Ngā Pou Amorangi training opens a space for Christians to fully explore what it means to be Māori and Christian - and in the process of exploration, to prepare to serve confidently in Māori contexts and beyond.
HE HŌNORE KI TE ATUA - HONOUR TO GOD We believe God is calling Christians to new expressions of church that embody the good news of Jesus Christ in ways that will make Him more fully known. In Aotearoa New Zealand some of us, both Māori and nonMāori, are called to embody the gospel in humble service within whānau, hapū, iwi, hāhi and in other Māori and bicultural communities. Ngā Pou Amorangi is a Māori leadership initiative designed to equip Christians for this service. The training provides the place, time and support for akoranga (learners) to grow in confidence in te ao Māori. It also provides biblical, theological, ministry and mission expertise as ahorangi (lecturers), amorangi (ministry practitioners) and akoranga together explore how to express the gospel of Christ effectively within te ao Māori. He hōnore, he kororia ki te Atua.

There are also weekly hui run on Tuesday mornings throughout the Carey Semester. Attendance is voluntary for non diploma or degree students. * Students enrolled in a Carey NZQA Diploma or Degree programme may be able to credit the mentored learning component towards their qualification.
Wānanga begin on Friday evening and end on Sunday. Most will be held on Carey campus at Te Whare Oranga. One or two each year may be held on an iwi marae outside of Auckland.
If not already serving in a Māori context, Akoranga will be provided with opportunities to serve and to formally reflect on their experiences as part of their training.
one-to-one mentoring Akoranga will all be paired with Māori mentors. Every effort will be made to pair akoranga with mentors who have expertise that match learners' interests and calling in God.

Amorangi is the traditional Māori word for leader/priest. The saying refers to the priority of the spiritual in the affairs of everyday life. (Matt 6:33 reflects this concept)
