Chairman’s Bit The weather has changed and we are coming into the ‘motoring’ season! By the time you read this we will have already enjoyed some interesting events with the St George’s Day Run and lunch almost upon us. There are also lots of other events to look forward to and, remember, you should book early to avoid disappointment.

Chairman Chris Ball

For some of you that don’t know, I must report the sad passing of our President, Eric Barrass. I did send a letter of condolence on behalf of the section to the family via the

Hunt House and there is also a Book of Remembrance at HQ, which can be signed by all members. It will also be available for signing at the Annual Rally and will, eventually, be passed to Eric’s family. A Memorial Service is being organised and all members of the Club will be notified of the date and venue should they wish to attend. Another piece of sad news is that Sir James Cayser, the President of the Scottish Section, died in early February. Those of you who attended the Scottish Rally in 2007 will remember him when he kindly invited us to his beautiful castle to see his amazing collection of cars. Sir James is famous for saying that one should never buy a Rolls-Royce because it costs far too much money to maintain! I did write a letter of condolence on behalf of the section to the Chairman of the Scottish section. The New Members visit to the Hunt House went very well and a lot of members brought their Club cars. A big thank you to Jim Fleming, our Chairman for his introduction to the Club and to Philip Hall who conducted a whirlwind tour of the Hunt House. The day was rounded off by a lunch at a local pub and I am encouraged by the fact that some new members have already booked for future events. Linda and I recently attended the Annual Conference and the AGM and both events went well. I was pleased that Mark and Kay Warnock and Barry and Ruth Gallafent were able to join us. You can read more about the weekend in the July PP. After the official business of the AGM on the Sunday afternoon, we were Paulerspury Flyer - April 2012

privileged to be present when Jim Fleming presented Clive Green with the Le Touquet Cup. This trophy is presented to the member who has done the most for the Club throughout the year and, as many of you know, Clive is doing invaluable work on the recording and storing of the archives. In addition, he was also presented with his 50-Year Membership Badge and I am sure you all join me in congratulating him on this magnificent achievement.

Clive and Enid with the Le Touquet Trophy

Please don’t forget the Annual Rally at Rockingham. The usual Paulerspury pre-lunch tailgate party will take place from 12 noon at Steven and Mia Murray’s beautiful Silver Wraith (Reg LDA 604) in Section 11. Just follow the noise! And to those members, who are entering their cars in the various competitions, good luck to you all.

A Message from the Editor In the PP we include write ups on where we have been and what we have been up to but still other articles of interest are always welcome, so do let me have them. Email or snail mail, I really don’t mind. I am happy to scan photographs for you and type up hand written reports if you do not have a word processing facility. Email your articles and photographs to editor@rrecpaulerspury.org.uk or pop them in the post to me at my address on page 6. Some other exciting media developments have happened within our section since the January PP. We now have a new section website created by Kathy Martin and this can be accessed either by clicking on the link on the main club website or by going directly to www.rrecpaulerspury.org.uk. We are also now on Facebook! Those of you familiar with Facebook can locate us at ‘RREC Paulerspury Section’ or on the internet at www.facebook.com/ rrec.paulerspury.section.

Forthcoming Events Sunday 13th May 2012 Visit to Studio 434 David Morgan has arranged for us to visit Studio 434 in Potters Bar, Hertfordshire. Studio 434 is a collection of over 100 motor cars and includes some of the finest in the country. The vehicles are all privately owned by the collection and many of them have been, and indeed are, made available for film and television work. From Ghostbusters to Bullitt, there will be something you recognise here. The facility also provides a home for many cherished vehicles belonging to individual private owners, where they are maintained in an ideal environment for each vehicle type, and remain cared for and ready for use at any time. After the tour, a three course lunch has been arranged for us at the Brookmans Park Golf Club which is just a short drive away.

Saturday 2nd June 2012 St Leonards Village Fete at the Village Hall 2-5pm. (HP23 6NW) BBQ afterwards at Graham and Julia’s. (HP23 6NG) For more details contact Graham and Julia on 01494 758228

15th - 17th June 2012 Annual Rally and Concours Being held once again at Rockingham Castle, this truly is the event of the year. The annual rally and concours brings together Club members and their cars from all over Europe and many, from much further afield. Never will you see so many Rolls-Royce and Bentley motor cars in the same place at one time. Our section hosts a pre-lunch ‘tailgate party’, this year it will be at the rear of Steven and Mia Murray’s beautiful, award winning, Silver Wraith. All members of the Paulerspury Section are welcome to attend. Such is the popularity of this gathering, we are often infiltrated by members from other sections! Whether you are new to the Club, or just the section, do come along and meet up with us and share in what is always, a most enjoyable day. Paulerspury Flyer - April 2012

Annual Picnic at Wimpole Hall, Nr Royston Sunday, 19 August 2012 This year the section is going to visit Wimpole Hall for its annual picnic and the National Trust has kindly given its permission for us to park our cars outside the Hall and partake of our picnic. There are many attractions to see at Wimpole and although the cost of the day has not been set as yet, an indication of how many members would like to go is required. All applicants will be advised of the cost and further details of the day by email or post. Please return your form a.s.a.p. to David Davis.

Sunday 26th August 2012 Little Gransden Air Show & Classic Car Show This really is a superb day out for all the family. There will be 250 classic cars on display and plethora of classic commercial vehicles, military vehicles and motor cycles. The flying display starts at 1.00 p.m and runs ‘non-stop’ until 5.00p.m. The display comprises a huge variety of vintage and veteran aircraft types and is truly amazing. Fly pasts are arranged by such as the Battle of Britain Flight Lancaster and a Canadian Air Force C130. You will see wing walkers, gliders performing aerobatics and maybe, even the Red Baron! Food and drink is available on site but we will have a designated area for the Paulerspury Section vehicles so it is an ideal picnic opportunity. Space for us is limited to aprroximately 10 vehicles so get your form back to us a.s.a.p. and don’t miss out. We NEED YOUR FORM, as all vehicles must be registered individually. The cost is just £10.00 per vehicle exhibiting including all occupants which must make this the cheapest day out of the year. Ordinarily, just for show visitors, the entrance fee is £15.00 per head. Even at that price, it is great value for money. Fill your car with five people and you will be saving £65! Ruth and I look forward to you joining us. Prepare to be amazed. 8

Friday 21st September 2012 for 3 - 7 Nights Somerset House Party By popular request we are arranging a return to Porlock. For those that did not come last time it is a weekend or longer if you wish, with a difference. The house sits in a stunning position overlooking Porlock Bay which nestles at the foot of Exmoor. We have the complete run of the house and the grounds. It is not an hotel but has been and so the bedrooms are all en suite. Bed linen and towels are included. We will arrange for breakfast and dinner each evening and ALL drinks will be included, including wine and at least one Champagne reception. You will, however, have to make your own beds, tea and coffee; there are no staff so you will all be given designated tasks! Not too onerous however. The approximate cost for three nights dinner, bed and breakfast will be ÂŁ750 per couple all inclusive. The cost for additional nights will depend on the number of people wishing to stay for longer. An initial deposit of ÂŁ100.00 will be required and please state how many nights you would like to stay. The house has 13 double bedrooms and a couple of single rooms so numbers will be limited. This event is already well supported but we do still have some rooms available. If you are keen to join us, do get your form in a.s.a.p. Please see booking slip enclosed with this edition of the Flyer.
