Oliver and Wyatt Sutter won first prize with their Lego entry at the Lougheed Fair, with multiple farm implements made entirely of Lego in what almost looked like a Combine Crunch, complete with stands of fans. Town of Killam finds and RCMP investigate fatal halts dangerous excavation collision north of Sedgewick Leslie Cholowsky Editor
The Town of Killam discovered a potentially hazardous situation last week when it was found that local youth had been playing in a dirt pile owned by the town, and had built a tunnel into the pile. The Town immediately knocked in the tunnel, and issued a warning to families in the community: “Parents please be aware that children have been seen digging this tunnel into the large dirt pile south of 45 Ave. “The Town has knocked in the tunnel, but please let your children know of the dangers involved in doing this.” The Town has installed warning tape and signage and will continue to closely monitor the area for any further activity.
On the morning of Saturday, August 10 at approximately 6:30 a.m. Killam RCMP was dispatched to a fatal motor vehicle collision. Members arrived on scene, approximately one mile north of Sedgewick on Range Road 124, and located a 49year-old resident of Leduc, Alberta, deceased. The cause of the collision is under investigation. A collision reconstructionist attended the scene and the Medical Examiner has ordered an autopsy. Next of kin notification has been completed by Edmonton Police Service.
Referrals to Flagstaff Victim Services have been made for the complainant and next of kin. Claims were made on social media on the weekend that incorrect information on the identity of the driver had been posted online, also potentially before police were able to notify next of kin. Killam Detachment reminds the public not to speculate regarding information about ongoing police investigations. Personal information is not released as the police make sure to respect those involved in sensitive investigations.
