Carey’s whole curriculum is designed to help students to grow in their knowledge of God and equip them to serve God’s purposes in the world—in other words, to participate in the Mission of God. Some courses have a more obvious mission focus, but whatever you study in Bible, theology, culture, ministry, reflective contextual practice, etc. can contribute to that learning and equipping.

students who meet weekly (in person or by Zoom) to journey together in formation for mission participation, cultivating attentiveness to God, awareness of mission contexts and the ability to relate well interculturally. Students on Mission Track earn the additional qualification of a Carey (non-NZQA) Certificate or Diploma in Intercultural Practice. Carey encourages research relevant to mission, and there are opportunities for suitably qualified students to investigate

I did Mission Track in 2015, prior to moving to South Asia. It provided a good framework for figuring out what some of my own values, practices and theology might be upon arriving in a new country. While overseas I met my wife Lizzie. When we had the chance to spend 2018 back in New Zealand doing further study, we chose to do Mission Track together. In our context of life and mission Lizzie and I had experienced highs, lows and everything in between, and Mission Track enabled us to process much of this together while looking ahead to what we might do differently upon returning. If you are passionate about sharing the love of Jesus, enjoy mixing with people from other cultures, and want to better understand God’s mission in the world, then I really recommend joining Mission Track!”

Leadership in today’s globalised world requires a high degree of cultural intelligence (CQ). Regardless of the context, today’s minister needs to be interculturally competent. The team at Carey understand this well, developing contextually sensitive study programs that integrate theology with lived realities. Carey’s Mission Track is to be especially commended in this regard. They do a superb job helping students bridge cultural distances with the gospel in light of today’s global challenges.”

Distance Students Distance students are welcome on Mission Track. The one practical requirement is that you can arrange to join the Tuesday morning group meetings by Zoom. Zoom works fine for that weekly connection with the rest of the group, but most distance students

find that the relationships are deepened if they are able to come on-site occasionally (e.g. for a block course). It is also especially important for students studying on their own to find a good local mentor (we can help with that if necessary).

Mission Track has taught me how to read the Bible with a missional focus. Understanding culture, context and people in God’s Word has helped me walk and work with God in our rapidly changing world. My intention was to join Mission Track to revisit India again, two years later, my heart breaks for the mission context of Polynesia in Aotearoa. I am currently completing postgraduate studies with AUT in Violence and Trauma, where I can apply what I have learnt from Mission Track into my studies. O le ala i le pule o le tautua.”

Although the love of God and the truth of the gospel remain the same, the contexts in which God’s people are called to live out their faith and pray and work for the coming of God’s kingdom are constantly, and rapidly, changing. So formation for participation in what God is doing in this changing world is a continual and life-long process. That’s why I love Mission Track! The deep relationships that form as we journey together, the amazing insights gained from the experiences of others, and the opportunities in our diverse group to practice genuine intercultural relating help to form us for mission-shaped lives.”
