Ways to give 1) Pecuniary bequest: this is a fixed sum of money, but the amount you decide to leave can be devalued by inflation.
A lasting legacy
2) Specific bequest – a particular item, for example a book collection, a painting or a property that may then be sold and the proceeds go to the beneficiary. 3) Residuary bequest – once all bequests to family, friends, etc have been made and debts and tax have been paid, the remainder of your estate may then be divided percentagewise between your chosen beneficiaries.
The next steps If you’ve not yet made a Will, please consider seeking advice from a solicitor, legal advisor or Will writer. This is not time-consuming or expensive. A clear and well-drafted Will should accurately reflect your wishes and minimise the amount of inheritance tax payable. If your Will is already written and you wish to add to it, this is done by inserting a Codicil – an addition to the existing Will containing supplementary instructions. This needs to be drawn up and witnessed. Again, it is best to seek professional advice. If you would like to discuss how a gift in your Will might help CARE, please phone 020 7233 0455 and speak informally and confidentially to Russell Hornzee.

supporting loved ones, your local church and the ministries that are close to your heart
Giving to others in my will Lyndon Bowring
We are deeply grateful for every person who faithfully supports the ministry of CARE. Although the regular gifts we receive from individuals provide the major source of our income, from time to time an unexpected gift arrives ‘out of the blue’. So often this comes at just the right time to meet a particular challenge we are facing, the result of a person’s generous decision, maybe many years earlier, to include a gift to CARE in their Will. We pray that God will continue to help us to make a real Christian difference, recognising that there is every reason to believe that our grandchildren and great-grandchildren will need CARE more than we did. That is why we are seriously planning for the future so that those following us can continue this vital work.
•
Once you have provided for loved ones and friends, leaving gifts to your local church and other ministries you have supported during your lifetime is a wonderful way to ensure these are helped when you are in heaven.
•
Gifts to registered charities made in a Will are exempt from inheritance tax – which from April 2012 will be cut by 10 per cent if you leave one tenth or more of your estate to charity!
Giving to CARE
•
CARE is highly regarded as an effective Christian voice in the UK Parliaments and Assemblies, at the EU and the UN. CARE is involved in many crucial moral and ethical issues of concern to Christians, working with Christian MPs and other parliamentarians to protect the most vulnerable people in our society, including the unborn child, adults with learning disabilities, trafficked men, women and children, and those at the very end of life.
•
We uphold marriage and family life and speak out for the sanctity of life, social justice and human dignity.
•
CARE produces resources to inspire and equip people to pray effectively and be actively engaged with the political process, being light and salt locally and nationally.
•
CARE has produced important research, and developed significant educational initiatives. One of these is CARE’s Leadership Programme, preparing Christian graduates to become leaders of tomorrow.
Naturally we hope that many years will pass before any of our Wills are enacted, but any legacy you leave to CARE will be deeply appreciated, especially by those entrusted with this ministry in the years to come. May you know God’s blessings, wisdom and guidance in all that you seek to do for Him. May He help us to leave lasting legacies of many kinds for the sake of future generations. Yours in His grace
