EDITOR’S LETTER

It’s been a year since we launched CovetED Magazine and what a magnificent journey it has been! When I was asked to start this project, I could not imagine the success we would have after only one year and now, as I assume the position of editor in chief, I could not be more proud of CovetED. It was a year filled with travelling around the world, and quite simply, experiencing the best design has to offer. We were at the best Hotels, Events and even Fashion weeks, and fortunate to enter the exclusive world of the best interior designers, from Kelly Hoppen to Jean-Louis Deniot. We were in Asia, America and Europe, only to bring you the best news and collectible articles on the universe of Luxury & Design. Thank you for celebrating Design with us, most of you from the very beginning. This issue is the best one so far. With a new approach on graphic design and a diverse range of contents, we invite you to enter yet another journey with us as crossed France to meet Chef Robuchon in Bordeaux as well as other magnificent Chefs and Hoteliers,

Patrícia Pinho Editor in chief

and then heading to the United States to catch up with David Rockwell, Martyn Lawrence, and many others. and Germany in one turn of a page. On return to Europe towards the end of the journey, we proudly participated in our first January edition of Maison & Objet, Paris, one of most renowned Design Events in the world, where we got the chance to interview Top Designer Marcel Wanders and the emerging talent Diogo Carvalho. We also entered some of the most beautiful interior design projects of the moment, from Jorge Canete, Rue Monsieur Paris and Julia Danilova. Spending time with the industry’s best brought us the inspiration we share with you in this publication. Our mission for our second year of existence remains the same: to travel all around the world to bring you the best the world of Luxury & Design has to offer. As a group of designers ourselves, we find that our magazine’s curated selection of projects and pieces is continuously improving, as our search for inspiration also rises in quality. This is our goal: to celebrate design with the people we meet worldwide and of course, with you, our faithful reader. Thank you for this wonderful year. You were a part of it too! And we hope to continue growing our wonderful family. EDITOR IN CHIEF

MAISON&OBJECT PARIS, FRANCE

“In September 2017, François Bernard will take over the Inspirations Space to present a selection of objects by exhibiting brands as well as the Bookshop-Café that will present a space defined by soft tones of almond and Linden greens evoking a perfect garden-like setting. ”

The September edition of the esteemed furniture fair, Maison et Objet Paris is scheduled to happen from 8-12 in Paris Nord Villepinte. The theme selected for this edition is Comfort Zone, which resulted from the year-round collective work of members of the M&O Observatory. In September 2017, François Bernard will take over the Inspirations Space to present a selection of objects by exhibiting brands as well as the Bookshop-Café that will present a space defined by soft tones of almond and Linden greens evoking a perfect garden-like setting. It will also showcase a wide variety of sources that illustrate the theme. Furthermore, the Inspirations Books will demonstrate the theme from countless forward-looking perspectives, while the Conference Space will provide an opportunity to further explore the notion of Comfort with a five-day programme of debates on current related trends. The coordinator of the M&O Observatory and Editor-in-Chief of the inspirations book, Marie-Jo Malait, explained the essence of the theme, "To satisfy our yearning for rest and quiet, shapes become rounder, more enveloping. They wrap us up in a protective and comforting cocoon. Funnylooking cushions on legs replace chairs and provide the perfect place to sit and relax. Soft materials are everywhere and contribute to our well-being,” she continued by saying, “Both warm and casual,

UPCOMING EVENTS//

contemporary comfort meets comforting design. 100% feel good lifestyle.”This year, the Inspirations Space went through some modifications seeing that the organisers expressed the desire of opting for a more pragmatic approach in regards to the layout of the fair in order to optimise the ultimate visitor experience. It became a sort of insightful preamble bound to make the visitors’ journey more practical and easy. François Bernard devised a game comprised of an illustrated alphabetical exhibition around the notion of comfort, using exhibitors’ products. One of the highlights of this edition will be armchairs showcasing increasingly enveloping shapes, including the noteworthy MarieChristine Dorner’s Cover for Cinna or the stunning Nuvola 09 by Paola Navone for Gervasoni. Visitors can also count with a series of humorous design, while still not losing the concept of comfort, such as the AP Collection chair which is covered with dozens of stuffed animals. Softer lines have come to replace right angles regarding the main trends to be seen at the prestigious exhibition. Seating has taken on organic shapes and pod-inspired designs, just take, for example, the Beatnik chair by Donar that contradicts the linear furniture trend that has been seen as of recent years. The Inspirations Space will accurately translate the nature of Maison

et Objet by combining cutting-edge technology with artisanal elements, thus showing M&O’s sense of diversity and openness. To this date, Maison&Objet Paris is still regarded as an exceptional event that starts conversations and to research, offering the necessary material to reflect changes in taste, aesthetics, habits, which is quite telling about our past, present and future society.

