T
ravel has been the ultimate human drive since time immemorial. 2000 years ago and now, the thing young people crave for is one and the same - to go places, see the world, live a life of adventure. In this sense, travel photography is an extension of that same drive. To go places, see the world and ultimately show your experience to the rest of the world.
Travel photographers are strange creatures - they often go off the beaten track, hike for hours in the wilderness, go and live with indigenous tribes for months, get up first, go to bed last and often miss meals. All that, only to get a single shot showing the true, unaltered spirit of the place.

At some point of our career, we all try our hand at travel photography: be it documenting the family vacation, or just heading off to shoot at a local festival. Few people keep on doing that as a full-time job, though, because travel photography requires dedication, determination and lots of knowledge about whatever you can think of - from culture, ethnography and anthropology to engineering and geology. It all depends on the place and subject. We are all travelers at heart, no matter we acknowledge it or not. That’s one of the reasons why travel photography is so popular. When was the last time you looked at a travel image and didn’t think ‘wow, I want to be there and see it for myself ’?

IVAN FERRERO
I
am an amateur photographer who lives in Toledo (Spain). I´m passionate about photography in all its forms, focused on the urban and rural landscape and fascinated by both day and night. I have always loved photography, but it was a trip to London city which allowed me to fully dedicate myself to photography… those days changed my life….and since then, this hobby has already become a way of life and covers almost all the free time I have. From that moment onwards, I have not stopped any day without trying to learn and improve my photographic technique and my digital workflow. In fact, I believe that both worlds are linked to each other and that a landscape photographer should know not only how to blend a good technique, but also a good post proccesing workflow in order to get the best results.

In relation with this, I´m proud of having met a lot of friends thanks to this hobby and having improved my photographic skills. My work has been awarded several times in big photo contests like “Trierenberg Super Circuit 2017” (Gold Medal. “Mountain”), 2nd Place in Panorama in “Fine Art Photo Awards 2017”, Gold and Silver medals in “Epson Pano awards 2016” and Third Place in “International Photo Awards 2016 (IPA)” between other FIAP and CEF awards in other contests. Q1. What kind of gear do you use? As other passionate photographers, I have had a lot of cameras... too many, perhaps!!! Olympus M4/3, Fuji X, Canon, Nikon... but nowadays I´m working with: Camera body – Sony A7R(I) and a Sony a7 as backup body. Lens – Sony Zeiss 16-35 F4, Sony Zeiss 55mm 1.8, Sony Zeiss 70-200 f4 and three Samyang lenses (12mm 2.8, 20mm 1.8 and 135mm f2). Tripod – Vanguard 263 Alta and the old Manfrotto 053B. Sirui K30 head and a sunnway levelling base. Filters – Nisi equipment. 100mm system. V5 Pro holder + CPl, and Nisi filters 6 an 10 stops. I´m also Beginning to test NISI natural night filter. Flash – Manual flashes. Two Yongnuo 560 Ex IV and a Yongnuo TX remote controller. Camera bag – Lowepro 400W
Mention others, if any.: Cold and warm lanterns for some night shots. Head lights, remote triggers, cleaning towels...too much things inside the bag!!! Q2. Which is your favorite lens? Why? I don´t really have a favorite lens... For my “family shots” I use zeiss 55 mm and 135mm f2 samyang (incredible manual lens) but for landscape I wouldn´t be able to live without a good wide angle zoom. In the sony a7R I use the 16-35f4 but for me, the best of all wide angle lenses I have ever tested was the tamron 15-30mm 2,8 that I enjoyed in my Nikon FX...but It was a very heavy set that also required large expensive filters. Q3. When you go travelling, what do you put in the bag? Why? As a hobbyist photographer, I can´t travel as much as I would like to do, but of course for my landscape work I always take with me my A7R and the backup body. Of course I always carry the wide angle zoom (16-35) and 70-200 f4. I prefer f4 telezoom, as it´s lighter and for landscape you really don´t need the heavy 2.8. With this two lenses I cover 90% of my necessities. Sometimes, If I really know that I won´t need a long tele, I just carry the gorgeous 55mm 1.8 (and with the a7R 36mpx I can crop later if I need). Something I like to do are CAPTURE MANIA | PHOTOGRAPHY MAGAZINE | www.capturemania.com

