MA810
Special Topic: The Atonement and Practical Theology with special emphasis on Justice and Imprisonment Cource Description
This course first addresses the atonement and its implications in part by bringing current views of the atonement into conversation with the widespread western practice of incarceration. This conversation-aided by direct exposure to this context-exposes false and harmful views of the atonement and reinforces the dynamic and transformational nature of an orthodox view. These transformational dynamics are then traced through prophetic, protective, reconciling, and missional modes. The course ends up challenging its students to be agents of appropriate change, discerning and enacting the mission of God in the world, especially in relation to imprisonment.
