Pray for CARE

Page 1

During 2021 CARE is especially celebrating God’s faithfulness as we mark the 50th anniversary of the Nationwide Festival of Light on 21 September 1971 when our ministry began. We appreciate all your support ‒ and especially value your prayers for CARE. Thank you!

This leaflet is part of CARE’s range of prayer resources. These are all freely available from the address below or at care.org.uk

SUN

Lord, please have mercy on our land, where so many reject Your ways. Please equip CARE to serve Parliamentarians and others who seek to protect human life, encourage marriage and families and promote justice for those who are oppressed - the ‘quartet of the vulnerable’. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

‘Turn away from evil and do good. Search for peace, and work to maintain it. The eyes of the LORD watch over those who do right, and His ears are open to their prayers.’ 1 Peter 3:11,12 (NLT)

MON

LIFE God of life and compassion, please help CARE to prevent any change to the law which would allow abortion on demand, or assisted suicide for terminally ill people. Bless OPEN and other initiatives that support women and encourage those working in palliative and hospice care. In Christ’s name. AMEN.

‘Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.’ Proverbs 31:8,9 (NIV)

TUES

FAMILY Father, we pray for a greater recognition of evidence that shows families with married parents thrive best. Please watch over all families. May CARE succeed with measures to protect children online and anyone at risk from problem gambling and pornography addiction. In Jesus’ name. AMEN.

‘Father to the fatherless, defender of widows – this is God, whose dwelling is holy. God places the lonely in families; He sets the prisoners free and gives them joy.’ Psalm 68:5,6 (NLT)

WED

JUSTICE Merciful Lord, please help CARE to convince all UK governments to criminalise paying for sex and provide legal protection and support for modern slavery victims to rebuild their lives in safety. We pray too for freedom of speech and belief to be upheld. For Christ’s sake. AMEN.

‘The lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor ... to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners…’ Isaiah 61:1,2 (NIV)

THURS

RESOURCING THE CHURCH Holy Spirit, please equip CARE staff who network and speak in churches and at events. Help those producing CARE’s publications and other resources to continue to encourage and inform Christians, inspiring many to pray, act and speak out with grace and truth as the need arises. For Jesus’ sake. AMEN.

‘You are the light of the world … let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.’ Matthew 5:14-16 (ESV)

FRI

CARE LEADERSHIP PROGRAMME Lord, please envision and encourage the twelve Christian graduates participating in the Leadership Programme lectures each Friday, and in placements in Westminster and the Scottish Parliament. We ask You to direct their paths throughout this year and into future roles that You have prepared. In Christ’s name. AMEN.

‘Instruct the wise, and they will be even wiser. Teach the righteous, and they will learn even more. Fear of the LORD is the foundation of wisdom. Knowledge of the Holy One results in good judgment.’ Proverbs 9:9,10 (NLT)

SAT

CARE TEAM Lord, we pray for CARE’s leadership team, staff, and consultants in advocacy, administrative, creative, and ministry roles. Help each one to be diligent and effective, always asking You to guide them. Please bless all who support CARE through prayer, giving and action. In Christ’s name. AMEN.

‘May your deeds be shown to your servants, your splendour to their children. May the favour of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us.’ Psalm 90:16,17 (NIV)