vertical panoramas with the A7r and 55mm 1.8...the quality is simply outstanding and I can also “extract” different pictures from that panorama. If I take night shots (I usually do) I also include a fast wide angle prime like samyang 12mm f 2.8 or 20mm 1.8; both of them excellent for nightscapes. If I have to choose one of them... It would be the 20m 1.8...sometimes it´s a bit long, but its not a problem...vertical panorama and you have it :) I always take 6 and 10 stops filters and the circular polarizer. I don´t use NDG or inverse filters...just full ND´s in order to take several exposures that later I can easily blend in PS And I can´t forget... two chargers, spare batteries, cleaning towels, tools for the head/tripod, remote shutter and ...my cellular... which Is absolutely vital for me (GPS, off line maps and photo apps).
VIGILANTE NOCTURNO © Ivan Ferrero capture mania.com
Q4. You probably have a lot of gadgets. Is there something you wish you haven’t bought? Why? If I look to the past...I wish I haven´t had too many cameras...As you begin to improve your photographic and post processing skills, you realize that we care too much about equipment... But for me, the “gadget” I have never really used is the pano head...It´s big and heavy to carry... So I always leave it at home, and for my panoramas I just use a levelling base and the L bracket arca plate.
TERRENAL PARADISE © Ivan Ferrero capture mania.com
Q5. What are your camera settings when on location? I always work in full manual at the minimum ISO I can select. Of course, at night or when it´s a rainy day, or when you are in a dark place and need to reach a “minimum speed”...you have to increase base ISO. Shutter Speed – It depends on the picture you are going to take, CAPTURE MANIA | PHOTOGRAPHY MAGAZINE | www.capturemania.com

but for example if I´m on a river, a waterfall, or a beach...I don´t like taking very long exposures...and I always look for “textures” on the water so I move around 1/5, 1/15 etc... (it depends of the speed of the water). Aperture – For landscape work, It´s very common to use F8-10... If want a beautiful sunstar, I usually made a shot with a very narrow aperture (f18-20) and for night shots I usually choose f2 - f 2.8 White Balance – At daylight I leave it at “auto” (RAW always). At night I manually choose a cold balance (3500... more or less). Focus – Manual/Auto. At daylight I use autofocus but at night, I prefer manual focus. Image Format – RAW/JPEG. Always RAW!!! Even for my family shots Q6. What programmes do you use for post processing? Tell us about your workflow. My personal workflow is 95% made in PS, I usually do basic adjustments in camera raw plugin and continue the post processing in PS. Once in photoshop I make an intensive use of luminosity masks (TKv5, and Raya pro pannels) and work the light and the mood of the image. I also like to work with color effex plugin. For panos my favorite program is PtGui. My style is also a bit “dark” I like to work the shadows of the image and I usually look for that dark mood. I recognize I like very much the “magenta and dark buwewish” Q7. What do you do to polish your photographic skills? I think that a photographer can´t forget that you always must “study” you can´t stop trying to improve your photographic skills, there is always something you could do better...I have always said that if one day you sit on your chair and think… “I´m a master, I Know everything I need” that day you will be “photographically dead”. If you ever think you are a “master” it´s enough to have a look to online galleries, magazines etc...just to realize that there are thousands of photographers better than you. If I think in a landscape photographer, the best thing you can do…the best investment is ...Travelling! it´s the best way to achieve good photographs ... But when I´m at house I´m, most of the time, reading photography books, buying and watching video tutorials of many photographers etc... In addition I´m always trying to learn different techniques, that´s why I like daylight landscape, but also nightscapes in which frequently you have to work with cold or warm lanters, street photography, architecture, black and white…etc.

Q8. Which is your favorite shot? Why? Very difficult question!!! I don´t have an answer to that...but perhaps If I have to choose one picture...It wouldn´t be one of my best...but I have a special feeling with an old photograph that meant a lot for me and marked a turning point. It was also the first time I had a picture featured in a magazine...and that was something I will never forget https://1x.com/photo/1047204/all:user:583999 Q9. The work of which photographer has influenced you most? It would be a never ending list!!!! works I deeply admire and inspire me. As a landscape photographer my preferences are American photographers like Ted Gore, Marc Adamus, Ryan Dyar, Alex Noriega, Ryan Buchanan; Italian photographers like Enrico Fossati, Massimo Coizzi, Gianluca Podesta, Nicola Pirondini, “Mythlands team”.... and others like Daniel Kordan, Max Rive, Nicholas Roemmel or Ole Henrik S. Luckily, In Spain we have an incredible group of absolutely talented photographers which we can be proud of...My main influence probably comes from Juan Pablo de Miguel, Jesús Mª García, Javier de la Torre and David Martín Castan, but I can´t forget others like Carlos Turienzo, Miguel Ángel Martin Campos, Íñigo Cía, Raúl Podadera, César Vega, Darío Cuesta… Q10. What is the thing you wish you knew when you started taking pictures? I didn´t know at all that this hobby was going to take me so much time!!! In fact, I think that photography occupies almost all the spare time I have. I wish I had known, from the very beginning, that there isn´t a perfect camera/lens and that you must train your skills and your eyes instead of losing too much time comparing photographic material… Of course… I can´t forget I would have never imagCAPTURE MANIA | PHOTOGRAPHY MAGAZINE | www.capturemania.com

