweck, I´m 27 years old, a world traveler and landscape photographer from Germany. My passion for photography started before 3 years, shortly after my passion for travel and adventures began. The first holidays and trips through Europe I used only a simple digicam but after a while I bought a Sony A6000, felt in love with this camera and also with the photography. I visited many different countries as backpacker and by a car on a road trip and I have learned so many things, but one of the most importantly things that I have learned is to respect our earth and all the different cultures around this beautiful planet. I´m trying to live in a minimalist way, for example, this is why I am still take pictures with my APSC-camera and traveling and sleeping in a small simple car with my girlfriend, partly for several weeks. things, my path looks more like spending money on experiences. Which, of course, does not mean that I will never switching to a higher class camera like the Sony A7R..I spend a lot of my time to explore new perspectives of my local mountains called „Rhön“. It´s in the middle of Germany and Europe and is a beautiful mountain range which can impress with wide views and hilly landscapes. Last year, I made a world trip with my girlfriend, and as it is in life, things didn’t go as planned. In Dubai we got problems with the heat and the air humidity, in India somebody have stolen some of my valuables, including passport. In Thailand we had to travel back to Germany due to a disease. But all of these things just teached us. A world travel is an experience that I can recommend on everyone, I don’t regret a second. All the experiences, great people and breathtaking landscapes confirm me to continue this way to keep up with new moments for me. Best Greets Martin.

y Name is Sigal Cohen. I was born and raised in Israel. I work as a commercial lawyer and raise my three girls in a small town in the center of Israel. Since I remember myself, I have always liked to see the world through the lens of my camera. About 3 years ago, I decided to take this old hobby of mine one step forward and to make it more professional. Since then, photography has become a way of life for me. started with photography in 2014, searching for a hobby I could enjoy together with my daughter. I learned from books explaining photography in small projects and soon I got addicted. ALESSANDRO RADICE Location: Italy

was born in 1994 and I’m an Italian photographer living in Monza, Italy. I started making photos when I was young thanks to my father, who taught me techniques and composition. Then I studied photography in Milan at “IIF Photography Accademy” in which I learnt software retouching. Now I’m using a Nikon D800 and Lightroom with Photoshop as retouching softwares; I’m happy to learn new photography and retouching techniques by looking at other photographers. I’m a fan of colorful and dramatic photos and I usually take shots of landscapes, architecture and interior design. My greatest passion is travelling around the world with my girlfriend: I like to discover new places and cultures and taking photos of those amazing places. I also like all kind of sports, first of all Ice-Hockey. Photography is for me a passion first, but I’m trying to make it a job also, working as interior design photographer.
