SURSUR FISHERFOLKS RECEIVE LIVELIHOOD ASSISTANCE

Some 78 fishermen from the two coastal barangays of Adlay, and Dahican formally received 40 units of the modified Fish Aggregating Devices (FADs) or locally known as “Payao” during the project’s turn-over and acceptance ceremony held at Adlay Production Center, Adlay, Carrascal, Surigao del Sur recently. The beneficiaries are members of the Adlay Fisherfolks Association (AFA) and Grupong Mananagat nan Adlay (GMA) of Barangay Adlay, and the Dahican Fishermen Association (DFA) and Dahican Agri-Fishery Integrated Association (DAGFINTEGRAS) of Barangay Dahican, all in Carrascal town.

The provision of Modified Fish Aggregating Devices Project was made possible thru the initiative of the local government unit of Carrascal (LGUCarrascal) in partnership with CTP Construction and Mining Corporation who funded the project thru its Social Development and Management Program (SDMP) 2021, with the Municipal Agriculture Office on technical assistance.

The project is part of the LGU’s efforts in helping the marginalized sectors gain access to sustainable livelihood undertakings where they can earn enough income for their respective households. Each organization received 10 units of FADs which will be installed/ deployed in strategically located fishing grounds identified by the organization. The beneficiaries from the two coastal barangays will be using the deployed ‘payaos’ in their respective locations and are expected to benefit from the project. (LGU-Carrascal/PIASurigao del Sur)
