We will provide materials at these sessions (and tea!), however, feel free to bring along projects of your own. Welfare ST UDENT LED SERV ICES Student Led Services are incredible groups of enthusiastic, passionate and committed individuals dedicated to improving the experience and welfare of Cardiff University students. They are constantly looking for upstanding members of the student community to assume leadership and committee roles, to build on their success and ensure that all our students are supported. More information can also be found by heading to cardiffstudents.com/ SLS. HOUSING ACTION Housing Action stands up for students living in sub-standing housing conditions. They empower students with knowledge to protect themselves from rogue landlords and poor letting agency practice. Housing Action organise campaigns to raise awareness of housing rights and last year spoke with thousands of students, helping them with their housing problems. NIGHTLINE University is a testing time for everyone, but for some it can be especially tough. Nightline is there to listen when students need to anonymously talk through their circumstances with someone that cares, no matter what time of the night. These volunteers stay over in a secret location, and are on call all through the night. TALK IT OUT Talk it out is an active listening service for students to drop-in and discuss any difficulties that they may be having or for company if they are feeling lonely or isolated. More and more young people feel lonely and want someone to talk to, and Talk it Out is here to help.
MIND YOUR HEAD Mind your Head is a very passionate group of students who want to reduce the stigma of talking about mental health and provide opportunities to support the mental wellbeing of students whilst at Cardiff. In the past they have hosted wellbeing cafes, lead group walks and even set up a school outreach project.
BUDDY SCHEME The Buddy Scheme works hard to ensure all new students have someone to help them settle into life at Cardiff. They want everyone to feel comfortable and confident to try new things and have new experiences. There is a lot of work that go into supporting buddies and we need you to take a leading role with this important welfare service!
STUDENT MINDS Student Minds is a very proactive group that hosts a peer-support meeting twice a week to help students who are managing eating and other mental health difficulties. They are constantly looking for more people to take a leading role in ensuring a supportive environment for students. STASH Student Alcohol and Substance Help is a brand new SLS, established in 2019 to campaign to reduce the harm experienced by students engaging with drugs and alcohol. STASH collaborate with Public Health Wales and WEDINOS to empower students with information and tools to help them stay safe. EAT WELL Eat Well is a group designed to educate students on how to eat better for less than you might think. The service aims to provide students with top shopping and cooking tips, and share information on the importance of nutrition. You are what you eat! SHAG SHAG, the Sexual Health Awareness Group, are here to champion better sexual health awareness and provision for you at Cardiff. As well as providing free condoms and contraception for students, they also operate a weekly C-Card Scheme, annual STI Clinic in the Students’ Union and campaign for improvements in this important area of student welfare.
“