ined it was going to be such an expensive hobby Q11. You’ve been to many places. Tell us which one of your travels was the most memorable? Why? Well, I have travelled a lot along my life...but most of those trips were done before photography was a serious hobby...so I am “obliged” to come back to some of that places :) I remember a 18 days route in Peru like an incredible experience that I wouldn´t hesitate to repeat with a pure photographical mind. And...I am a USA lover...I would like to come back soon :) Q12. The world is full of amazing places and photo opportunities. Tell us what countries or regions you would like to visit, and photograph, in the coming years? wowww....another never ending list!!!! I would like to visit several national parks in The USA, The Rocky Mountains in Canada, Greenland...and Dolomiti, a Germany-Austria route, Scotland, some regions in France, coming back to the north of Spain…too many places to describe here!! Q13. And the last question. What would you say about Capture Mania photography magazine? Well...I must say a big thank you for counting on me in a new issue. It´s a great pleasure to be again on this fantastic magazine; a magazine which day to day increases in quality and where a lot of incredible photographers have been featured. It´s great honor for me to be here. Thank you very much.

I have been traveling since 2009, met lot of People and Traveler during my Journey and got realized that TRAVELING for reason is the Best way to travel, Everyone got his reason to travel around the World. I got mine back in 2010 when I lost my Dad, I just wanted to travel to forgive myself and get rid of the Pain but with the passage of time the Pain had changed into Experiences and Experiences into Stories and Stories into Inspiration and Education for the other Travelers like me. Now I travel so that I can bring stories, Inspiration and Education to the others through my Photography. I had started My World Expedition back in 2014 after visiting Thailand, France and Spain, I had decided to continue this Adventure till I could, Travel more and more to see the beauty of the world, capture it, frame it but moreover get inspired and inspire others also for Traveling

This whole Expedition was based on a theme so that I could inspire myself through the meets and others through the stories and Photos that I brought it. First two nights of my journey was bit hard because of new place and bit nervous of traveling solo in strange country but with the passage of time this fear had faded out when I met other travelers like me with just a bag on their shoulders. Yangon is very charming for street food and street life I spent most of my time on it to explore the local culture and street life of the Capital.

BAGAN- After Yangon I took the overnight bus to Bagan, The most famous destination in Myanmar, I believe now once in the life everyone should visit this place for its Beauty, charm, serenity and pure sense of the place. This city would never disappoint anyone. City entry ticket cost 20$ valid for 3 days which was valid for 3 days. I was excited about this place as I had read and searched a lot before coming here, it’s a paradise for the photographers to click the beauty, nature culture, people and sunrise and sunset at all one place. I took me a little while to find out the best places to get the great pictures of the place in its real and pure sense, after talking to locals and other tourist I figured it out that for the good shoots I had to go far and new places not to the regular ones which were flooded all the time by the tourists. The best way to Discover the city and its beauty, get the E-Bikes and lost you in the Heart of the City. 3 days of riding and less sleep and eating I got what I wanted from this place, I Captured BAGAN and its Beauty for forever in my heart and Camera.