YECLA FURNITURE FAIR YECLA, SPAIN

UPCOMING EVENTS//

The premier and most prestigious furniture fair in Spain, Feria Del Mueble Yecla is set to occur from the 25th to the 28th of September. Inmaculada Hernandez serves as the director of the successful event, which expects more than 4000 exhibitors from all the parts of the world, including France, the Czech Republic, Romania, Ukraine, United Kingdom, Mexico and Taiwan. For the past three years, the prominent fair has had as its protagonist the premium showcase Channel Contract. Celebrated for 56 years, Yecla is the oldest furniture fair organised in Spain that has never stopped being celebrated, and for a reason. The Traditional source of income of the municipality was wine and, due to a plague, a good part of the vines was destroyed, something that affected not only the farmers and winemakers but also the auxiliary industry. As a result, several carpenters and cabinet makers started making furniture and found out that the best way to achieve their goals was to commence a fair. Another delicate moment in the history of Yecla was the economic crisis which affected nearly everyone at the end of the last decade. In addition, there was also an increase of competition which compelled the organisers to find new ways of relaunching and renovating. From this was born the contract that changed everything and allowed the firm to steadily grow more and more each year. The furniture fair makes sure to establish a particularly close collaboration with prominent institutions, such as the Promotion of the Region of Murcia, which together they consolidate the bilateral meetings between international prescribers and exhibitors. The representatives of the fair assure that everything is executed perfectly in advance and that those who are meant to occupy the stands of the two exhibition areas, habitat and contract, have been confirmed. Year after year, the interest of furniture professionals, merchants and prescribers increases, making Yecla a worthy reference within the industry. In regards to parallel events, the “Interior Show Yecla” is a continuing event that focuses on showcasing the high-quality productions of its exhibitors, even after the daily closing of the main exhibition. To this end, an emblematic place of the city of Yecla is chosen and through a very special assembly, they create a show directed to the prescribers of the contract channel. Renowned for taking the meaning of design to a new dimension, the company BIMBAMBUM is responsible for the development of this activity which happens outdoors. Each season, Yecla allows exhibitors to innovate by creating the most avant-garde and high-quality designs. This has been one of the most positive factors for the fruition of the event. While the Habitat area remains a vital feature, the Channel contract has gained distinction within the event, becoming a focal point that is aimed at the corporate and institutional client whose exhibitors display outstanding projects. This is the reason why Yecla is perceived to be at the vanguard of design.

“Another delicate moment in the history of Yecla was the economic crisis which affected nearly everyone at the end of the last decade. In addition, there was also an increase of competition which compelled the organisers to find new ways of relaunching and renovating.”

LLANDRÓ

NEW YORK, USA

SHOWROOM//

“The modern interior design brand finds inspiration in different cultures around the world, resulting in pieces with bold colours and strong statements.” Most recently, the Portuguese high-end furniture brand BRABBU closed a new partnership with the Spanish porcelain brand Lladró, in New York City. The Spanish showroom, right in the heart of Manhattan, underwent a renovation and BRABBU was the obvious choice for a design inspired ambience. Located at 979 Third Ave., in Decoration & Design Building, BRABBU’s most iconic pieces are carefully displayed in beautiful sets. The modern interior design brand finds inspiration in different cultures around the world, resulting in pieces with bold colours and strong statements. In the showroom, one can find Bourbon Dining Chair blending perfectly together with a lively nature inspired wall covering. Going further in the exhibition, there is Hermes sofa breaking interior design boundaries with its beautiful lines and Maya Armchair, a unique design piece with sensual and delicate forms. Earlier this year, Lladró was the official sponsor of NYCxDesign Awards presenting The Guest, a platform for artists from different disciplines to collaborate with the brand. The Spanish producer of charming figurines has been growing worldwide since the nineties, when it first opened a store in Beverly Hills, California. Always in a constant transformation, Lladró keeps on improving itself in its new classics, featuring bright colours, original shapes and innovative textures. It is now easy to understand why the two brands combined forces to celebrate design.
