Connecting and communicating with children and families is both a privilege and a challenge. Here at Carey we take your education and development seriously and want to partner with you to equip you in your ministry context, knowing that your ministry will make a difference today and for generations to come. Carey offers a variety of programmes with the aim to prepare you to be a thoughtful, passionate and reflective leader for ministry and mission with children and families integrating head, heart and hand. Our programmes are intended to: • encourage all aspects of your ministry to be grounded in a biblical and theological framework • give you the best tools for making an impact in your community • equip you in children and family ministry with or without prior training • provide flexible modes of study that suit you.

Graduate Profile As a graduate of the programme you will: Understand ministry and mission for and with children and families in the church and community setting. Be a leader who is reflective, attentive, thoughtful and informed. Contextualise ministry to your setting while being biblically and theologically faithful to Christian kingdom values. Demonstrate an awareness of contemporary issues for New Zealand children and families. Participate as an imaginative servant who will embody redemptive Christian leadership in your community. Utilise the knowledge, understanding and skills that you have acquired to address challenges in church ministry and community contexts by bringing the resources of Christian faith, scripture and experience into engagement with contemporary realities.

I came into pastoral ministry with a fairly full kete of knowledge and experience, and the C&F courses have been absolutely invaluable in developing my understanding of ministry with children and families. I’ve been exposed to recent research, thought, perspectives and people that have impacted the way we partner in the faith journey with children and whānau in our own context. It’s a big commitment to study, but it’s also a smart investment with outcomes which people of all ages benefit from.”

Studying at Carey this year has been a wonderful experience. Unlike most other universities and programmes, the lecturers and staff are really approachable and easy to talk to! What I loved the most about my studies has been the interaction with fellow students. Whether it’s engaging through online forums or chatting with them during lunch breaks or after class. I loved learning from their different life experiences and expertise as well as bouncing different perspectives and ideas off them! All in all, it’s been a one of a kind experience and I wouldn’t trade it for anything!!”