Mandalay- I opted for this city for a reason into my Itinerary, Honestly speaking I never planned my visit Mandalay initially as it was just a big city with a palace, but I recommend it definitely. The thing that brought me to Mandalay was not the city itself but one of the very rare cave temple (Datdawtaung Cave), 40kms from Mandalay. It’s a hidden temple in Myanmar from the tourist, even locals hardly know about it. I got to know about it through the Blog of one tourist, she had visited it last year and wrote a blog about it with the photos that’s the only information was available on the Internet for that temple. So I decided to make a visit to that temple and capture it and promote it through by Blog for the next future tourist so that Traveler coming to Mandalay would hear more about the place and its beauty and visit it too. How can I forget to mention about my visit to the U-BAIN Bridge- the longest wooden Bridge in the world, ended up my day with the Beautiful sunset that’s all I wanted from Mandalay. Inle-Lake (Nyaung Shwe)The second largest lake in Myanmar. I booked my ticket from Mandalay to Inle lake, most beautiful road trip I had done in Myanmar, I took the Shared taxi over the bus which dropped me

till to my Hotel so it was easier for me. The Journey started in the morning I had to share my taxi with group of Monks that had surprised me a bit but I got it very soon that I was in Buddhist Country. I loved the Journey it was full of slides up and down as we were heading towards hills and scenery was awesome, landscapes were really beautiful the best road trip that I had experienced in Myanmar. After reaching to Inle lake I just checked in to my hotel and took a short walk to stretch myself from that long drive which had almost paralyzed my legs. The town was very small but interesting with lots of travelers from all over the world; most of them reach to the town by trekking from Kalaw then take the ferry to the Town. The best thing to do in the town was to visit the lake and the floating villages around the lake where people lived and how they survived over the water, it was different experience for me and very cultural and traditional at the same time. I booked my shared boat ride with other travelers and we got the guide for the day to show us around the lake and the villages and talk about the places as well. The weather was not in our favor so hard to get the Sunrise photos, which I expected a lot with the fishermen on the lake. We spent the whole day to explore daily life, markets and temples as well. It was great experience to visit all these floating villages and understand their lives and conditions as well. After that long and two weeks trip I had to came back to Yangon to take my flight for my next Adventure and next destination CAMBODIA‌ I would like to thank to all the free souls I met during my journey, it was the greatest experience of my life and travel solo, click stories and places and people and get to know about me more and more about the world at the same time.

Since the time he started working with his first camera, a Canon AE-1 Program to his current gear Canon EOS 5D Mark III, he has explored the myriad images that Indian villages have to offer. Hailing from a village himself, his eyes are drawn towards those elements that he can identify with, that are hidden from a city dweller. He has compiled a few of those elements that he wants to share with you. Brochures of many photography exhibitions laying on the road post an exhibition triggered an interesting thought in him. He began collecting them for posterity from 2001 & has painstakingly built his collection to over 10,000 brochures from all parts of the world now. YASIR MEHMOOD Although I am an Interior Designer by profession my real passion is photography in general but Nature, Travel and Wild photography in particu¬lar. To me photography is synonymous with oxygen, as I have to make a few clicks of camera every day to keep my spirit satiated and healthy. For me photography is not just a hobby, rather for him it is a tool of insight into na¬ture. i specializes in insect photography, where with I gift of seeing nature differently, i sees insects as objects of beauty, which are as beautiful as any other ele¬ment of nature and worthy of being photographed. This passion does not only make to see things differently, but it is a means of introspection for me as well. With every angle, every frame and with every shutter of the lens, it is actually an aspect of my personality and the gift i born with; that unravels to me. It might seem a cliché, © Yasir Mehmood capture mania.com

BISTRA STOIMENOVA
I
t all started in 2009 when I got my first digital camera as a present. From that moment on I started seeing the world through the lens (mostly). It took years to self-teach myself (because it took time for me to realize that photography was not just a hobby, but a way of life) with books and a lot of crap pictures. I’ve heard most of the insulting comments people can come up with during these years - from being a stupid wench/bimbo who’d better keep of the camera equipment to being unoriginal and so on and so forth. That motivated me to prove all those people wrong. Come to think of it, if they hadn’t been that harsh at the beginning, I wouldn’t be a photographer at all right now. If you didn’t give up in the beginning - you probably wonder ‘Who are you?’ OK, I am a female born in 1992 native to and living in Bulgaria. Apart from being a photographer, I have a degree in English Philology (that means © Bistra Stoimenova capture mania.com

- English and American studies or in plain language - English and American language culture and a hell a lot more of things you don’t care about) and I’m currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Translation AND another Bachelor’s degree in Cultural Studies. My main areas of photographic interest are – travel, landscape, nature, macro and food photography but that doesn’t end the list. I can shoot anything – if given the opportunity. Photography has been a passion for me for the past 7 years and the more I shoot, the more I want to keep on doing it. I just love showing the world as I see it through the lens to others. That is my way of creating something, well, sort of.
